  1. Couple of things that might help: - check that you have no vertices assigned to more than 4 groups: Avastar ToolBox >Weight Limit - if that's the case: go to Tools > Weight Tools (the standard Blender ones) > Limit total; select 4 in the operator window - ideally, you'll want to limit the gradients in this case because it looks like a metal bracelet -- you don't want it to move like fabric or skin - you then want to make sure that all the weights add up to 1. Select Normalize All in Weight Tools - then check your weights again, making sure it moves properly after those changes Also, this looks very smooth -- make sure you haven't subdivided too much. I've never tested it, but vertices being too close to each other are likely to cause issues as well.
  2. Absolutely. I think you ought to give creators a bit more credit than that. Sure, there's a learning curve to optimising content, but it's not *that* steep. Besides, it's not like anyone is expecting perfection. Unfortunately, we don't have clear guidelines on what's acceptable in terms of number of triangles, texture size etc, or what percentage of LOD degradation to aim for, so the main measure of quality is "does it look good?". And by and large, it does! We've got some seriously skilled content creators in SL, and I'm including hobbyists in that. I trust that they'll be able to optimise content if we ever get better guidelines than just land impact (which is so easy to game it's not even funny).
  3. Automatic impostors would be awesome, I agree. As for the other LODs, it's easy enough to do them in Blender (or Maya or whatever), which gives you more control over what gets decimated and what isn't. But LODs aren't the issue in this case. The issue is 40000 tris. Yes, it's a great-looking model, but it's designed for a high-resolution static render rather than a game-like environnement like SL. This would be a prime candidate for a high-poly to medium-poly baking workflow.
  4. Blimey! Why does a weathervane need to have 40,000 tris? I bet the mesh looks solid in wireframe mode. For comparison, the SL avatar has 9090 tris (naked avastar female, with hair and all that jazz). The mesh density of some of the stuff out there is properly horrifying. I'm well aware that optimising isn't easy -- I mean, I look at some of my stuff I did two years ago and I want to bring out the chainsaw to trim some of those polygons. But at least I'm trying.
  5. Yes, their Bento heads do that as well. The animations (eyes and lips) can be combined to create your own chat triggers.
  6. Alpha sorting issue, maybe? Try setting the alphas to masked, rather than blended.
  7. All right, so... I'm a bit of a loner, and I like to explore -- sometimes I just hop on my old horse and ride through the mainland. I like how eclectic it is. You get to see the newest items on one plot, and prims that were rezzed in 2004 on the next, and sometimes a mix of both. I love that. When exploring with a goal in mind, I tend to go to steampunk/victorian-themed sims or visit countries. I also like small dance clubs with a lot of chatting. But mostly, I'm a crafter. I like creating stuff, IRL or SL. In SL, it used to mean texturing clothes (back in 2006-2009), then more recently I moved to static meshes (mostly props) and I've just started to rig clothes. Weight painting is actually rather enjoyable... when the mesh doesn't explode, that is! So, yeah. Basically, I'm shy and busy. ?

  9. J'ai le meme probleme, mais c'est intermittent -- j'ai un message du genre "votre photo est en attente de telechargement". Mais j'ai essaye de nouveau avec un alt, et la, pas de souci.
  10. Check Lure for a smooth, hand-painted look.
  11. No, the drop distance is fine, but a good medium LOD would be nice for people who don't have objects at max all the time (or while the objects load). And low/lowest could be a cube of roughly the same size as LOD1, for only a few more triangles. (Unless I'm misunderstanding the numbers above -- I don't use Firestorm, so that's definitely possible!)
  12. I think so -- what Callum showed. LOD1 is pretty good at 290 triangles, but then going all the way down to 2 triangles at LOD2 is harsh, to say the least.
  13. Neualtenburg, Svarga and Numbakulla -- my three favourite destinations from "back then", in no particular order. There was also a set of educational sims about weather that I liked a lot -- great for skiing. Can't remember the name.
  14. Of the ones I've tried, I prefer Slink Physique or Signature Geralt for a slim look, and Signature Gianni for a more muscular look.
  15. Unless you're French, then they're not unique at all... They're just as common as Black and White. The B&W look is a nice concept, though. There's a room like that in the haunted hotel where you can find this week's SL15B gift (like on the official blog) -- all black and white, with feather plants, a piano, and, uh, a couple of skeletons. It looks stunning.
  16. I'm also tired with the lack of options. I'm not keen on street-wear stuff, and I particularly dislike the super-low-crotch shorts and trousers that seem to be everywhere at the moment. On the plus side, I'm about ready to start making mesh clothes. I saved most of your Howl page for inspiration, especially the more steampunk-ish stuff which is right down my alley. My favourite male body is Slink, so there's also that. The minuses? I haven't put any clothes out there yet, which means I don't have any devkits. Might take a while. I'm getting the hang of weight painting, but it's still very much a work-in-progress -- I'm at the "weight a skin-tight suit with a few buttons" stage. And I'm painfully slow. But as my malt has been wearing the same clothes since, oh, 2012, I have a strong incentive to get things moving.
  17. I remember going there just a day or so before it closed down. Great to know that it's back!
Bonne chance!
  19. Check Kokoia as well. They have a variety of low, formal shoes.
