Not to slightly derail but what is that bridge used for anyways? I never thought about it til now... and with my own MP problems, I use the magic box or tried to, and I use firefox for the web.

Few things - So looking thru the threads, not even a search but just skimming, seems others share a lot of my aggrivations (market, mesh, and all the other BS). A couple people mentioned FB has a VR now. Well that is great except think of this - in SL, we have the unwritten rule about "SL is SL and RL is RL" They might collect enough personal info to take money if you buy L$ but LL doesn't ask or care what your favorite songs are, fav movie, what you ate for dinner, where you are going in RL to buy more toothpaste, etc... FB has no such rule. SL is where some people try to *somewhat* live out their deepest, most depraved fantasies in a safe platform. Would you want fb knowing what your dirtiest thoughts are? FB is not setting up a VR to compete with SL, they are doing it to dig deeper into people's minds, to invade their privacy on the most intimate levels. In SL you have the cloak of "SL is SL..." but in FB, you are NAKED and not in a good way. LL does appear to be cutting off their noses despite their face by making viewers more demanding and leaving behind some old and many would-be players. Notice FB doesn't do that? Not cause they "care" but cause they want to pry into every single thought and action about you. They want to afford ALL an opportunity to share their lives so they can sell your story to big brother or companies. Some people value their own privacy cause there are some out there that will nag or try to harm you for no other reason than how you live or who you are or even age, race, gender, religion... In case you cannot tell, though I often get pissed at SL, I hate FB with a passion that burns like the fires of hell. I cannot honestly say I "hate" SL, it is just aggrivating at times. Love-hate maybe Would you want the world to know what you do in SL? FB would love to know. Stay OUT of FB VR if you do anything more than buy milk at the gas station.

hmm, sounds like the same thing as in RL when you call the cops for something and when they arrive (45 minutes later) they act like YOU are the bad guy. Unless it is something directly harming LL they tend to not really bother with things. You pretty much have to be screwing up huge before they step in. Huge as in crashing ne of their own sims, running a casino, or doing something that Chris hansen would be interested in putting on Dateline. I know they don't really mess with minor griefing cause I have personally known griefers who have been reported and never heard another word about it.

On any forum or SL or FB whatever, why would one need followers? If you know who your friends are, the real ones - just communicate with them. It doesn't have to be set in digital stone that you are friends

Yeah a couple days ago I tried to open a store, of course I have to use the magic box cause I cannot use V3 on my computer. Well to test deliveries and how the products would actually work to the customer, I bought my own junk using an alt. Had delivery failure problems with SOME products but not others. No big deal, at least it was ME losing my own money instead of angry customers losing their money. A lot of customers tend to assume it is the seller's fault if deliveries fail. And yes, it seems to be a nightmare trying to set up crap. I just decided to unlist everything until I can pan out if I am doing something wrong or if it is really a MP issue.I would love to make a buck or two from things I have built but if MP is failing, what is the use? Plus yeah, the MP set-up seems to be a nightmare. One really has to dig for info on how things work

Some people would be lost, dead lost. I would be sad that my poor little avatar would not have a digital world to bop around in. BUT, life, er, REAL life would go on. They can have the $2 RL USD worth of L$ I have to my name. Would not be worth so much as a phone call. If you want to imagine hysteria, imagine if FB and twitter shut down? There would be rioting, bombings, suicides, homicides, people jumping off buildings, diving in front of moving cars, things would get bad enough that they would have to start marshall law to control the insanity. The screaming, whailing, gnashing of teeth and noise would be like the sounds of HELL ! My only regret is I would not be able to "like" it on FB that they are finally GONE. Now me, if FB and twitter shut down, I would be outside doing a happy dance and singing a fast-paced silly disco song. Thinkerer is on inworldz? Fascinating, I thought only TWO people on earth played inworldz. I guess it is up to three now.

So in almost four years, seen several trends come and go. Still thanking goodness that "Bling" fell off the face of SL. Remember when all shoes HAD to have that? Always like some "latest and greatest" must have thing, the latest buzz is about mesh. I cannot see mesh inworld, but on the market with all the things I seen, it doesn't seem to look any better than what sculpts did. Ugly and awkward. It just seems like in RL, people in SL are often led around by the nose with every silly new trend. You never hear the word "sculpt" anymore but a couple years ago, you would have thought that is what the S in SL stood for. Then you have this trying to sell on the market - I cannot use V3 so I was stuck with the magic box. It was infuriating cause things seemed to work half-assed, despite everything I tried. Then i thought - "why am I wasting hours of time messing with something that amounts to nickels and dimes? If i quit buying cigarettes at $4 a pack I would have 10 times the money than i would ever get on the market. If you think about these trends - it is never about making friends (except overnight relationships) and always about some new stupid building trick. SL thinks it is gonna compete with FB and that can never happen cause SL seems to be more of a program for building pure junk than relationships or whatever. With SL'ers being RL withdraw, who knows if SL is the cause or effect. I tend to speculate "effect". Sometimes I think I should try to get a better computer so I can enjoy SL more then I think - "Am I really willing to waste $500 on a machine just to play what is basically a game?" This revelation happens usually when I learn of a new limitation of my computer with SL. LL seems to enjoy sending people on wild goose chases. You want to do something? You gotta have or do this first, but even that step won't work unless you have or do or learn this or that. Almost like a scam, isn't it? I wonder what is gonna come of mesh once the newest thing is thought up? Oh yeah, in the landfill along with sculpts. Silly me for asking. I wish I had never got hooked on this game. Anymore it is like my smoking habit - I hate it, know it is a waste, but cannot really just quit.The person who talked me into trying SL - I would love to kick her in the seat of her pants. I know someone will come along and explain all the benefits of mesh, and it will be the same explanation that people said about sculpts at one point. What good is it to save standard prims if the latest type create lag even worse? So on the social side, it is a 3D FB with the fake friends. On the build side, it is a constant, "Oh no, that is no good anymore, you need this instead". Anyone else get weary of the wild goose chases?

Maybe Inside Studios has houses you would like. They might not have mesh but do you REALLY need mesh? Mesh is nothing more than the new sculpt. In about a year something else will come along and mesh will be forgotten for the new laggy and expensive "must have".

LL doesn't mind that there are all these people in SL whether they stick around or not. If they have a lot of names, it looks good to investors. I think the REAL concern is this - Some people get addicted to SL and end up thinking it is a real life. How do we get these people to get off their butts and enjoy REAL life? I guess no one wants to hear that though

Good to know I am not the only one. I have had nothing but nightmares trying to sell on the marketplace. What I did was list a few things, give a friend some L$ to buy them and she never got them. No big deal, it was on my dime anyways. And no i don't think she is going to file a complaint, shge is not that type and I would just give her the stuff anyways. So I logged in with my main and an alt and bought my own stuff as my alt, some delivered, some didn't. As I cannot use V3, I am using the magic box but cannot figure out why some things deliver and others don't. HAHA, and I thought using the marketplace to buy stuff would be easy. I forgot this is SL.

Yeah the new viewer is ugly. Well, V2 anyways, I have little clue what the latest one is. V4 or V5 or some crap like that. The new viewer V2 was horrific but we adjusted.I will stick with FS beta as long as possible. Another big issue is they let anyone on age 13 or above. Well, here comes all the facebook kids who think this is another FB. For us older residents, that means dodging noobs and their random friend requests. They are trying to make SL as easy to use as possible but to get the full benefit of SL, the noobs are just gonna have to learn some basics. No one is asking them to become experts in photoshop or CAD so they can build or sculpt or mesh or whatever the latest prim scheme is. I think part of the issues with SL is the same thing the entire web is suffering - facebook. As we know, FB is seeping into every page and is "Big brother" in digital form. Some of us hate it, some love it, and the rest of the web is trying to get a piece of the pie. SL is no exception. That is why Breedables were invented.

This would be a reason to have an alt - the ghosted problem.Just if you think you are ghosted, log in with the alt and to go wherever your were logged in before. I am guessing you would find your other avatar standing there. Once in a great while I have the problem of my account being inaccessible for a few minutes if I crash or something. I think one would pretty much know if they were suspended under ToS for something but to get that takes a lot. Even at that you would be notified.

The boots were a gift from Chronos Serenity, he makes shoes and sells on the marketplace. The name of the boots - CS Talisman stella leather black. I don't know if they are on the market yet but they come with an alpha, the prim boots, a foot shape, and a simple resize HUD. His page in in french as he is french. The shoes are good, the boots are awesome. And at a good price. Not quite N-core but then who the heck is? In case you check his p[age - "Acheter maintenant" means "buy now" Reason I got them as a gift is cause I had a slight issue with a different pair of sandals but it was promptly resolved.

My little avatar went to a photo studio (again) and had a lot of fun. This was after some facial reconstruction back to her previous looks, but improved this time. Here she is showing off her newest summer outfit she so loves. In the second pic you can see her newer face. She wants a bedtime story. Anyone volunteer?

ToS is mostly there to cover their own butts. That way if something went further than SL, they could say, "They agreed to some Tos" or whatever. The Tos for using the web in general is if you don't want it shared possibly, don't post it to begin with. OPnce it is out there, it is out there.

Razzanova has a couple freebie things from time to time if you join their group. Couple decent skins and maybe a decent outfit or two.Plus it is a small shop so you are not overwhelmed like you might be in some of these gawdy huge places. Keep in mind that with some freebie clothes, it is stuff that the creator made some weird mistake on, like say it is a tank top and the front and back won't align correctly or just weird stuff.Some freebies are good but it can be a hunt. Freebies are good for a beginner but eventually you will find you will want actual nice things. Do not go around inworld asking about freebies cause what will happen is people will dump a ton of landmarks and old clothes on you and it can be a big chore rummaging it all. Sure they mean well but it can be aggrivating when you have several people just throwing stuff at you. Eventually you will develop your own style. Some will try to customize your avatar to what they think it should look like but you will learn how you want to present.

1. What role do virtually constructed worlds and/or avatars play in your daily life? When I am bored I tend to log on and mess around a bit. SL is basically a chat room and web stop for me. 2. Is it important that your avatar and/or environment resemble the real world? Why or why not? My SL house does but it has kind of an 80's theme. My avatar doesn't resemble me too much except the tanned skin and maybe the build. I do like it to resemble the real world somewhat cause I am kind of a realist 3. In what ways do you identify physically, visually, or otherwise with your virtual world/avatar? My avatar is kind of like an imaginary friend who has her own personality. 4. How do you interact with other individuals in the virtual world? Most people I just kind of have short chats with. I might act goofy or immature at times but I avoid personal insults as i don't know what is behind the avatar. Could be someone who is bed ridden and probably doesn't need more grief. I do have a couple good friends in SL that I chat with about SL and RL matters. 5. How are these relationships different and similar to those in the real world? In RL, I seldom talk about SL. I might mention it or show a photo of my avatar but as far as relationships, I treat them the same. some good friends, mostly though casual acquaintances. 6. Do you feel the same sense of responsibility, loyalty, or obligation to other individuals in the virtual world as you would in the real world? For good friends yes. I used to not care but my best friend in SL got upset when I took the summer off and she explained that she misses me and was mad that I acted likie the friendship was less meaningful just cause it was in SL. So some people DO care about me or at least enjoy my company. 7. Granted that you are physically in front of a screen, what does it mean to be "face to face" with another individual in virtual reality? I guess in the avatar vicinity. I don't think too much of it like that cause I have a couple friends in SL that we chat but never are on the same sim. It is kind of cool to meet up and check out each others' latest looks 8. How does your participation in or construction of a virtual world satisfy your real world needs? It is entertainment. Like I said my SL house has an 80's theme so I can re-live the good ol days even if only in a virtual setting.

Don;t overlook a couple things - Is it important that your name is visible? Make the color of the badge accordingly. Do you want "topics" (meaning "started threads" I think) to appear? Also you notice in most cases, the avatar is kind of off to the right. That is cause the junk on the left would cover it. In my case, i didn't care if my name shows or not so I just used a pic I like.
