Okay then I'll say it, the person's profile of which they gave an example, has the exact same name as her avatar page. Unless her RL name is exactly the same as her SL name, I don't see how that's a very good example. Interestingly enough, right under her name on the page it says "Fictional Character". How that makes a difference, I do not know. ...Dres

  3. Moderation is the other issue, or at least an other issue. It's gotten to the point that it's virtually pointless to even try to have a decent discussion here. The very moment there's a disagreement and someone shows the least bit of attitude posts are being redacted or completely wiped out. I do think threads that deteriorate into verbal fist fights should be frozen (with a post from the moderator as to why), but only as a last resort. Frozen, not erased. This attempt to keep the forums squeaky clean has scrubbed off any sense of character it could have had. Who wants to spent time in a bleach inundated, stark white room with no place to sit down and get comfortable? But I suppose this really isn't the thread for this discussion. I'd suggest starting a thread about the moderation, but what would be the point? Have any of the other ones done much good? ...Dres PS. The decision to create an off topic forum to use as a general discuss forum, instead of having an actual GD forum (like most of us wanted from the start) was just ridiculous imo. It should be relegated to threads that, indeed, go off topic... a place that moderators can send people to when a thread goes astray. Basically a garbage dump... instead, we have a forum that's slowly turning into a social wasteland. ETA: a short sentence.

  5. I like the thought of a catch all type of help forum. But Answers is a mess, even though they are in the process of trying to make it more usable. I think you might have the right idea... just scrapping it and starting over with a forum based Q&A might be the quickest easiest way to fix it. I just don't see that happening. ...Dres

  7. Wow! what great advice! Do you mind if I copy it into a notecard to give to the next fool that comes on to me? ...Dres *wonders if it would be worth changing all the shes into hes and hers into hims*
  8. Too bad inline images aren't... I just added it to the CTUG agenda. But at least some progress has been made... took 'em long enough. ...Dres
  9. It strikes me as funny that most people say they'd rather be left alone, then, at the same time, if you ask a merchant with a greeter that spams you with LMs, group invites and all that, they say that it actually works. I remember one conversation I had with a merchant that used one of those instant drop down menus to invite people to his group, and he told me that, since he put it in, the people he's had join his group grew exponentially. I guess the same could be said for television commercials. Which leads me to believe that this kind of thing is never gonna stop no matter how many threads are started about it or how many people say they hate it. Some things you just have to learn to live with. If everyone were like me, it wouldn't work at all because I click ignore on those things faster than I can spit. ...Dres *can't really say how fast he spits* I always swallow. :matte-motes-delicious:

  11. You can give it to them under a licensing agreement... that's what most full perm texture merchants do. Watermarking won't stop them from giving it away, or selling it, but it will help you prosecute them if you find out about it. You can Google it and probably find a bunch of tutorials on how to do it in the graphics program of your choice. ...Dres
  12. I'm not blaming LL for adding features, I'm blaming them for not notifying TPVs when they found out about this specific issue, so that way they could take the steps to correct it before things went wrong in the first place. And LL does, indeed, have backward compatibility issues. LL's own 1.23 viewer will never render avatar physics correctly and that will never be fixed. Phoenix, on the other hand, just put out their latest release which does fix the issue. Oh and another price you pay for the benefits of using a TPV is that you can actually get decent support when things do go wrong. ...Dres
  13. Here's my idea, merge: Your Avatar/Fashion into Your Avatar Favorite Destinations/Mainland into Your World Make Friends/Lifestyles and Relationships/Roleplay into Your Community Events/Music and Entertainment/Sports into Your Entertainment or Your Events Then change: Forums, Blogs, Answers and Knowledge Base Feedback into Your Criticism Off Topic into Your Off Topic (and don't matter) Okay, the last two were a joke. But you get the idea... that cuts them down by half. ...Dres
  14. Because Phoenix is based on V1 and V1 is not the cause of the issue, the changes made in V2 is what caused it. LL knew about this issue for months now and they didn't inform TPVs until a short while ago. How is that the Phoenix Viewer developers fault? ...Dres
  15. Welcome to the forum Bradley, I'm truly sorry if the scenario you describe is actually happening to you (you could be lying, considering the topic you chose to post this in). Here's a link to a page about harassment on the SL wiki and what you can do. Report every single incident of harassment from this person; mute this person and don't ever talk to this person again. If they get no reaction from you they will eventually become bored with you and move on. If worse comes to worse, you can always create a alternate account and start over. By that, I mean, new friends, new hangouts, new everything... make sure nothing can be connected back to you're original account. This is only for very extreme cases. Hope this helps... Dres Edited for spelling.

Role playing is a whole different level of lying, its more make-beleive Some people roleplay a different RL, if you can't handle that then, I agree... you should leave RL out of the equation entirely. ...Dres
  17. SL Freebie Hunters is my favorite. It covers a lot of hunts, with pics of every single thing so you only have to hunt for the stuff you really want. As lazy as I am, and as much of a wreck as my inventory is, it's a godsend. The amount of work that must go into an endeavor like this is commendable and greatly appreciated. ...Dres
  18. Squishy, squashy, what's the difference... lol. Glad you got yourself all fixed up. Cheers... Dres
  19. Here's a few sites for you: http://twistedhunt.com/ http://slfreebiehunters.blogspot.com/ http://macabrehunt.blogspot.com/ Have fun... Dres ETA: Also, keep your eye out for hunt signs while you're hunting. Most stores are involved with more than one hunt at a time and you may see one you weren't aware of that you would find interesting.
  20. Wow, it's gorgeous. I definitely need to make my way over there to check it out; and I'll drag my sister along, she'll love it. ...Dres
  21. You might want to disable VBO and see if that helps. I don't understand the specifics of it but some systems can't handle it very well (on the newest release of Phoenix it's turned off by default). Go to Preferences/Graphics click the Hardware button at the bottom right; in the window it pulls up unclick "Enable OpenGL Vertex Buffer Objects". You can check your bandwidth at speedtest.net and set your bandwidth in your viewer, as Luc said, to something a little lower than what you get from them. If you're running windows, you could also try getting Ccleaner and running a clean and a registry fix. Then defragment your system, for this I use Defraggler. Both of these programs are available here. If you are still having problems, you might want to talk to someone in the Phoenix Viewer Support group. They're usually very helpful, and if there's not someone that can help you when you first ask, keep trying... eventually someone will be on that can assist you. And it's free, don't get me started about LL support... lol. Good luck... Dres ETA: I almost forgot, make sure your system and drivers are up to date; and while you're at it you might want to check for malware and viruses. It's always good to do these things anyway.
  22. Which version of Phoenix are you using? If it's not the latest version (1.5.2.1050) I suggest updating to it. I know there were some issues with texture rezzing in some older versions and this could be what you're experiencing. Here's the site: Phoenix Viewer. Hope this helps... Dres ETA: Also, the Phoenix Viewer Support group is a good place to ask about things like this.
  23. If a card is too new, the viewer won't recognize it and will automatically tell you it's not supported. It's safe to just hit okay or no or whatever to get past that and continue loading the viewer. Once you log in, you'll want to go to the Graphics tab in preferences and adjust it accordingly. It will probably be set to low, simply because it doesn't know any better. Hope this helps... Dres
