Yeah...

OH HELL NO.

Under 16's not allowed here. also, Worthless Useless non-customer people.

"Dad... Can I borrow your credit card to sign up for a $100 a year subscription to a virtual kinky porn simulator game? Yeah I know I'm only 12, but it runs on a smart phone!""

Let's not and say we did, hmm?

Yes. Any "doomed path" EEP and/or PBR relevance? Just asking.. 🙂

My own opinion (until it was limited to "G" regions) has been that "Mobile" will lead Second Life "away from doom".

We. Shall. See.

Attracting a fair share of Doom players would boost SL into mainstream, for sure. Why lead Second Life away from these?

I imagine those struggling right now are pretty upset. SL means a lot to a lot of people. They have friends, businesses, and in some cases they have jobs.

I bought myself a used laptop last year. (Theres always some gamerbro that needs the newest computer to brag about every year.) It's a couple years old now but decently powerful since it was designed for good graphics. It's a mid-range laptop today.

I didn't need to spend $2000 on a new computer to run SL.  If I hadn't upgraded to my new/used computer, I would be in the same boat as some of those posting here.

Go to your local used computer shop if you have one and see what they have.

Question is if the most care. Many of them spent and still spend a significant amount of money on SL, anyway. And now the company running the show steps up and shuts the door to them. "Go get a new computer and pay more". That´s not what I call a sane customer relationshiip. And such kind of relationships usually end in a divorce.

I admit, I took a real risk getting a new notebook for only $790 last year. But it said "gaming" and was part of the "Acer Nitro" line.  It worked out. And, $790 is a heckuva lot less than $2000.

So my point is, you can either get lucky, or be smart and choose wisely, or hope one day to afford whatever you want or need, or some combination.

Or, you can choose poorly, or with bad luck be stuck with something that doesn't work with Second Life.

And every possibility in-between.

All we can do is make recommendation, say "what worked for us".

Sounds more like an early alpha if it still has so little usability.  :(

What's worse is, it is not clear what the "end goal" is.

What WILL be the functionality when "released"?

No they're not choose a doomed path.

Yes, it's mean significant changes in my pipeline. I also, after 8 years upgraded my PC which made a huge difference. I'm switching entirely to PBR production now firestorm has updated and going forward will only use that material pipeline. Before I'd supply fall-back textures which was a load of extra work I can do without.

What is up with these doom and gloom, the sky is falling posts on forums lately? It's honestly kinda depressing.

Well, seems as if the plactic shine of the PBR glorified SL oceans prevented the oversaturated blue sky from falling down, due to the color shock.

I'm completely disgusted.

I have a four-month-old factory-built, custom-made Dell and two four-year-old Dells. NONE of them can run PBR!  They seem good enough to run Podcasts, stream videos, and even 3d modeling in Blender.  But is it not good enough to run Second Life? Really.

Before this upgrade, Firestorm was the BEST running viewer for SL in decades, even surpassing the official Second Life one!

After being a Second Life resident since 2008,. I'm simply out of luck and have to say goodbye to Second Life.  Because I'm not going to fork over another $2,000 just to run SL.

Thanks a lot Linden Labs is this how you treat your customer base? It's not a good way to run a business, you know.

In my case, a customer who has over the decades forked out thousands of dollars in your virtual world? I simply have to abandon the virtual life and world it took me over a decade to build, not to mention the countless friendships I formed there.

I'm sure I'm not the only one given the outcry I'm seeing in the official Second Life forums, Redditt and elsewhere.

The only ones that seem to be happy for this PBR seem to be content creators and SL merchants.

But haven't they seen how SL has become a virtual 'Dead Mall' since it's heyday back in 2012?  And it's about to get a whole lot emptier.

Good luck with your shops when there are no more avatars  around to buy your bright PBR shiny virtual wares.  When all that's left visiting them will be Weeboo Ghost bots and the occasional naked newbie Noobs. Having gotten lost on their way to the seedy Red-Light District of SL.

I've said my peace.

Goodbye Second Life and Liden Labs, and thanks a lot for abandoning loyal customers.

I'm happy about PBR..

Can we have your stuff?

I don't come here unless its important, and as usual you get the forum trolls that have nothing better to do. They discount you cause they don't see you on here, or don't agree with you, which is all fine and dandy, it is what it is. But this here is important, and as far as my experience in SL none of you have a clue, just discount anyone who comes in you haven't seen before as a noob, idiot.

Let me tell you something I was Scripting Weapons in the Thick THICK LAG, when you were were trying to figure out the command to get your attachment up(/1 up)!! I've been here since 2006 scripting contributing kicking ass in SL in combat sims, was a sl millionaire multiple times over in 2007 and beyound, so pffft!

Now this is Serious 2009

We had  88, 220 – 29th March 2009 at 1:28pm SLT Concurrent Users

LL Company Revenue adjusted for inflation was $146,393,862.13

2024

Concurrent Users Maximum: 43, 000 – 48, 000 (average)

2023 LL Revenue is $75,000,000

What Happened?

Viewer 2 launched officially (out of beta) on 31st March 2010

This is why I am here in these Forums trying to be heard before we see a income report for 2024/2025 as $37,000,000

This is a MAJOR EVENT, that will effect the game I've been playing in for 16 years and absolutely Love. I love this game, I don't want to see it go under.

So discount away numbers don't lie, we are in another major even that could cut this game in half, its very serious.

2024-17= ok, I've been here since 2006 and mostly all I do is script.

But do continue.

LL is a private company. Last I heard, they don't report their revenue. But do go on.

Linden Lab are a privately owned LLC, where are you expecting to see an income report ?

They are so imaginative, they imagine Google is their friend, and that Google gives them reports which nobody else has!

I wish that I had an imaginary search engine friend that gave ME reports nobody else could see!

ETA: Last time I imagined something like that, I was in college and had inhaled some questionable chemicals!
