  1. Adding a bit of glow can give a good feeling that light is being emitted from that fake outside, maybe using emissive mask mode too.
  2. The problem isn't on SL's end the problem is that your model is garbage, and this was told to you by people who have been modeling for longer than SL has existed.
  3. I have but it took me a second read. Anyway this to me looks like a content creation issue. The model you linked looks like an exported prim, so I assume blender isn't really your strong suit. I can already tell you that with the object rotation being off kilter like this, precision is the least of your issues. Object scale isn't uniform either, that typically doesn't cause problems on most models, but that's not how you get a "precision" upload. Meshs should have their scaling transformations applied. As for the off centering, you can't do that, the uploader doesn't care about custom origins, everything gets reset to the center of the mesh bounding box, so you need at least a single triangle to push the origin away. Because your mesh is the issue.
  4. Linden Lab is not responsible for your inability to use Blender properly, I'm sorry. And you shouldn't abuse LL employees on Jira because they take a decision you didn't like. All in all I can't help but wonder why such a simplistic shape has to be a mesh...
  5. I wouldn't mind an SL grid with a fresh start and none of the historical bagage & growing paints that we still have to deal with today. The mainland still has many little pockets of greatness. I immensely miss being able to just wander around and see what other people have made. In a way I see the "cloud" of private regions as an experiment that went out of control. And maybe a lack of vision for the platform. EDIT: Otherwise private islands would have been restricted to things like non profit projects that provide entertainment for residents. "Hey guys, let's go to gambling island" "Nah today we are going to the combat continent"
  6. It might be because of the mixed ssl content
  7. A very important and not well known thing with groups: Whoever paid for the group creation and was the original owner owns that group PERMANENTLY, even if they leave it. It only takes a support ticket to be reinstated as the owner of any group you created.
  8. Every region in SL is a work of art that demands to be imortalised, rent free. But if we start on this road I think we should start by saving my own region But it won't happen and I don't see Linden Lab opening such a dangerous can of favoritism.
  9. It's easy to say that this or that should be safeguarded when you're not the one footing the bill.
  10. Why don't you get your wallet out and pay the region fees for a few years? If it's such a great place it's a small price to pay don't you think?
  11. I was hoping that LL would add land access restriction based on experiences at the parcel level but it appears that it's not on the menu so you have to puck around with secorbs.
  12. It's https://blog.machinimatrix.org
  13. My opinion was that it might be using non uniform pixel size, which tend to create the whole "woodgrain" look on objects. But the new texture won't tell me what was wrong with the old one.............
  14. Yeah but mainland doesn't have setup fees. Setup fees on islands exist to discourage people from spawning regions "by the month" given that there is some grid-wide overhead to regions going in and out of existence. Tt wasn't always a choice you know. It's not that bad nowadays.
  15. It does, but you can't argue that the whole rental business pretty much exists to circumvent the normal land ownership system.
  16. It works if you need a large playerbase for your game to even function, but income typically doesn't follow and is basically resting on the back of a minority of "whales" (players who will spend hundred of dollars yearly). It is a model that has been devaluating the work of game developers and attracting people who literally expect videogames to be free and who have no intention to ever give you a dime for your work. (this is NOT related to SL but the game dev in me had to correct that statement) In this regard SL is a lot more nuanced.
  17. I'll paraphrase it: "Hey I saw that you got a 'buy 1 donut get 1 free' offer, can i just have the free one?"
  18. This is not how subscription models work, It's a package deal, otherwise it ends up being abused.
