She mentioned two things impactful to society: (1) The Moment of Lift [her new book on topic] (2) Women had risen to 37% in AI and they have now fallen to 19% in AI. She also said she can count on both hands the women of power in AI. Please take the time to watch this interview. Thank you for bravely speaking out in Community. Thank you for listening and understanding. That collection of commercials shows how the company framed the product as "tailored for the feminine hand," and, more to the point, as a symbol of women's empowerment. In 1968. The ad campaign successfully captured the zeitgeist of the US at that time with an image of a confident, tall, slender, pants suit-wearing woman on the go, mirroring the country’s mainstream awareness of the women’s rights movement, led by feminist Gloria Steinem, Bella Abzug, Betty Friedan and many other activists. Yeah, that's tacky alright. Reflecting the progress women have made in equality is always tacky.

Part of what empowerment and liberation means, unfortunately, is also the freedom to do all the stupid things (like smoking) that men have historically had better access to. But that's not because I'm emotional, it's because I've always dreamed of barnstorming and it seemed just a matter of time before I succumbed to the temptation. I don't like cleaning up vomit. I'm envisioning my brother flying with you as you take a mad dive toward the ground! I do indeed feel some kind of sick pleasure just at the thought! The funniest part of my story, that I failed to mention, is that my brother who thought women are too emotional and so should not be pilots actually ended up marrying a woman who is a commercial pilot!
Luna Bliss
This weekend I watched the oppressed women of Handmaid's Tale begin a revolution against the evil men of Gilead (remembering the wicked smile of the main character as she dreamed of causing trouble). Then I watched the lesbian woman in Gentleman Jack overpower the bad business men trying to trick her in 19th century England. And then, I topped it off with the mothers in Big Little Lies who got rid of the bad man of Monterey by throwing him on a sharp spike! lol

What else was I supposed to think other than you were talking about the commercials as a whole, not just the product. This is twice in two days. I feel like traps are being laid for me and I have no idea why that is being done. I'm already walking on eggshells here after more than 15 years of no suspensions or bans and then all of a sudden that changes. If people really do hate me that much then it's time for me to disappear.

Yay for my right to be . . . dumb! You are, of course, 100% right. The "ladette" culture in the 1990s was when young women started going out drinking and clubbing and being annoying much like young men had been doing for some time. Was it anti social and often unpleasant to witness? Probably. Did anyone give a monkeys until women started doing it? Did they feck. A more recent example: Fifty Shades of Grey, absolutely pilloried for being a pile of objectionable tripe. Is it a pile of objectionable tripe? Of course it is. Does anyone give a toss when porn for men is a pile of objectionable tripe? Badly shot, badly scripted, badly acted, badly executed, non-PC, an enormous steaming load of poorly produced, bubbling cack? Of course not.

My objection to it is that women deserve better porn (and there is MUCH better out there) and that whatever his name was isn't a dominant. He's a psychopathic abuser and it was presented as being erotic and thousands upon thousands of women and teenage girls read it (or watched it) and came away thinking it was sooooooooooooo dreamy and are going to get destroyed by women-hating miscreants in the name of 50 Shades of Abusive Behavior. 5

I agree completely. I'm just making the point that pornography for men contains a tidal wave of material that is just as objectionable and much more so, but nobody calls it out until it starts appearing in stuff by women for women. The Gor books routinely contain scenes of women being scarred with burning irons, beaten literally senseless (and revived with cold water just to be beaten senseless again), keelhauled, left for hours on blocks of ice and thrown into sacks of manure, to name but a few. I could perhaps excuse this as fantasy or just a story except that it's always followed by 5000 pages telling you that this REALLY IS how women should be treated, and of course they always fall passionately in love with the sociopath doing it. And these books have been coming out with depressing frequency since 1792 or whenever. To be honest, Fifty Shades, crap and offensive as it was, really had nothing on this Texas Chainsaw Massacre style orgy of utter effing hatefulness. 3
