The end of gachas is sadly not the end of the ill nature of some people.

Clever boy :P but there are many other similar things to bitcoin these days that use the underlying technology - called a blockchain. One of those is NFT's - Non-Fungible Tokens. A "Token" can be any digital asset in theory.

Like I said, I dont know how it might work in SL. All I know is this image sold for 7.8 million dollars recently.

And there it is for anyone to copy.  So I don't 'own' the original?  Seems people with money to burn will.always find ways to make themselves feel special.  Owning a piece of nothing that costs a ridiculous amount of money makes no sense to me whatsoever.

We all own virtual junk in SL.  A lot have spent a ridiculous amount of time and money amassing items with no value.  So they aren't one of a kind items.  Who cares?  Why on earth anyone would want to drag that kind of mess into SL is beyond me.

I can just see it now.  Land becomes some asset, someone swoops in and grabs it all making it impossible for your average user to afford.  As someone mentioned already, have you seen the prices of some mainland?  The place next to me, 1024, is selling for 500,000L.  On Horizons.  Adult, double prim.

Here's my copy.  What?  I don't own it?  And?  I can still frame it and hang it in my virtual home.  Didn't cost me anything

But everyone knows it is a copy. There is only one original.  Owning a fake copy means nothing.  I can pick up a copy of the Mona Lisa for 50 cents at the goodwill store.  The original is priceless, but would sell for 500 million or more if ever put up for sale.

The assumption in the NFT market of "originals" is they will appreciate in price, so you are buying an investment.  Nobody hangs your NFT copy or the original on their wall.  You can't, it's a digital object.  It's a response to the nearly valueless currency being printed.  What is a $100 bill going to be worth in 50 years?

I'll stick to gold and Cobalt if I want to own a physical asset.

I would not even have a copy of it in my virtual outhouse, if I had one.

Lol Crypto is a divisive topic. No doubt. And IMHO, most NFT's are hot garbage.

But Visa just bought a cryptopunk. Of course, they are the master money launderers of the world :P. Paypal just launched crypto services in the US and UK. In the US they are talking about regulation (which is a good thing). Like it or not, its here to stay.

However, its the underlying tech I am trying to point out to you here, and how it could be applied to SL. It also "solves" copying issues, as if someone rips something and uses it in public, it can be proven they dont in fact own it and therefore must have stolen it.

My point is, it's unneeded in SL.  This is not the place to make investments.  LL would be foolish to allow that type of activity.  It would attract the wrong elements.  And as Sid said, an excellent way to launder money.

I can hang my virtual original on my virtual wall.  In theory.

Also, the whole "crypto money laundering thing" while maybe kinda true in the past is not anymore. Everything on a blockchain is traceable 100%. Just Google some of the money laundering busts the Feds and Met in the uk have done recently.

If your money laundering with crypto, your probably a bit of a crap criminal ^_^. Never mind most crypto exchanges now require Know Your Customer verification just like SL does when you want to cash out.

And of course, the premier choice of money launderers all over the world is cold hard cash. I dont see us getting our panties all bunched up about that.

Sorry I didnt mean to derail by starting a debate over peoples opinions of crypto.

But my point was related - something merchants could turn to in replacement of Gatchas if SL supported it that is less or at least equally as scummy. ^_^

Personally I think it would play well with SL's "spoilt fashion victim" crowd. To have the only set of clothing, sneakers or something in SL and be able to verify exclusive ownership. It doesn't have to be flat sh*tty pixel art. It can be any digital asset.

Didnt intend on starting a ruckus.

Personally I would be happy if Gatcha's just died, nothing replaced it and I could go back to just buying the things I actually want. A girl can dream I guess.

Thats pretty much the same criticism Musk had for crypto in general when he said Tesla would stop accepting Bitcoin until it became "greener". Its a valid criticism that can be levelled at nearly anything humans do. Musk seems to enjoy firing cars into space on the back of high powered fossil fuel burning rockets.

(Edited to remove an unjustified ad-hominem).

Society is a heat engine and we are on a burning planet. Is this news to anyone?

Oh my, were off the rails again ^_^

While it is a wonderful thing to see gachas being banned i'm afraid it will not stop there, these people that call themselves creators will simply find new means of luring consumers in with another "mystery" concept that in reality allows them to conceal rushed and often poorly made products behind it. Like a casino it does it's best to appear innocent while vulnerable customers such as children and other poor souls that are easily addicted becomes its victim.

These people with a abusive nature often defend themselves with "they have a choice" i'm sure the casino say the exact same while having set up traps before you even enter Las Vegas. The trap with gachas is that they gate a "rare" which is in reality not rare at all, they use this word in order to get you to buy as much trash as possible on the journey before you get to the destination "rare".

Another excuse they like to use is "it's a game of chance" but once you start digging for the truth it becomes quite clear that it really isn't a game of chance at all.'

As the moderator suggested, above is the original poster and the subject of this forum.  Basically, Gachas and Gacha people all BAD and sell to children.  Sellers all criminals.  Casinos attract children (huh?).  No drifting from this subject now, behave and defend the OP please!!  Mona Lisa discussions not allowed, unless part of the Gachas are evil topic of this thread.

sc off

I wonder if a gacha machine can be made that takes Bitcoin? You click on the machine, a webpage opens up, and you are given a hud. You then use the Bitcoin to buy tokens. The tokens go into the hud. You now use the tokens to play the gacha prize machine. You can also use the tokens to pay vendors, and rental boxes. The person that earns the tokens, has them stored in their hud. They can then go to the website, and cash the tokens out. They would then get Bitcoins, or another currency for the tokens.

Can that be scripted?
