  1. funny how that happens in summer. Even with 17 daylight hours in a summer day, I never have enough time to do all I want and need in RL.
  2. Probably just another casualty of a bad economy. Usuall;y when stores or clubs vanish, it is without a trace. Only exception is if the place plans on re-opening in the future. Even in my limited travels, I have seen many a clubs and stores come and go. Keep in mind that when something is in SL, some aversge joe is paying for it out of his own pocket and is hoping to make enough sales to warrant keeping it open. If it ends up costing more than it brings in, he quits paying and the sim is cleared and rented to the next person
  3. The market is so flooded with BS that people sell that it would be hard to moderate. If they market it with a trade-mark name then yeah it could get messy but if not, I mean what can anyone really prove?
  4. Wow, 3 years 2 months of SL. I see profiles of those who joined in 2010 and think, "n00bz" even tho it is hardly the case. In these 3 years I have learned the more important lessons of sl - I do not let SL interfere with real life obligations like I had in the past. I do not let SL control my RL emotions. I do not worry about impressing other residents, nor do I try to waste time helping some noobs who won't be in SL more than a day or two. I do not worry about the BS going on with SL politics, or the shady viewers and why they got shut down. I do not worry about the "demographics" of who plays SL cause i tend to stick with old friends that remember the original viewer. I do not try to "keep up with the Joneses" by overspending at places like redgrave just cause someone says it is the best. No, I do have my favorite places to shop and none of them are even close to being the top SL vendors. Being in SL for three years, people don't even attempt to grief me or do stupid crap like dump their freebie garbage on me. I have seen so many "serious" SL'ers come and go. Try to help them, they learn, then a few months later they decide to drop off the face of the SL earth. These days when I spend time in SL, I might check out the new stuff my favorite shops has to offer, I hang out with old friends, or see what damage i can do to my house that sits on a humble 1024 lot. It is all I need. My SL friends know more about my real life than my SL. They know my looks and voice. I do have an SL partner. Yes, old friend. I guess if ever there comes a point when you "grow up" in SL, this is it. LL pulls another weird stunt, who cares? Overspending on the "best" things in SL? why? Viewer 3 is out? So what? Firestorm works just fine for me. Popular hang-out spots in SL? Yeah but how long will they last? I do love watching the rat race that newer residents try so hard to keep up with. My little Erin avatar has become a wise mature woman. Maybe a little jaded too. Set in our ways and comfy, Erin and I have beat the game that is - Second Life.
  5. I was thinking of getting a new computer. Mostly cause mine struggles with SL. right now my FPS will run about 2 in a busy place and that is with my graphics setting in firestorm set at minimum with draw distance set higher (112). My computer supports only 2 GIG RAM, right now I run 1.5 gigs. Vista computer Anyways, with the low FPS, what bears more responsibility for that? Is it lack of RAM or just a crapy graphics card? My card is - Graphics Card Vendor: ATI Technologies Inc. Graphics Card: ATI RADEON XPRESS 1100 Series How would I know if a better graphics card would even work with my machine?
  6. Tell your domme that Helen Waite is in charge of gifts so if she wants Xmas presents, she should go to hell-n-wait.
  7. this is not weird, it is a classic case of cataracts. Avatars are feeling the effects of them too. Luckily for them, it doesn[t require surgery to fix.
  8. that was kind of my first thought. Ali and allie hairs are not usually that nice, of course hard to tell from the ad, you kind of have to get close up to see.
  9. tends to happen I guess. Since July I have hardly been in SL and now I am back to stage one - Old friends gone, don't know what to do, it is depressing in a way.
  10. There are tons of virtual worlds out there, SL seems to still be in the lead. The rest of them are pretty much walking in the shadows of SL.
  11. skyboxes are better for privacy. Some of us, like myself, prefer a house or whatever on the ground. MY poor little avatar doesn't like to be cooped up in some box in the sky.She likes to go out of the house and run around wherever without having to fly or TP. I think also that a lot of times skyboxes tend to be more xepensive and less prims available. take those into consideration when shopping for a place to stay.
  12. One thing you just cannot do much in SL that men tend to do a lot in real life - In SL they cannot exactly say they are coming to town (to the SL sim I guess) on business and want to meet up in a hotel by the airport. I think the fact that avatars are pretty much the ideal representation of beauty (as close as you can get with a digital human in an RPG) is kind of a buzz-kill for many cause of course in real life, very few of us are as sexy. Well except for me, my avatar is jealous of my beauty. She wants to be me.
  13. Yeah advertising in general is insane. Fashion magazines are nothing but ads, radio is chock-full, and the worst is - like when you go to a movie where you paid $10 to get in and have to sit thru candy and car commercials, it bites. For SL, yeah I made the mistake of getting on NOYA mailing list and now every time I log on there is some notecard about a sale or something free that had been given away 1,000 times before.
  14. Unless you find an SL job that pays L$2,000 an hour, you would be as well off getting a real life job instead. Seeing how L$2,000 is about $8 of RL USD, that is how much you would need to make in SL just to compare with burger-flipping wages in RL. Thing is with an SL job, it is work. You end up working for some idiot who takes SL too serious, and SL work is not fun. SL should NOT become a responsibility unless it is paying for most or all of your real-life bills. So here is the plan, either get a RL job or put in a few more hours a week and then buy the stupid L$ and then when in SL, knock yourself out with buying small pieces of land, having some dream house, some pretty wife (who is probably a fat woman or a loser guy in RL)... No need to work in SL, christ man, turn off the computer and go out and experience REAL life.
  15. any FPS over 60 is redundant cause it is not like the human eye could tell if it were higher.
  16. I am doing my part - in the past week, I spent 2 minutes logged inworld and during that two whole minutes, I didn't buy anything. People, we must fight this monoarchy known as LL that is overtaking our lives. I was thinking about a good way to handle this big problem and I got a sign after I replied, the song "Ghostbusters" came on the radio. So yes, if this tyranny continues, I am calling the ghostbusters on LL.
  17. Pesky griefers don't get banned from SL. To get banned from SL, you have to mess up BIG time. I think but am not sure of this, however - I believe people that are banned from SL are the creators of Emerald, the guy who made megaprims possible, and probably some other people who created real issues in SL. Some joker being rude is the least of LL's concerns. Just blow off the silly griefers, it really does make them go away. If you get burnt out on SL like I did, yeah I guess take a break but don't stomp off in anger just cause some dumb 12 year old kid is acting, well, like a 12 year old.
  18. Well soon will be my third rez-day. And in that time I have - built stuff, made friends, lost friends, been in a relationship, bought land, did some verbal griefing and got banned, bought and sold things, did the "poseball" thing, made several looks for my avatar, created gestures and animations, dabbled in sculpts, been in clubs and worked in them.... just whatever stuff. I even made a couple videos about SL Well now I log into SL and have no idea what to do. My friend who was acting like a brat pretty much blocked me or is at least not responding (she has a habit of doing this to everyone she meets, it just took almost 3 years before my turn came) I remember at one point I was so hooked on SL that I would put serious life responsibilities on the back burner to play just "a few more minutes" in SL. Have YOU ever said, "just a few more minutes"? It is weird cause at one time, it would take something serious for me to log of SL, say like needing to go buy more cigarettes. Nowadays, well really since July, I log into SL hoping to find something. Kind of like how you sit thru a bad movie hoping something will turn. My time inwoprld went from 15 hours a day to 15 hours a month. IN some weird way, I feel bad about that. I mean losing 95% of my desire to be in. I am not sure what keeps some people hooked year after year. Am I just missing something? Have I just forgotten how this SL thing even works? At this point, I might as well be running around bald, asking how to get a job, and wearing a box. Where did the fun go?
  19. people come and go on the web. One needs to be realistic about trying to merge RL and SL. Think of this - if you met them in RL, pretty soon they would be too busy playng SL and you would be talking to the back of their head. If you want to learn the reality the easy way, listen to ex-addicts of SL or whatever latest social network is out there. People get involved in web relationships and it ends up costing them real life relationships, jobs, etc. I am down to ONE person in SL that I would maybe call "friend" and it would be cool to meet her but she seems emotionally volitile. I had a few I thought might make good real life friends but of course with people just dropping off the face of the SL planet, I quickly learned that people just don't care.
  20. It is her favorite food. She has to keep those hips somehow.
  21. My poor little avatar looked pretty bad at first but I got her fixed up. Back then I thought she looked really good but I had no idea. anyways the shape is mostly the same but of course with better hair and skin and clothes.
  22. yeah kind of like real life isn't it? The best thing is to NOT try to worm one's way into cliques. Best to have individual friends. I talk to 4 different folks on SL, as I am not in there a whole lot anymore but the thing is, those 4 do not know each other. Sure they would probably get long but the 4 are nothing alike so I keep it one on one. You have to keep in mind with a RL or SL group chat, most people are more interested in what they want to say instead of listening to anyone else.
  23. A lot of people are tough on a forum. And yeah there will always be the smart alecs. Keep in mind that a lot of cyber-bullies are probably some zit-faced skinny dork in real life.
  24. when I was out of work and the weather was cold I would be here a good 8 hours every day pretty much but since summer and finding a job and other things, I am maybe on for like 4 hours a week. Lately I don't even feel like being on. It can be insanely addictive at first but the novelty wears off and it becomes just another stop in your web browsing.
  25. two middle aged men in SL falling in love and both playing female avys and claiming to be lesbians? OH gyod, yeah right, HA now you are pulling my leg!
