  2. What I'd like to see is a web base text chat feature, that way you don't have to download anything to be able to talk to people in-world. There used to be a third party one, Ajaxlife, but LL did away with it for some sort of security issue I'm not savvy enough to understand. If LL would do it themselves I'm sure it wouldn't be the same. I just don't think the call for it will ever be enough for LL to set aside their limited resources in order to develop it. Too bad though, it would have been nice. ...Dres

That is a silly myth While I haven't had any problems with it, it most certainly is not a myth. It's well documented that this is one of the advantages of DSL over Cable. I only have to assume most of my neighbors aren't using the internet very much. Goddess forbid they'd all be using it as much as I do, because I'm sure I would be having the same issues as Kascha. I consider myself very lucky. ...Dres
  4. Wow, that's seriously messed up. I have Cox Cable and consistently get 28Mbps when I test. Something had to have been wrong. I used to have DSL through AT&T and, let me tell you, once I got cable there was a noticeable improvement in speed. That plus it hardly ever goes out, like my DSL was always doing. I don't think I'd ever go back unless I was forced. ...Dres
  5. Those damn assterixes. That's just crazy. ...Dres
  6. Ellie Oddenfen wrote: if I like them you can keep the skin. Um... SL doesn't work like that. Once you give the skin to someone, it's theirs and they get to "keep it" whether they post a picture you like or not. Just saying. ...Dres
  7. Undercity is rated mature or moderate (I think) in V2. The OP couldn't go there. ...Dres
  8. *Questions why you picked this forum to post this in* But anyway... You probably have to set your viewer to enable adult content now that you are verified. I assume you are using viewer 2 since you're fairly new. Here's how: Go to Avatar/Preferences/General the second thing down you will see "I want to access content rated:", in the drop down menu underneath pick "General, Moderate, Adult". That's it. If you don't see those options you aren't verified or it maybe it just didn't go through yet for some reason, in which case try restarting your viewer. Hope this helps... Dres
  9. A good imagination is also key to being able to entertain yourself. Just saying. ...Dres Oh and btw, show me two balls on the street and you can march me wherever you want. Err... did I really say that out loud?
  10. The simple fact that Facebook requires you to use your real life information when signing up, makes having a Facebook account for your SL AV unwise from the start. Many SL AV's Facebook accounts have been deleted and I'm sure more will be as they are found out. The only other option would be to have your SL persona linked with your real life existence. A prospect some may be alright with, but they are overwhelmingly in the minority. That being said, there are other sites around that cater to avatar socialization, which in my opinion would be a much better option. Avatars United was one such site, that LL bought then quickly closed down, saying something about integration of some features within SL (I don't remember the exact quote). This leads me to believe that the adoption of web based profiles is part of that process. Soon, as I see it, our profiles will start looking more and more like Facebook pages as more and more features are added. A much better option then relying on an unfriendly, out of network platform. After all, who really cares about SL except the people that are already in SL or thinking about joining. LL using Facebook to promote SL is a completely different thing. After all they are a real life company... and if it helps bring more people into SL, I'm all for it. ...Dres
  11. This was my first thought, but if Neurolabs want to make an issue of it they can. Do I think anything will come of it... not really. ...Dres
  12. I win, right? ...Dres ETA... I was replying to the OP... can't this software get it right... sheesh.
  13. Okay, if I'm getting this correctly, Pixlight bought the sculpt textures from Edge in order to create their product. If so, they may not even be aware of the issue between Edge and Neurolabs. In which case, they should be informed by Neurolabs and take it down until it's been settled. At least I would take it down... better to be safe than sorry. I'd also be concerned that they're giving something away in world while charging for it on MP. If I'm not mistaken that's against LL policy, unless something has changed in that regards of which I'm unaware. ...Dres ETA: a sentence
  14. However, if it weren't for creators that sell full perm things with which others can build, SL would be a much less well off place, as far as content is concerned. ...Dres
  15. Awww , thanks... glad I could be of assistance. You'll find, if you spend more time in the forum, that it's stuffed full of very useful information. ...Dres Btw... 15 layers are a bit excessive, I'd settle for 14 and a half... lol.
  16. Marigold Devin wrote: It doesn't really matter that SL will never be "conventionally accepted", for it is not a conventional gaming platform, and I strongly suspect that one of the main reasons for new people not returning after their first experience in SL is more to do with the fact they don't know what they are meant to be doing, and think there should be an aim, or clear instructions of what to do next. Its not a matter of being "tough", more a matter of having an imagination, and an open mind. This is the main reason SL is not more accessible to your "normal everyday person". In order to get the most out of SL you have to have the inherent ability to entertain yourself. Most people just aren't like that. Most people expect to be entertained and not to have to work too hard for it. Think of TV, or even closer, think of World of Warcraft. In WOW, you join and you have a set mission, kill people and level up or whatever (I didn't get that far into it). But the way you do that is set up for you; the place you do it is set up for you. You don't have to think of what to do, just figure out the best way to do it. And you certainly don't have to build somewhere to do it. This is not the case in SL. Watching TV, going to see a movie, going out dancing or drinking don't take that much mental input. This is what most people expect of their free time. Something to turn their brain off for a little while. And believe me, I enjoy that kind of entertainment as much as the next person. So I can understand the mentality. But at the same time I "get" what SL has to offer, that's why I'm still here. A lot don't get that, think SL is boring and end up leaving after a varying period of time. How SL can be made into something that more of the masses understand, while keeping the complexity that others so enjoy, is beyond me. As far as the OP, I believe most people that really "get" it will stay, griefers and all. ...Dres
  17. It's quite understandable that you didn't know about it, but promoting another site on these forums is against LL policy. You can, however, have your site in your signature, which I see you already do. There are a lot of ways to cross promote your business on the internet. Starting a blog might be a way to go. Facebook on the other hand is a sticky situation. It's against their TOS to create an account with an avatar name. So while it may be allowed to exist for a period of time, one day you might find your account suspended, thus making all the time and energy you put into it pointless. I'd hate to see that happen, so I just wanted to warn you about it. Good luck with your endeavors... Dres
  18. Whether it happens all the time or not, is not the issue of which I was speaking. When you buy something under the creator's terms of use, you are legally bound by those terms. If you get caught doing something restricted by them then you are subject to not only reprimand by LL, but possible RL legal action. I was only pointing this out because of what Rhett said about what he should be legally able to do. Personally, I prefer mod/copy/no trans permissions. Though sometimes it is nice to buy something for someone and be able to gift wrap it and give it to them personally. Still I would only do that with certain types of things, like flowers or greeting cards. Anything more substantial I'd rather buy through a gifting vendor or the marketplace. Especially with something like clothing where it's essential to be mod/copy for reasons others have already stated. Some merchants do go through the trouble to set up systems where you can pick which perms you want. I think this is the best way to deal with it... too bad they're aren't more that do it that way. ...Dres Edited to fix stupid mistakes... I need more coffee.
  19. When you buy something in SL you don't actually own it. You are paying for the right to use it in a limited way, as per suggested by the permissions and any other restrictions the seller puts on it. So no, you don't have the right to do with it as you please. Even if things are transferable that doesn't give you the right to sell it or give it away... like full perm textures and sculpties that are meant to be included in a build. ...Dres
  20. Thank you both... I got it now. Your help is much appreciated. ...Dres
  21. I recently purchased additional land on the mainland and raised my tier fee to the next level and I'd like to have more control over when my tier is taken out. I once read that you can put USD into your account and LL will take your tier from that before charging the rest to your CC. Is this the case and if so, what are the steps I have to take to do this? Thanks in advance... Dres
  22. Hey... no fair... lol. But this was two years ago, maybe it changed or they just don't like me. :smileysad: Of course you can have multiple premium accounts and get a stipend for each. I was talking about the sign up bonus and going by what I was told at the time. Again, two years ago. I hope they are giving it to each premium account now... I mean why not? L$1000 is like two something USD, right? Not that much to expect when you're paying 10 to them every month. And for what? So you can own mainland and get barely adequate, if even, customer support. Oh, what a privilege! Sign me up... oh, wait, they already did... lol. ...Dres
  23. Actually, there is a gay country bar where I live (New Orleans). Though, with my limited resources, I just don't get to go out all that much. The wonderful thing about SL is that if you can't find something you want, you can create it. I may just do that. ...Dres
  24. I just want to add that when I signed up for premium I was told I wouldn't get the L$1000 because I didn't do it soon enough after I originally signed up. It was a few months later. So there are restrictions on how soon you sign up for premium. Though it was a while back, I think they said a week or something ridiculous like that. I felt a bit jipped because that was never stated anywhere. Also, it's only for first time accounts. In other words, you couldn't create an alt, become premium and get 1000 linden. Unless you do something nefarious like hide that from LL, which I strongly recommend against. ...Dres
