  1. I guess I mistook what you said... I do agree, be adult. But please, don't stop pushing boundaries. I want us to have adult conversations here (I don't mean lewd). If no one had ever pushed the mods to let up a little, we'd be living in disney **bleep**ing bleach land. That could be fun, but it could also get old really quick. Cheers... Dres
  2. Have you lost your mind? Why should anyone ever stop pushing boundaries? You must be boring as hell... no offense. :matte-motes-kiss: ...Dres

  4. I like to think the best of people and I have a certain respect for Scylla as I do you Peggy. Who am I or even you to question her purpose in posting something that I would never have posted myself. Do you honestly think she doesn't care about what goes on here? I mean if ** redacted** is really trying to manipulate the forum from afar, shouldn't that be of some concern? (Tbh, I think it's all made up... by **redacted**) but what if it's not? ...Dres *doesn't think he has the influence he thinks he does*
  5. Dillon Levenque wrote: Funny you should have posted to this thread, Deltango. There was a mention in the quoted post about how things have descended into 'ungrammatical crap' or words to that effect and I immediately thought of how much better the fora* are now than the GD forum I remembered. One of the chief reasons is the fact that I see so much more of you here than I recall from the old GD (and your grammar is above reproach). Maybe you posted just as much on the old GD and your wheat was hidden by the clouds of flame-war chaff. Dillon Levenque wrote: I too am very happy with the current state of affairs. I don't have huge problems with the PG rules. I will say that there was no reason whatever the Richard anti-furry rant should have been pulled; it was amusingly done. There were even pictures to point out the irony in case those who can't read so well didn't get it. Aside from that this is such a better place than the old GD. There are Lindens here! Lots of them, actually (and I still think Scylla's 'Phone Home' thread was a mover in that regard). We feel connected; we're not just floundering around. I like it here. I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me... like a fungus... lol. ...Dres

  7. It's very possible to have a conversation with someone that doesn't voice but has voice enable. I wouldn't dream of ignoring someone simply because they aren't voicing, I always look at chat in that case. If they don't have voice enabled at all that's a different story altogether, there's just too much that they'd miss. I've known people that didn't care if they couldn't hear the conversation, but it always bothered me because I felt like they were being left out, even though they said they don't care. It can be quite a conundrum being stuck between the two. I've seen people get bullied into turning on voice when they didn't want to, and even voicing themselves... to be honest, that's why I first started voicing (damn you Noel), though I was probably more predisposed to doing it than some. I wanted to voice, I was just afraid to. I've always been self-conscious of my voice... I can't tell you the amount of times I've been referred to as ma'am over the phone or at the drive-thru (though it can be quite amusing to drive around grinning, with facial hair). Seems through SL I actually sound like a guy... surprised the poop ("**bleep**" avoidance) out of me... tbh. ...Dres
  8. Void Singer wrote: I almost never mistype chat to the wrong window If only I were so lucky... lol. Honestly, I don't either, but when I do it's usually a doozie. Once I was talking to a friend and accidentally posted to the Emerald Viewer group something like, "You think that's gross, when the girl urinates (I used another word though), my little boy runs up and laps it up like he's drinking from a **bleep**ing water fountain." That went over well... lol. ...Dres Btw: I was talking about my dogs.
  9. The main point of my idea is that it might prompt people to actually read it before they post... if nothing else I think it might help cut down on incorrect topics being posted, not illuminate them... which just stashing it away doesn't really accomplish if you think about it. ...Dres
  10. Yeah... doesn't have to be a pop up, maybe just a redirect page... especially when people can block pop-ups. Then, the problem is... can it be done? I have no idea what can be done with the Lithium software. It certainly wouldn't stop people from posting things here that shouldn't be. But I think it would probably help more than sticking it in a sidebar with even less of an explanation as to it's intended use, as it is now. It was just an idea off the top of my head. ...Dres
  11. I love voicing but I believe there are times when it's appropriate and times when it's not. I like voicing in private with friends that also like to voice, but stay away from voicing in public most of the time. I do get that most people aren't interested in other people's conversations, plus you don't have to censor yourself when it's private (and you can make fun of people without them hearing... lol). There are times when I refuse to voice. Like when I'm at a club or seeing a live musician, in which case it just gets in the way of the music. I don't even like DJs voicing over music but that's another issue altogether. I've tried voicing while being intimate and while it wasn't horrible, I didn't really care for it. It changes the dynamic of how the scene is played out in a way that doesn't really work for me... I won't go into specifics (I know... you're welcome). Then there are times I refuse not to voice, like when I'm building or shopping or SL hunting with someone else. Doing something where I have to communicate while moving things around, whether it be prims or textures or my camera or myself, I hate having to stop what I'm doing in order to type out what I have to say. I absolutely suck at multitasking. At the one job I had in SL, working as a managing editor for a magazine, we always used voice. The amount of information we had to discuss would've made it impossibly tedious without it. I wouldn't have wanted it any other way... even though it did lead to the most embarrassing moment I've ever experienced in SL. Again, I won't go into specifics (once in the last forum incarnation was enough... believe me). ...Dres
  12. I find that what looks really hot on a guy is me... lol. Seriously, just wear what you like... be yourself. I know that's not a lot of help, but really only you know what will suit your character. Here's some links to menswear blogs that can give you a good idea on what's available: (ir)regular guy Fade to Grey Stylish Man Men's Second Style I know some guys that will look at the blogs, find an outfit they like and go buy the whole thing just as it is. That might be a good way to get you started... then once you have a few outfits under your belt and in your inventory you can start mixing elements and creating your own. Just have fun with it and don't take it too seriously... it'll be your personality that's the real selling point anyway. Hope this helps... Dres ETA: the last paragraph.
  13. Qwalyphi Korpov wrote: You need to have people see it to get reactions beyond the group that looks here everyday. Who cares about the reaction of people that don't look here every day... lol. Seriously, here's my thought: I don't know if something like this is even possible but if so... set it up so that when someone clicks the Start a Thread button a disclaimer pops up stating the purpose of the forum and requires the person to click a "Continue" or a "Cancel" button. That might clear up some confusion before a person posts here, even if they haven't previously paid attention to what exactly is it's intended purpose. Just a thought... Dres Edited to change a few almost insignificant things.
  14. Marianne Little wrote: Yep, but I was over with my male alt and tried a demo. I could not see a version without chest hair. While I really like some chest hair, this was not what I want my male 'toon to wear. I like him to look like Marianne's brother, uncle or father so often he's in dark blonde or light brown hair. And the chest hair here is a solid black with white hairs in. Offer options, designers... because I'm picky. No matter what gender I shop for. Another example why designers need to start making skin bases and sell the extra layers separately as tattoo layers. Whether it be makeup, facial, head base and body hair options or even freckles and things like that. Why should I go spend 2000L on the same skin with one photoshop layer of a different facial hair? Why not just sell me the layer as a tattoo layer for 200L instead? If I can't get it from the person that sells my skin I'll get it somewhere else, even though it may not be exactly what I want, so they're missing out on sales. Of course, this argument will make more sense after everyone has switched to V2 code base and can wear multiple tattoo layers, which will be happening very soon. ...Dres
  15. You can try running Firefox in safe mode and see if it helps. Click Help/Restart with Add-ons Disabled. It could very well be an add-on that's causing your problem. If it works well in safe mode then you may want to disable all of your add-ons (you can do that through the Restart with Add-ons Disabled menu) them add them back one by one until you find the culprit... I've had to do that once before with the previous version. It's a pain, but that way you probably won't have to reinstall it. Also, run Ccleaner or something comparable, defragment your system drive and make sure windows is up to date. This can help and it's a good thing to do anyway. Then if you get it running correctly, install MosBackup, and create a backup with it... it can really come in handy. Although, it may not have helped in this case (if the problem is being caused by an add-on that doesn't get along with the newest version) most of the time it's a big help when things go wrong. Plus it saves your settings and favorites, which for me change a lot, so I usually back it up pretty often. Hope this helps... Dres
  16. I use Firefox and haven't had any problems with it since 4.0 came out. I did have an issue once before... I think it was an add-on I tried out that screwed something up, but I was able to restore a backup I made with MozBackup and it's been fine ever since. I like it much better than IE, especially because of the customization ability. I especially like being able to use Cerise's scripts for the SL Forum... I believe they work with Chrome as well. I've tried Chrome but really haven't used it enough to form any sort of informed opinion about it. ...Dres

  18. Sorry to hear about that, you might want to check out 2ndHub, I hear a lot of SL people went there after having their FB accounts deleted. I created an account there but I never use it (don't quite know how and don't feel like setting aside the time to learn). Also, I'd like to take this opportunity to tell you that I love your blog. You've really made me think of some things in a completely different way. For that, I thank you. ...Dres
  19. While I can point you in the direction of a specific skin, I can tell you that I've been in the same position as you and had to search for a long time until I could find just the right skin. I wanted to still look like me, only better... not an easy thing to do. I had to try on a whole hell of a lot of skin demos from a whole hell of a lot of creators until I found the right one. Different skins may look great or not depending on the shape of your face, no matter how well they're made. And when you add the criteria that it needs to still look like you, which can be a highly personal thing, it gets even harder. It's much easier to shape yourself to fit a skin than the other way around, but it can be done, it just takes time and effort. As I don't look much at women's skins, I haven't noticed the painted on lashes thing. But it doesn't make sense to me to make painted on lashes the only option. In these times, when you can add layers upon layers to your face to make yourself up the way you want, wouldn't skin creators do better to created basic no add-on skins then sell separate tattoo layers for the makeup (which is what I'd consider painted on lashes)? That would be a trend I'd like to see become more popular. What I have noticed about some women's skins is those painted on slightly open mouths, teeth and everything... that's just ewww... creepy. As far as freckles, I know there are places that sell freckle tattoo layers, so that could be an option if you find something suitable without the freckles. Wish I could be of more help. Good luck... Dres ETA a couple of other things I thought of: If you see a skin that's decent but you think to yourself it wouldn't look right, try it on anyway. The way a skin will look on the shape of the model's face will not look the same way on yours and you can't tell unless you try it. And don't be afraid to play around with the eyebrows. Different eyebrows will need different shaping to make them look they way yours did... that might make all the difference in the world.
  20. Isn't imitation the sincerest form of flattery? Just kidding, it's definitely against TOS to try to represent yourself as someone else [link... look at 8.2 (ii)]. AR them immediately (link), don't tell them, don't talk to them about it, in fact don't talk to them at all... this will only cause drama. Good luck... Dres
  21. theconfidant wrote: The moderation may appear heavy on this forum, but to me the other fora seem to be about ego and on-going flame wars. We did a blog post today about an incident on SLU--I don't think anyone cares for animadversion responses laced with invectives. Many people left GD for SLU because of the nastiness that was perceived on GD. I think it exists on other fora more than in GD. I also think the moderation here has gotten a lot better in past weeks. TC I agree, I do think the moderation has improved... I still like to complain every now and then. Especially when I finally felt I wanted to say something and the thread gets locked... oh well, I'm over it. See how easy that was... lol. Though, I suppose it's better to have a thread locked early on rather than let it deteriorate into a fist fight only to have it removed completely. And I do appreciate having an explanation posted as to why. The SLU incident of which you speak is a prime example of why I choose not to post there very often, even though I like following some of the discussions that take place. The nastiness that sometimes ensues there makes me appreciate this forum all the more. ...Dres *wonders now what TT stands for*

  24. Actually, it is... *looks up to make sure*... yep, that's what it's called. So what if it's just because of consolidation I for one am grateful it's back. I think it might help give more of a community feel to the place, but that's yet to be seen. @ the OP in answer to your questions: I can only speak for myself, this was the first forum I've ever participated in and even with all it's faults, it still feels like home to me (well, as much as a forum can feel like a home). I've posted in other forums and still will if I feel the need or have the time. Different forums have different feels to them depending on the participants and level of moderation. I do wish we had a bit more leeway as to what and how we can discuss things here. I think that's driven a lot of people to other, less heavily moderated places. (I personally think we should be able to argue about something without being shut down or redacted just based on the tone of the conversation. We can't even have a "spirited" discussion anymore. Seems like "almost" violations and "could become" flaming is enough to get a thread closed down now-a-days.) But then some unofficial forums (which I won't mention but were on your list) could use some stricter moderation and not as much blatant favoritism. Otherwise I might spend more time there, since you can actually have a discussion... that is until the regular crowd starts dropping f-bombs on people with whom they disagree. It's too soon to tell how having the GD back will effect my participation and I certainly wouldn't speculate about anyone else's. But having it back has got to be an improvement over what we had before. ...Dres
