  1. I don't know if there will be an official thread from Linden Lab that will allow comments, but it has been stated that they plan on making an official announcement about this feature in the future. If it will be before or after release is anyone's guess, heh.
  2. When I filed https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-11368 it was a different take on existing suggestions. It was supposed to have both agent and object qualtities. That way we could accessorize our "npc's" with ALL existing content, mod or no mod, legacy or rigged/fitted, using faux attach points, give them the ability to sit on our existing vehicles, furniture, etc. This seemed to have been too difficult to achieve and so an easier alternative was chosen: Object based only, which I can deal with abeit the loss of many abilities. One thing I'm still going to continue to ask to be considered is the ability, by script, to assign a body shape and avatar physics from the object's inventory so we can use existing fitted mesh content and not have to reinvent the wheel faking it with non-intuitive, completely redesigned, custom animations, clothing and bits. The adult industry is another huge market for this and it will demand the use of standard fitted mesh content.
  3. Well, doesn't sound like thats whats going on, but for the record, LL has yet to update any of their experiences that use temp attaching to check if slots are available even though we've had the ability for over half a year now.
  4. I would still rather do animations versus who knows how many dozens of alpha cycle mesh phases, lol.
  5. I had an idea similar to how item space is alloted in some games. How about 1 animated mesh consumes 5 or 10 attach slots? Some will be ok with that, some won't, but it is an interesting solution.
  6. Worn flexible mesh hair/cloth may have to be it's own animal as it would need rag doll physics to work correctly, but there have been several times creators have shown us unorthodox ways of making things seem like they're defying the odds. Being allowed to attach an animated mesh object is one of many things we're going to have to fight for as it was mentioned support for it isn't initially considered. The pet market, though, really demands for it since most pets have the option to be worn on the shoulder, by your side at your feet or flying around your head/body. If animated mesh can be attached it will have to have a flag letting all rigged mesh links know to rig to the internal skeleton and not to the wearer's skeleton.
  7. If llAttachToAvatarTemp() fails due to the target not having any available attach slots, it will change owner and remain in-world until autoreturn. Efficient llAttachToAvatarTemp() scripts should be checking the target against llGetObjectDetails() and OBJECT_ATTACHED_SLOTS_AVAILABLE.
  8. For future prospects, LL has just begun working on animated mesh which will allow you to assign a secondlife avatar skeleton to a rezzed object and any links with rigged properties will conform to the skeleton. You will be allowed to play animations on that object effectively making them look like avatars. The project has just begun so there is no word on how long it will take to fully implement, but it is definitely something to look forward to.
  9. Use case determines the best nomenclature and this truly has a broad range of uses, especially outside the norm. Other than humanoids & creatures, this can be used to create orgnanics, machinery, and even players you control in mini-games. An example of the latter: A creator can make a soccer field with animated mesh characters and have the player sit in the stands while using experiences to control their camera perspective to follow defenders, midfielders, goalie, or whoever has control of the ball and control what they do. The "NPC's" in this case have effectively become playable characters, heh.
  10. No, that UG doesn't maintain transcripts as the moderators are using voice. The other UG's haven't been keeping up with transcripts lately except for the beta UG.
  11. Vir Linden announced that work has begun on animated mesh in the Content Creation user group today. Here is a video of the live stream: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IStlohQHg7M This single feature, if done right, will greatly improve experiences and commerce. Secondlife will definitely become more "lively" once it is implemented.
  12. Kelly's simple snippets have far more substance than all of Sansar's public PV's thus far, heh.
  13. The overall problem is that LL only follows the money and goes no further where that ends. Governance needs to update their protocols to also follow purchases and distributions of no copy objects as well if they find that that stolen funds were used in the original purchase and return the no copy object(s) back to the original seller. While it is true that a no gift option on marketplace could still be abused with an alt making the purchase, logging in and transfering the object to another alt possibly generating a transaction trail, it would still slow them down and make it even easier to track their actions. This feature aims to decrease the chances of fraud, as it is impossible to deter fraud 100% of the time. A seller can have peace of mind not allowing gifting of high dollar items and/or no copy items if they choose. With all that said, I'm curious how you all would feel about additional listing options such as: - Accounts must have Premium status to buy this item. - Accounts must have Premium status to search/see this listing. - Accounts must have payment info used to buy this item. - Accounts must have payment info used to search/see this listing. - Accounts must have payment info on file to buy this item. - Accounts must have payment info on file to search/see this listing. Such listing options would also further reduce the chance of fraud. Adult listings already require adult status afaik so it shouldn't be hard to check for the logged-in account to possess any of these flags. Granted, it may hurt sales chances, but it should still be up to the seller who they fell comfortable marketing and/or selling to.
  14. Years ago, notecard reading was querying the dataserver every call by llGetNumberOfNotecardLines() or llGetNotecardLine(). The server now caches the entire notecard data on the first use of either function if it isn't already cached. That could result in a 1 - 10 seconds delay in return of data. That said, the 0.1 delay no longer seems necessary nor does the 255 byte return limit especially when a few KVP functions can return up to 4095 bytes. Maybe someone should file a request for a new notecard reading function with no delay and larger return capability. Maybe https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-4906 can get some attention then, heh.
  15. Looks like the RC's went to 17.04.13.325429 and Cake went to 17.04.13.325432 instead.
  16. @Qie Probably a 0 taper sphere. Legacy prims max out at 1.0 for streaming cost & sculpts, 2.0.
  17. Amazon Lumberyard is similar although they yet to offer a currency, marketplace, domain frontpage and/or social media connections.
  18. Using uri's for owner & creator would be less overhead.
  19. Where are the shineys? It's boring not having any new script functions to play with.
  20. @Patch That looks like a FEMA camp to me. Is LL accepting refugees or something? Do premium accounts get hobbit homes?
  21. The "pay my rent" bots are not hijacked accounts. The owner created them then delayed using them for half a year or more to add to the obfuscation of a legit looking account. People are less inclined to give money to blank profiled day1 accounts.
