  2. The majority, if not all, the vamps I've encountered spammed me with bite requests. And the majority of people on my mute list are spampires that wouldn't take the hint after my third or forth refusal of bite requests. Any wonder I've never considered joining Bloodlines or related groups?
  3. Perhaps it is not actually SL (S as in Sam and L as in Lima) but something that looks like it. Such as SI (I as in India), or S1 (the numeral one).
  4. A little quirk I just discovered about mesh is that if a mesh is less then .5 m in any direction it and everything that it is linked to gets quietly switched to physics type convex hull, and what I mean by quietly switched is that the server kindly does it for you without notify your viewer. Had a fun time trying to figure out why I couldn't walk through a mesh doorway (which was .3 m thick) and why the mesh stairs I had linked it too was suddenly barred to me, even though my viewer said their physic's type was prim the server had switched them to convex hull. After several minutes of head thumping, VR and RL, I searched the mesh forum and found the above explanation. Just something related to this topic I thought you'd like to know.

For merchants it's nothing but for many people it was a good thing. Personally I'm just glad we didn't get yet another rose. They did not give it to millions, only those who logged in yesterday before 7:30 SLT were eligible (and it was not millions), and not all of them recieved it as far as I can tell. Several of my alts that I had not gotten around to logging into by 7:30 last night still got the gift. A couple I hadn't logged into for a longer period of time did not get the gift. So I think the Lindens extended the eligibility sign in period to cover for network problems I've seen in other threads, yet did not give it to everyone
  8. Looks like a no win situation for the Lindens. If they had created a gift they would be told it's crap and inventory clutter. If they had just kept quiet and let this day pass by they would be accused of being thoughtless. Too much like RL, she scoffed at the heart shaped box of chocolates and card from Walgreens and asks when she's getting a diamond ring. Gah I hate Valentine's Day! :smileytongue:

  10. Most of the time I use Firestorm though it often feels they've gone way overboard with the features. If SLViewer could copy-paste object properties while building I'd probably use it a lot more. Don't know why someone hasn't created versions of their viewer geared for specific activities, for example a builder's edition for the builders, driver's edition for the vehicle drivers and sailors etc, an adult's edition for .... well, you know :smileywink:
  11. Cool pic! Wonder what music she is playing.
  12. Where are you from? New Mexico, USA The part that Texas carved off and discarded When did you join SL originally? Early Feb 2010. Am I old enough to feel important yet? :smileyvery-happy: Had heard about it a couple years before but didn't think my dialup connection at the time would handle it. Keep feeling that I've arrived at the party late when the most fun stuff is already over. What have you mainly spent your time doing in SL in the past? Exploring and checking out what others have created. Deciding I can do things better myself, trying, and often proving myself wrong. Wasting lots of L$s buying a cool looking mainland plot only to abandon it a couple months later when coming across another cool looking plot. How are you planning to spend your time in SL in 2013? Stay in my current mainland plot for more then a couple of months and actually complete my virtual home. Continue developing my mesh skills and consider myself lucky to have skipped sculpties. More exploring. Maybe actually create an avatar that doesn't look like something scraped out of the bottom of the freebie bins. :smileylol: ETA: by the way, this isn't a research survey or anything....this is Porky, stuck on a train bored out of his tiny little mind. Almost makes city buses look welcoming.
  13. One case where I've seen a lot of prim drift is when I try to make the mirror image of a tortured prim by copying it then flipping it 180 degrees about an axis. Usually I avoid that approach, but occasionally I forget and use the copy and flip method and a great majority of the time I soon start noticing prim drift.

(Tried to find a screwdrive-in-head smiley but gave up after fumbling into some autopsy images) :matte-motes-sick: I kept thinking: "Just say, "I'll be right back after I remove this screw" - turn off the cam for the few seconds it takes to remove the screw without trying to hold a cam in one hand - and turn the cam back on to show us the inside of the box. Gah! I get this mental image of him facing a mirror and we see a guy with a hand and cam all grafted to one side of his face, and so hopped up on whatever he's taking that being a freak can't get him down.

  16. At 100 posts I got an automated form letter, you'd think that at 1k you'd at least get a "... and all I got was this stupid tee shirt" tee shirt.:smileyvery-happy:

Not sure what the time period may be, if any. Just happened on a Meadowbrook last night that had been claimed by Governor Linden a little after 7pm, yet more then an hour later it still wasn't showing up on the website. I checked on it this morning and it had been claimed by someone 1:30am this morning. I don't think the Meadowbrooks sit unclaimed for very long, so in this case it looks like it took more then six hours for the house to become available on the website.
  20. Can't emphasize too much about having Show Property Lines on, when purchasing land it helps you see exactly what you are getting and helps you prevent encroaching on your neighbors' land when building. I've seen a lot of parcels that have a small "donut hole" parcel in the middle of it making the larger parcel almost impossible to put a structure on unless you can somehow obtain that donut hole parcel as well, having Property Lines on helps you see things like this before you buy the land. To help determine if your house will fit in a parcel you can use Edit Terrain to sketch a yellow square, and if you don't own the parcel you can't make any real changes so don't worry. Right click on the parcel you are interested in and select Edit Terrain. Then if you just click once you get a 4m by 4m, or 16 sq.m square which is the smallest unit of land possible to have. Click and hold as you drag the mouse and stretch the yellow box in 4m increments. So if you drag/stretch a box 8 units down and 8 units across you'll end up with a yellow box 32m by 32m, and if this box sits within the boundaries of the parcel you've found a parcel that your 30x30 house will fit in.
  21. To me it just sounds like someone being pissy because only ten people came to their "very good SL conference with many good speakers and interesting talks". I do think SL could be doing better without a lot of the blunders LL has made, but it's far from dead.

  23. I'm seeing a lot of abandoned land that is roadside, not sure you'll get a landbot to bite even at 0.1 per sq.m. What I've done with some success is put in the land name and description "Will abandon mm/dd/yyyy", there may be potential buyers waiting to see how low you are willing to go and this tells them that if they wait too long they'll have to pay Gov. Linden 1.0 per sq.m And being that you've already reduced the price to L$614, less then three RL USD, I think it'd be more worth for time just to abandon it if it doesn't sell.
  24. The four day weekend alone was great, didn't do much more then sleep and play around on grids. Saw the family happy with the gifts I got them, got a few myself, plus a good chunk of gift cash I should try spending before it gets swallowed up by other things. And as I mentioned before spent a great deal of time playing around on grids, but totally ignored SL. Lots of little Opensim grids out there, de-Ruthed myself many times with freebies that all seem to be coming from the same source these days, nearly all of these grids had a welcome area with live people to great you. New Opensim is much improved but still glitchy, was still refreshing.
  25. I started using "they" back in the days of MUDs when just defaulting to "he/him" would get me called a sexist pig, and several claimed to be of a gender other then male or female. Being how many seemed mentally unstable I think in several cases I was using "they" in the plural anyways.:smileytongue: And it's good for a language to be always evolving, keeps the machines from taking over. :matte-motes-nerdy:
