  1. People in this thread acting like noob avatar with a beach ball wouldn't be fun.
  2. But how are we selling them for taxable income if they're worthless game tokens? Doesn't the one thing negate the other? How can we have both? What happens if you divide by 0?!
  3. SL is the only game where you gotta wait around that long for stuff to download. Most others deliver content way ahead of time or far more efficiently. The simplified/complex mess really is a mess. I don't have a response for that.
  4. On the other hand, the average creator in SL, especially ones that don't write their own scripts, is terrible at any kind of optimization.
  5. That's a fair point, I've made very little furniture, so maybe I just don't know what I'm talking about. The furniture I have used though, never needed more than one or two scripts. If you've got so many poses in a single couch or bed that you're hitting memory limits, I'd be extremely impressed.
  6. I enjoy reading threads like this. On one hand we have a TOS that says L$ are game tokens and aren't worth money, on the other, they're telling us we have to file taxes on said tokens. Downright meme worthy.
  7. These days I do all my info storage on notecards or on my server. Very little gets stored in the script. I haven't had script memory issues in a long time.
  8. Popular games aren't popular because they have simplified graphics. They're popular because they're easy to learn, easy to use, and allow a player to log in, accomplish clear objectives with minimal investment, and log out, all inside the 30 minutes of free time they may have after work/school.
  9. Some people just have a good eye for that sort of thing. I'm decent with the body but terrible at faces, for example. Many of us just buy a shape we like and then tweak and customize it.
  10. Both of those links prove my statement correct. Not sure what you were going for there. It sucks for people with disabilities, but it's true. Quick, efficient communication makes things easier. The good news is, nothing in SL is so important that those extra steps or savings in seconds are needed.
  11. For most things in SL, text is fine. But for productivity or for other games online, if you're not using voice you're going to probably be a detriment. It can really drag things down.
  12. It may have changed since I used it (or before I used it- in the 90's), but I distinctly remember clear, concise menus. Pick Draw > Line and you're drawing a line. Draw > Circle and guess what? You're drawing a circle. Don't like menus? There's an icon on the bottom of the screen with a circle on it. Guess what it does? Allows you to draw a circle. That's a good, easy to use UI. Want to optimize your goofy shapes? Now you're breaking out the manual. With Blender, you're breaking out the manual just to figure out how to put those basic shapes on the screen.
  13. Digging in the manual to do basic things = reading the manual.
  14. Years ago I used AutoCAD for the first time. Within minutes, with no manual or tutorials, (Didn't even have YouTube back then, and barely had the Internet) I was drawing nifty stuff because the menus and buttons were available and made sense. With Blender I have to watch a 20 minute video or read 3 paragraphs searching for some obscure set of keybinds and toggle 3 different modes just to copy a box. It's pretty clear what the source of the problem is.
  15. Or... You could laugh it off and get the next one because it cost less than the coins under a couch cushion.
  16. "In short, hire a private investigator to do 3 weeks of research before making a 2 dollar USD purchase."
  17. Stuff like this is why the modify permission is so important...
  18. As a scripter that sometimes makes my own mesh when I can't find an appropriate full perm item for sale, I can say these two things: Blender is a confusing mess with probably the worst UI in the history of software development. There are no current, up to date tutorials or wiki entries that apply to Second Life. The few that exist reference stuff that's been removed or changed in previous versions of Blender (which makes the already confusing UI even worse). It's really no wonder why mesh creation in SL is so bad.
  19. LL tried this already. They dumbed it down so much that people couldn't do basic stuff. It was the worst possible experience users could have. Let's face it- SL will always be niche, because LL doesn't know what they're doing with what they have.
  20. I'll check 'em out. Thanks.
  21. Not one form. That's simply not feasible with mesh bodies. Virtually impossible. Creators already do it when they make the same shirt for say, maitreya and belleza- I'm trying to find a pack that crosses genders too, not just bodies within one gender.
  22. Anybody know any decent stores that sell "unisex"? That is, the same piece of clothing made for male and female mesh bodies? Think uniforms, but anything will work, really.
