It's directed by Greta Gerwig. I'm anticipating that it should be fun, clever, and, yeah, at least a little "feminist."

Hey, if I can anticipate enjoying a film by that arch-conservative Christopher Nolan, YOU can suck up a bit of feminism alongside the jokes!

I'm sure the movie will be fun. I'm also sure it's not going to do or say anything too daring. Unfortunately. I'd love to see something completely off-the-rails done with that theme.

No, I think probably "sly" rather than "daring." This is being marketed as THE summer "Fun Movie," and I'd imagine that the political commentary is going to be pretty subtle in order to ensure that popcorn sales aren't too much affected.

But we'll see. I have an open mind about it still! I may end up disappointed. I may like it! Or maybe I'll just . . . end up eating a lot of popcorn.

Blah. I'm just not a fan of overly safe social commentary.

Should've turned Cronenberg loose on it. 😏

Only partially kidding as I can't physically stomach his films, but I'm super curious what he would've done with a theme like that...

I hope I can eventually persuade you to exclude me from this list. It itches being on it.

It's written with ink though, so you'll have to work for it!

How does one actually mispronounce "schnitzel"?

27 minutes ago, Silent Mistwalker said:

By not pronouncing the ch?

It comes out snitchel? (Who's the snitch?)

Pretty much that, yeah. And for an American to do so is just pretty much expected, it's just a positive surprise when they don't, but when Swedes do (we use the German words for both Schweiz and schnitzel), it's pretty embarrassing.

Not sure I could handle a Cronenberg take on it!

But it would have been interesting to see it in the hands of either someone like Sarah Polley (ok, not famously known for "funny" or "fun" movies, admittedly) or Daniel Kwan and/or Daniel Scheinert, of Everything, Everywhere, All at Once fame.

In case you weren't aware, a lot of people in the U.S. only heard the word "Schnitzel" in the context of a fast food chain!

https://www.wienerschnitzel.com/

That might be the one saving grace for that fast food chain. That and the ironic absurdity that they're a go-to fast food place when one is craving chili over hotdogs, burgers or fries.

A lot of people have a hard time pronouncing 'Schweiz' (Switzerland). A lot of people also have a hard time pronouncing 'Schnitzel'. If you struggle with both, perhaps don't make a cooking video for Schweizerschnitzel.

Do you have a link to the video with the funny pronunciations? I want to hear this for my self.

An admittedly brief glance at their menu (I've never heard of this chain before) seems to reveal a mystifying absence of anything even vaguely resembling . . . weiner schnitzel.

huh? 😕

Hey, why not! His "last" film has just come out, but how many times has he "unretired" now?

I think the closest item on their menu to anything German might be the Polish dog with sauerkraut.

Ooo, all good options. I'm a little peeved that we don't have a section of the entertainment industry where multiple directors can work on different versions of the same film simultaneously and we get to see a variety of takes on release. I mean, the fact that it costs a gatrillion dollars to make a film aside, this would be so awesome!

Hey Cronenberg, David Lynch, Jordan Peele, Daniel Kwan, Sarah Polley, Miyazaki...we need a film about Barbie. GO!

Peeve: WANT!

There was a movie made in the 690's that had, 5 (?) directors if you include the "additional scenes by", called "Casino Royal" with David Niven, Peter Sellars, Peter O'Tool, Ursula "Undress", Orson Wells and many many more cameos from well known actors of the time, along with a bunch of 60's fashion models, it even had Woody Allen...

The Movie is absolute chaos. Does have some great lines though.

Thank you!!!!

Oh my gosh I entirely missed this film. I binged a bunch from the 40s and 50s (thanks to TCM), but didn't get too into the 60s yet. That movie has SO MANY actors/actresses I love. I'm going to need to find this immediately. ❤️

My fiance and I have agreed to do a back to back run with Barbenheimer.  I figure the heimer should go first so then we can watch the silly pink concoction.

My hope is that much of this Barbie movie will be subversive humor.   Margo Robbie is excellent at acting sly while still looking adorable. Some of the clips I've seen seems to point this direction anyway.

Side note:  Go to Google and type Greta Gerwig and see what happens.

This is the one where Woody Allen turns himself into a nuclear bomb at the end, right? Pretty sure I've seen it.

Sorry. I've never met anyone that pronounced it that way. Then again, I just live here, I don't really associate with anyone except hubby anymore. And lately I've been learning that because of my (lack of) hearing, I've been pronouncing some English words incorrectly, like exacerbate. I've always thought it was pronounced ex-cab-er-ate. 🤷‍♀️
