Seems like being nude is no problem at all when going to stores especially pg stores who sells fitted mesh body. Been away from sl for a long time and this thing excites me, well not the nudity but the hd bidy that you can mod like the system avatar ;p

I remeber 4 years ago when i started sl there was this freebie mall for newbies that has dressing room for male and female with security guards and dont you dare walk in the opposite gender area which segregated only by a line on the floor or youre ass will be kicked out lol. ;)

While probably in violation of TOS, the nudity rule at those stores is generally given the “look the other way” treatment for very practical reasons; some of them make it difficult enough, in terms of lag and shopping procedures, that going home to check the “private goodies” is simply too cumbersome an option.

But indeed not all people look at it that way. While I was there doing my puchases, and though I myself had gone the trouble to at least use underwear in respect of the rule, I found it somewhat amusing to get a couple IMs from the opposite gender with what seemed to me like not so much out-of-place as actually a bit oxymoronic praise for “my looks”... it was the exact same body that everybody else was wearing, not even yet customized or anything, but whatever.

There is so much accidental nudity in SL these days - like when you turn up at a busy place there are sections of unclothed mesh bodies waving about in random directions and after they snap into place you see complete naked people until their clothes rez. This makes a bit of a mockery of the regulations and so they might as well be abolished!

Shops selling body parts or whole mesh bodies are really not a good place to come to the conclusion that nudity has increased or is more accepted now then before. If you try out mesh, and even more mesh bodies, its likely you appear nude for a moment to others or that you need to be nude to judge how good a skin or body is made.

For the same reason that underage kids who help their parents load grocery bags into the car aren't usually hit for a "minor in possession" charge when they hold a bag with beer in it.

You may be right.   But the policies still state:

"A region designated General is not allowed to advertise or make available content or activity that is sexually explicit, violent, or depicts nudity. "

http://community.secondlife.com/t5/English-Knowledge-Base/Maturity-ratings/ta-p/700119#Section_.1.2

And on the Market place the "G" rating regarding Nudity for Skin Stores is strictly enforced.

The marketplace is absoluty freaky anyway....you get rated A there for no reason at all or suddenly because writing two X in a row is somehow censored.

The key word filters for the MP are insane.  No doubt about that.  Absolutely no doubt!

But the listing guidlines are very specific regarding images:

General Content Is For All Residents.

  • Avatar goods that may be sexy, but are not sexual, including:
    • Avatars and avatar skins as long as they do not show anatomical nudity. They must not depict genitals or female nipples in either the listing image or the inworld item.
    • Avatar accessories, including sexy clothes and undergarments, as long as they do not expose genitals or female nipples.

Because of the lack of massive booting from them.

There is no such thing as a PG rating anymore.

I don't think it's anything new.  I remember when I joined in 2006 it wasn't uncommon for me to see nude people in skin stores because they were trying on skins.

I doubt nudity in skin stores shocks or corrupts the 16 to 18 age people.  Nudity in this situation is not sexual and it's not as if the RL you is nude, just a bunch of pixels.

Technically it is against the TOS to be nude in a G rated sim, but people that may be offended by it probably are the type to insist that fig leaves be put on nude paintings or sculptures.  As someone else pointed out, its common to see nude people whose clothing hasn't rezzed yet.

I hate it that LL is so ambiguous.

Somehow, I feel reasonalby well in compliance with the rules if I am topless in a PG area, after all, even the new mesh avatars are not exaclty "photorealistic". I always cover up in G areas, though.

Or are they..."photorealistic" ....  who knows what quality porn the official SL censor has access to?

Good point, though you might be surprised how many of them don't have nude display pictures.

As far as people trying on the skins, I bet many don't even look/see/realize they are in a General SIM.

And I agree, sometimes nudity gets blown way out of proportion.

I always find it amusing "adults" complain about slightest bit of nudity. Personally I find those fugly "child avatars" 100x more disturbing than breasts and butts, and the way they talk is 100x more freakier than that (what is probably a 60-year old homo sitting in his mom's basement talking like this in an online game: "wahh mommy I want the candy!"). Once someone threatened to "report me" because 1/5th of my nipple was showing from underneath my top. If you complain about nudity in a game designed for 18+ people then you're just beyond pathetic. Please go back to playing your Dora the Explorer kthnx.

My "malfunction" is a simple typo, should read "hobo" not "homo". Your malfunction is much more severe unfortunately, for squealing like a 2-year old at a typo, unless of course you ARE one of those freaky fugly child av's, in which case fits your role. Calm down and have some Prozac.

As a 60 year-old hobo, I find your tone offensive.
