  1. LOL, i don´t work in SL and i never have nor will i ever. But i have activities and fun yeh. Strange that ppl keep calling it `work´ There are many things to do. Build, create, go swim, surf, kite, sail, ride a bike, run a shop, manage an estate, manage or host a club, play dj, go ski, skate, rp, chatting, go to rl world replica of art museums and cities. There are beautiful parks, and you can connect to ppl and talk about a thousand life import matters in a relaxed way. Sjees there are loads of things to do, but if you are looking for some rl like everyday John Doe routines in SL (which i often see ppl somehow end up doing), yeh you could go call that work LOL.
  2. Hi, Probably they won't swap, however i would always simply ask LL. No we have, yes we could have. However, what you also could do is take back all your objects from your current land into your Inventory, then put it up for rent, abandon it or even try to resell it. After that's all behind you, file a ticket for obtaining an equivelant piece of Linden Lab (abandoned) mainland for L$1. If you want to swap immediate, then file a ticket that you want to buy a certain abandoned piece for L$1, then transfer all your stuff. After having done all that, you just dump the old land. You will be paying extra tier for a month i suppose. Best of luck
  3. Your computer should be able to run SL, however mind that the Gforce GT 430 is a budget card to upgrade from an integrated graphics card to makes games at least a little playable. Perhaps your card can barely handle SL, but the problem may well be the phoenix 1600 build. It is an experimental build for Mesh as they state on their website, and indeed experimental it most certainly is; I tried it too and it is very buggy. What i did was revert to: Phoenix Viewer 1.5.2 (1185) Jul 31 2011 18:26:33 (Phoenix Viewer Release). It doesn't allow me to see mesh, however i barely come accross it anyway so it's fine for me. In your case, perhaps with that viewer at low or mid settings you could try to play SL with Phoenix Viewer 1.5.2.
  4. Oh, since the day i came (Dec. 2006) I've always been very selective and cleaning my list upon no contact over some time. It really makes no sense to have pages of friends with just a few online and being in contact or active with. Even nice sim owners presenting friendship i tend to accept, but if they remain quiet to me, they also always went. I need to feel a real connection, and a respectful one with joined understandings and values. This results in a short list i agree, but a very active one without any worry of drama or misunderstandings. At the moment 15 remained on my list. 8 online now, all being active with. Last added somebody: 2 in Dec, 1 in Jan, 1 in Feb. Last deleted: 3 this week from the last 3 month's additions because they had been lying, disrespectful or calculative deceiptful (men!). So 1 remains from that period which seems a natural average for me anyway. Disrectful behaviour, showstoppers, upcoming drama, one way contact from my side, a total different interest in SL... poof... delete... It keeps my SL simple and clean with only real friends i truly feel a connection with
  5. I.e. keep all experiences similar to / for everybody One of the wisest policies of LL i have seen in years. Cheers
  6. In 2006 that could run SL, really not nowadays... And if it does... at least half an hour or so will take to rezz textures, if not an hour, even at draw distance 64. Huge nope ! It won't run SL at any reasonable speed. The dual core doesn't seem to be the problem, but the graphics card is way outdated.
  7. As fas as i see it, it was Linden Lab who created and established Second Life. It is their inetellectual property. Linden Lab did allow 3rd party viewers at some point, but why being surprised that LL lays down the rules? I agree that LL isn't innovative what so ever, however SL remains their inetellectual property. At the moment there are so many viewers from good ones to very unstable sl programs. The consequence is that it has become a total dazzle, dimishing chances of a joined experiences. What one avatar can see, isn't seen by another one because of possible different viewer they both use, higher crash rates etc. It has become totally out of control to my hounest opinion. 3Rd party viewers ok, but only if they unlock handy wanted options which are more dificult to reach in the official viewer (via the debug settings). Or if they can speed up rezzing, etc. The experience inworld should be the same for evertone i truly advocate.
  8. Personally i would not worry about such too much really. People like her are mostly thrilled by the negative interaction. Just ignore her and you may certainly ban and mute her so she can't visit the club anymore. And how can she ever release personal info from visitors to your club she doesn't even know anyway. Ignore her, and her fun is gone, and she's gone... most likely. I have to say that AR's aren't always dealth with as we would like to, but i can say from my personal experience that LL does act upon them within a day as fast as i have seen. I do suggest to include her chat / IM text in the AR proving that she does what she does. What does help a lot (i've learned via service chat toi LL) is the more ppl AR her, the higher LL's attention will be. I've done this in the past with a lot of griefers, harassers and bot farms. We had a group all AR-ing the same persons at a given moment and this has helped a lot. About all cases we raised were dealth with accordingly and swiftly. What also can add is that more ppl from your friendslist address her firmly in a formal way upon AR. One of my friends used to address like this in a notecard or IM (a notecard usually worked best). "Sir, madam, it has come to my attenion that you are misusing Second Life to play improper threatning games in region <regionname>. Mind that real people are at avatars which means you are violating Linden Lab's Terms and Services. We have filed an Abuse Report to Linden Lab agaist you and included all your IM's and chats. We strongly suggest to end your game of misusing Second Life. As of this moment you are banned from region <regionname> and you are awaiting Linden Labs further actions". Perhaps this all may help you, well it did for me at a time. Best of luck Ariella because i know such people hare highly irritating and can kill an sl business. Perhaps i'll visit your club one day
  9. What i noticed is that the Phoenix/Firestorm explains it all rather well. http://www.phoenixviewer.com/ There is nothing more to it as far as i can see.
  10. My first reaction when i signed up was like... huh? Why can't i choose the name i want. Gosh that was 5 years ago... (unless i was willing to pay 100 US$ duh!) Strangly they then changed to one user name which is even more restrictive. And there we had display names coming to add to all the confusion. The only thing LL needs to change is making it possible choosing usernames by oneselve at signup, possibly bringing back the dual fielded login screen, and communicate things like the single named users have a default second name 'Resident', or using the alternative login format like firstname.lastname (with dot) or firstname lastname (with a space) for use of single fielded login viewers. Two names we can choose ourselves would be so much more freedom. How hard can that be...
  11. I think many ppl are awake, question is... and what is next to actually do something about it, thus actual mass to become disobedient to the current system. Otherwise it is condemed to remain a kind of academic talk, meanwhile letting the policy makers corrupt more and more. I just hope the time comes fast that ppl are mass fed up with it and act somehow. Changes are only possible by 2 means as far as i see it: getting organized step by step to bring change (like Nelson Mandela did), or by a crisis (like riots and wars).
  12. I am very certain that there will be a world wide riot and "war" against the world we live in. My question is, when will ppl actually organize themselves strong enough to become disobedient in such a way that they cannot be harmed anymore by government officials. A friend us did it. He pulled out all his money from his bank savings, just kept a small account for petty payments, quit his job, stopped paying his bills except for energy and internet. He stopped eating meat, grows fruit and vegetables in his house. The little money he needs comes from a part time job at a local super market. He doesn't have a car anymore as he uses a bycicle, etc. He throws all letters from the government and fiscal offices away. He's been doing this since 2 years. He says... well if the police gets me i might have to do some time... ok then... But sofar he is left alone. But.... who can and is willing to live like that... We are sooo fond of our materials... and affraid to take those risks. Ppl from Greece could also simply say... no more... And many are doing it even. Communities in Greece help anyone connect their disconnected energy lines when they are cut off by reason of unpaid bills etc. Being disobedient, but with help of the local community much more is possible.
  13. All newer viewers supporting mesh are very laggy and super buggy. There are no exceptions. Mesh has compromized speed hard. Therefore 1.23.5 Is the most stable viewer and i still use it, along with Phoenix viewer 1.5.2 (1185) which is 1 based although on Snowglobe. But the latter is very close to 1.23.5 and its performance plus stability, plus it has the latest options except mesh. Since 1.23.5 is no longer available for download, what i did was upload it to our rl business server to preserve it for anyone wanting to download it. Although i did learn a bit in SL i am absolutely no computer expert but what i do understand is that 1.23.5 is still far the best viewer ever. Phoenix viewer 1.5.2 (1185) is a perfect alternative for using the latest options. http://www.sensic.nl/PrivateMedia/Second_Life_1-23-5-136262_Setup.exe It is the original 1.23.5 of course, but should anyone have thougts ( i can understand because trust in SL difficult), then 1.5.2 from the Phoenix team is great too. http://www.phoenixviewer.com/ Mind that the 1600 Phoenix build looks like V1 is mesh enabled but super buggy. 1.5.2 (1185) is smooth, stable and fast mesh not enabled.
  14. I think what is happening is that ppl are not necessarily depressed, but i do sense many are just tired the way life is organized and with all the bureaucracy, politics, taxes and industrialised systems which have driven them into a kind of economic slavery. There was a time ppl didn't need all that technology and they could live from nature. In fact it is not even not so long ago, about 100 years ago ppl could have water from their own well, hunt and grow their own food, make a fire, etc. Nowadays too much is forbidden and too much is strongly held within systems we must comply to. We moved from the Netherlands to Belgium a few years ago, had a villa buid, we both run our own business in the Netherlands and living very happy, but the tax documentation we need to supply now is just killing. And if we don't supply it we will be accused for fraud while we have done everyting correct. And this is how life is organised, how to make lifes of ohter people a misery because too many just need to make some money with jobs they don't really like. I mean, how much fun can it be to kill off somebodies joy by pure bureaucracy. Governments and banks first hold a carrot in front of us so we follow, and when we actually have eaten from it we are punished hard as we must provide evidence that we ate from it, how much exactly and when with whom. We live in a rediculous world if we think of it.
  15. UHUH!, i have a superb quality high end excellent rl car that no one else can see while it needs service at some point, LOL. Would that be handy? The maker claims it is excellent no less.
  16. Very wise. The differences of experiences at the moment are way too big due to too many different features per 3rd party viewers compared to LL's program. It distroys homogenenity and the differences are so big that it can come to very serious misunderstandings between residents like the unability to share a windlight setting upto the question to ask someone to rezz a standard cube to demonstrate something where the latter rezzes a huge prim because he had it set as standard in his phoenix viewer and then blaming me to mess up his build, while he did it purely himself and i had no knowledge what viewer he was using. Meanwhile totally bullying me. A kind of low life person in rl no doubt, but... All the different viewers have become a serious mess when it comes to a joined shared experience. Wise !!
  17. Hi, First of all i really would suggest not to go bf hunting in sl for rl if that's your plan. SL is really full with weirdos you just don't want to meet rl. I mean... go out in rl. Meet a wonderful man there. There are some very very very rare cases that some rl couples met here in sl, however the last thing i ever did was to find a rl bf here even when i was single a few years back. RL is the place to be for that really (!) Not some 3D pixel game... If you just want to play "couple" in sl, ok. Then i would suggest to go to busy places. There's always a guy willingly to follow your pixels lol. But pelease... keep that to sl. SL really is a place too full of messed up ppl you just never want to meet rl.
  18. LOL, well sometimes people are crude like that in SL. Nothing can be done, and i would not expect any help from the forums for such a thing. Do move on. About names. Everybody here says that it is against the tos using them LOL. It's a self fullfilling myth well kept. It's not direcly against the Tos since the names you use are just SL play names, nothing to worry about. I have used SL names so often here, specially to expose serious bad shop owners and never had problems from Linden Lab or such. But i don't think you can expect help here for such a thing.
  19. Mind that mesh is still in its infancy shoes even for Linden Lab. It means that the source code is imported to 3rd pary viewers too with all bugs and problems with compatibility amongst different computers. I would be careful with mesh at the moment really and not expect too much of it. If it works it works, but... if it doesn't... it just doesn't. In time it might become better, but i also did understand that it's a very complex matter. Time...
  20. Not surprisingly. It has a G210M video card which is so bottom spec light that it's totally unable to do 3D. Perhaps some vintage games at low graphic settings may run, but Firestorm? LOL, errmm, no. Perhaps, just perhaps if you use a vintage 1.x based light SL viewer set at low/mid graphic settings with very low draw distance you just might be lucky, but i fear the worst... Sorry.
  21. My experience is to have a mainstore well found in search is really enough, is reducing costs while the turnover remains the same, and it is easier to manage. Traffic in total SL is way too low in relation to SL's land size (about 30000 sims), so the chance that your satellite store in all the empyness in SL is being seen is very slim, meanwhile keeping them up is a weekly cost. The problem with many of those rented space or booths is also that you usually can't list them in the search the way it should be done properly. And being in search somewhere at the top is the most important thing. Same as ad boards, they don't work for the same reason. Traffic in overal SL is too low for it. I used them once and never had any sales coming from them. I quit using them. I had 1 satellite once, never sold anything there, but i wanted to help a friend out to fill the space in her sim, lol. A mainstore to be well found in search really is enough. Unless you just like the play with booths and satellites and you have time to spare for a phantasy only. I had a friend like that, she didn't care much about sales, she just wanted to play shop in SL. She never sold anything from them, just from her main store she did. But she just liked the play.
  22. Uhh, because they have nothing else to do?
  23. When you uninstall SL make sure that all remaining SL files (!) are deleted. Remaining uninstalled files may cause those errors. Perhaps SL's uninstall may not have cleaned SL totally from your computer. Make sure that the Second Life program folder in C:/Programs folder is deleted. And do make sure that the SL user folders on your computer in the C:/ Users/Yourname/Roaming/ and C:/Users/Yourname/Local/ are deleted too. Then restart your computer and install SL again. Let's hope that was the problem.
  24. Hi, In the preferences you can reduce the bandwidth, however SL is set to a minimum of 512 kbps for a reason. 512 Is about the lowest SL needs, but you can try 400 and see if SL still works for you. Be aware that SL is a bandwidth monster. I used about 60 Gig per month when i was online every day for a few hours, but i had set my bandwidth to 1000 - 1200. Should i go back to 512 i would still have used about 30 each month. Two Options: upgrade your internet plan to or reduce your time online. Indeed don't listern to media at all in SL too to save kbps anyway in your case. Good luck.
  25. Lets just keep thingies practical oki?
