See how we hijacked your thread to make it more interesting to the general Forum Audience? Or at least us. Unless Thornycroft also likes pancakes. Syo Emerald
I doubt its the same. Stabilizier for cream isn't sugar that has a vanilla flavor...but I'm super suprised it isn't common in the US. Here in Germany I get it in every grocery store in the asile that all kinds of supplies for baking.

Kwakkelde Kwak
I was just kidding, never mind my odd humour. But... The picture of the vanilla sugar is also from Walmart, so Karen shouldn't have any problems finding it.
CheriColette
It's so easy, just pop a pancake mix into muffin trays [half fill them] and cook in a moderate oven for approx 15 minutes. I put strawberry jam on them with a quarter of a fresh strawberry and dusted them with icing sugar.

Madelaine McMasters
Penzey's is a local outfit, but they ship nationwide... https://www.penzeys.com/catalog/product.aspx?catalog=24&product=1524 Or, if you're industrious and have access to fresh vanilla bean pods, try this... http://www.copykat.com/2010/03/12/how-to-make-vanilla-sugar/ I don't bake enough to make my own, but mom and I tried it when I was young. I also keep orange and lemon zest (peel) and oil in my pantry. A drop of oil or a pinch of zest does wonders for many things. Good stuff.

That's not vanilla sugar. It is vanillin sugar. Vanillin is synthetic flavoring made from either guaiacol or lignin. No real vanilla is used in it at all. Real vanilla comes from vanilla plant beans. The real vanilla tastes better than the synthetic vanillin. :matte-motes-delicious: Where I live they cannot call vanillin sugar as "artificially flavored vanilla sugar". The bags clearly state: Vanillin sugar and Vanilla sugar. So you know what you get. :matte-motes-smile:

But: It was the first suitable picture I found in google to show people what I was talking about. Of course there are always different brand in different price categories with different materials. Even between the "natural" flavored ones are big differences. But you know, after all the whole food industry tries to cheat on you.

Are you trying to say cherry, strawberry or banana tasting foods are actually syntheticly flavoured? Outragious! Kwakkelde Kwak
As you can see pop tarts do react. Not so sure if they'd be this layed back if you ate one of them. Then again, this one seems to be quite content.
Aethelwine
For savoury Crepes it is worth trying beer instead of milk like in this recipe: http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/wordofmouth/2015/feb/12/how-to-cook-the-perfect-crepes Lemon and sugar is nice, but spinach and ricotta is my favourite filling.
