  1. It is cool if you can still enjoy it. A lot of us tend to get burned out though. I try to get in and enjoy but then I start thinking of all the things I could be doing productive in RL.
  2. Inworldz pretty much sucks. Nothing there, not a lot of people and the grid is kind of shaky. I mean it looks like there is a tremor now and then. You can check it out but you are not missing anything. There are in fact a lot of VRs out there that use the SL viewer but they are so dead, I mean like "currently logged in - 26" WOO HOO.
  3. SL gets boring cause after a time, you have done everything. Friends come and go. You can put together only so many looks, live in so many houses, and all that. There was a time when I could easily spend 12 hours a day in SL, sometimes up to like 16. Lately though I would say on a good WEEK I am in there maybe 4 or 5 hours. I usually log in, get cast into the lake of notices for B.S., see what friends are on, then log out unless I see someone I want to hang out with. Besides that, with all the changes like the areas closing, a new viewer every other month (that presents more problems) it just gets old. The whole novelty just fades. Try to make new friends with people and they are often just too busy. I think the reason that some of us oldbies who are bored keep coming back is probably the same reason people keep opening the fridge looking for something to eat when they already know there isn't anything. Of course when THAT fridge problem happens where I live, it is cause my avatar ate all the yummy stuff and then acts like she has no clue what I am talking about.
  4. they were talking about getting rid of the magic box at least two years ago.
  5. Christ almighty! I didn't read most of that but did this OP'er write the entire bible in that post? I don't think the script that runs SL is that damned long.
  6. I don't quite get the club thing anyways. A bunch of lag, jery avatar dancing, crappy music, gesturbations non-stop, reminding everyone to tip the DJ, and people wearing crap that creates even MORE lag (are those 200 flexi-prim wings REALLY necessary?) In reference to Amethyst's comment - yeah with voice you often get to enjoy their background noises... how sucky would it be if you were having a good voice chat and in the background you hear the husband yelling "Hey honey, come look at the size of the dump I just took!"
  7. In a lot of parts of the country, we don't even get RL precipitation lately. It is a sad day when rain becomes something we see in SL cause it is not possible in RL. FML
  8. My Erin is depicted as 25 years old in SL. No longer a kid but old age is not setting in yet. As we know, by the crepid old age 26, the body starts falling apart and we start thinking about our mortality. She is not there yet. My avatar would be a little urked if I made her into someone my age of late 30's. BUT for SL age - she is about to turn 4 years in game. My gyod has it been so long? Most of the human avatars I have seen would probably be guessed at mid to late 20's.
  9. From a recent photo shoot. Handstand and the second one is a bit off angle but still my fav pic of mini Erin.
  10. I have yet to find an "ideal" skin. I know there is like Curio, belleza, redgrave and all that but really, I have found that Razzanova is the closest thing to my "ideal" as I can get. Shape - though it goes thru minor editing time to time, it is basically the same and always has been. I have tried drastic different shapes and it just feels weird.
  11. this is interesting. I mean knowing that Uncommon Truth doesn't wear undies in RL... Oh wait... that is not the point here... But for real, sometimes SL can be used as a sort of "testing ground" for certain things. Maybe looks, fashion, etc... A time or two I have either replicated my avatar's look or maybe altered her outfits to match my RL ones. Your avatar can be a good friend in that way. Amazing how "pixels on a screen" can have such a powerful effect... Hey, if an abstract character in a virtual world can give someone motivation to be their RL best, who isn't for that? I admit though - my avatar has a shape I can not even hope to have in RL. No, cause she actually has good hips. She is a bit more plus size than the RL Erin though. Probably cause she eats all my ice cream and pizzas. For Neal - yeah some time down the road when you have a good physique and if people ask how you did it, you can say, "Playing video games helped" and you will be telling the truth
  12. If nothing you do works (rebake, TP, clear cache, wear other crap, scratch your backside with car keys, etc...) Then time to do the character test... This is how it works on V1 - Advanced, character, character test, test male (or test female) Others would have to explain V2 and V3 ways of doing that but as a last resort... So then you get your stupid noob avatar to rezz then you can go about rebuilding it's look. Sometimes little avatars just get pissed off and need to be reminded that you take good care to make sure they look their best. After reverting to the noob look, they tend to cooperate.
  13. Gyod, if being griefed by certain people is that big an issue - find a new spot. I never got why people insisted on going places in SL or RL for that matter where they are just gonna run into drama. Are people THAT territorial in SL? With having a prison island in SL for the riff-raff, I doubt that would do much good cause no one is going to want to log into a game and be restricted to something like that. Besides, given that a lot of griefers are perverts and/or underage residents, would it REALLY be a good idea to deliberately put them on the same island?
  14. I have that problem and it tends to come and go. I tend to be on the crappier end of the graphics and FPS anyways but yes sometimes it acts stupid. Seems moreso this past week or so.
  15. They have a tool that prevents someone from turning off their RL computer speakers? I know what you mean though.
  16. Gyod, do you realize there are like tons of places other than Disorientation Island to hang out at? Being griefed is part of being in SL. You CANNOT let it bother you. You think it is bad here, try playing WoW sometime. That place is nothing BUT griefing, lollercoastering, pwn1ng, "yo mamma" jokes etc.. Time to put on your big girl panties and get over it.
  17. Land impact is one thing but they would have to have a standard called "annoying impact". Things with high scoring annoying impact would be crap like that gesture that plays the song "gummy bear".
  18. You guys don't know what discrimination IS. I was once on this welcome area, some kind of infohub I guess they call it and there is someone on the banned list named "Stinky Taco" The words are separated with some kind of letter if i remember so I am not guilty of using an actual name verbatum... I am just sickened by this - how they gonna ban good ol Stinky Taco? WHAT could someone with such a clever name have possibly done anything bad? Let Stinky Taco back in!
  19. There are many clever expressions for this fact - Life is not so much what happens but how you react to it. When I first got in SL I was able to do something that I was not able to do in RL at the time. Once I was afforded the chance to do certain things in RL, SL kind of became more of a "game". SL can be VERY addicting at first and it can mess with your emotions like nothing you have ever imagined. I was 34 when i first got in and I never imagined feeling the way I did when i experienced certain things in SL. SL affords one a fraction of the satisfaction of doing things but with negligible risks. Without going into details, that is how my invitor to SL explained it. People might say "But SL isn't real" and the hard fact is - no, SL isn't real. HOWEVER, in the real world, the amount of cost and personal risk to do things would off-set the enjoyment of the reward so severely that you might not even be able to enjoy it when all is said and done. One thing i would give about anything to do in RL is to be able to live in my childhood home. It wasn't fancy, a townhome in a rental complex, but it was home and in my heart and always will be. But living there again will never be an option. So what I did in SL was to build a house that is very similar to that place with a couple necessary mods (long story). You would look at my SL house that I built from scratch and think, "This is Erin's dream home? Seriously?" Yes it is. Kitchen, furniture, my messy room, other rooms - replicated as much as i can to emulate the only place in RL i will ever call home. Reality itself pretty much sucks. Why someone would want a life devoid of fantasy is beyond me. How that fantasy manifests comes in different forms, SL is a way to visually see the things you have only dreamed of. Without the drawbacks that "reality" loves to offer.
  20. With rebuilding your avatar, once you get it down pat as to how to change it's looks etc, rebuilding it will be cake. Well except for trying to decide what to wear. There are times I won't even stay in SL for more than a few minutes cause i get frustrated trying to make that decision. The REAL challenge for rebuilding it is when you are "ruthed" and have to "character test" and start from scratch. But you get good at it.
  21. Y'all be dissin on Torley? Ehh he would probably take the joke well Also - those are not sheep, they are poseballs for guys like Larry the cable guy.
  22. O.I. is a dump. It needs to be wiped off the grid. Help island is just as bad for idiots who think they OWN the grid. I think my first griefing was on avatar island - some cage fell on me. The thing about "welcome" areas - they are infested with people who think they own SL and tend to be cliques. Just like RL - you get SL'ers who think their crap does not stink. All that pixelated sexiness goes to their heads. Or they are E-hard thugs. You know, little Jimmy in his acne-ridden stages trying to get even for all the times he got messed with in school that day. When you think of griefers in SL, just remember it is probably people have really pathetic lives. Some guys who could not get laid in a women's prison or women who are still waiting for their "big break" on TV when Jerry Springer finally invites them to the stage.
  23. I am not premium, never have been but would say this - If you are debating on whether or not to go premium, it *might* be the right thing. I have never heard of anyone regretting a premium account. Those linden houses are not really fancy but at least the prims in the house do not count against you like when renting private where EVERY prim counts (maybe several times over in case of bad mesh builds) I am a little higher maintenance than what a premium account offers so I just stick with basic, buy the L$ when I need it and rent on mainland from a private owner. Get to know SL before deciding.Just so you can see what is out there and figure out what you really want or need. In some cases you need to be premium, I think if you want to rent or buy land directly from LL but someone can correct me on that if needed. Low maintenance avatar - Premium is ideal. High maintenance avatar - premium is probably not going to suit your needs.
  24. Orientation island still exists? Oh yeah it is still on the map - if you scroll out as far as you can - you get an image of what looks like an anus and the name of it there... This proves that Orientation Island is the a-hole of the grid. Even if not for the fine helpful people there, the lag is unreal.
