  1. Welcome to the forum Syane. I thought it was funny as well, simply because it's pretty accurate (he did say most). Four plus years is quite an accomplishment, I would say you deserve a prize but apparently you've already got one. If I hit six months before things deteriorate I'm doing good. ...Dres
  2. Lmao... that's fantastic. So is your name btw. I always wondered where those screen captures are stored (not enough to even bother trying to find out, but anyway), thanks for teaching me something new. ...Dres
  3. That may not have as much to do with the way the skin's created as it does with the way the eyebrow settings in SL work. If you have a modifiable hair base on you can play with the settings of your eyebrows, if not make one and put it on. Right click your avatar and select "Edit Outfit", click on "Body Parts" then click the edit button on your hair icon. Go to eyebrows and play with the last three settings (the first two won't do anything unless you're wearing system skin which you're obviously not). Remember to save copies as you go. Good luck... 4. You think his shoulders are slumping? I think they're fine, though it's hard to critique someone's shape from just a picture. @Davier: If you plan on playing around with your shape a lot, I suggest keeping copies of it as you go. It's much easier slapping on your previous shape than trying to fix one you messed up. ...Dres
  5. I think display names were a great idea, especially for married couples that wanted to share the same name or people that didn't necessarily care for the name they picked in the first place. It was the implementation I had a problem with. If they were going to go through the trouble of creating a new naming system, there's no reason they couldn't have made it so that you could pick both a first name and a last name. Though I suspect it might have something to do with other grids being able to do that then link to their SL name (for ATMs that transfer linden to other grids and such)... I can see them wanting to put a stop to that. ...Dres
  6. Phil Deakins wrote: The reason why LL introduced display names, even though they didn't actually want them, was to attract people from Facebook. Facebook has a "real names" rule and Facebook accounts using SL names aren't allowed because they aren't real names. So people couldn't "link" their facebook accounts with their SL names. LL wanted people to be able to do that and, hopefully, attract people from Facebook, so they came up with display names, so that SL accounts would be SL names but people's real names can be displayed. Is this a theory of yours or do you know this for fact? I know LL can sometimes be strategically incompetent, but this seems a bit extreme even for them. That being said, it wouldn't totally shock me if this was indeed the case. One thing about new sign-ups after display names were launched... how much of that increase can be attributed to current residents rushing in to create new accounts, trying to snatch up names before someone else did? I would think that had a lot to do with it. ...Dres

  8. I try not to be so cynical. Certainly LL values creators, so much so they're trying to squeeze every last drop of value out of them. See how uncynical I can be? ...Dres
  9. Glad you're enjoying yourself. The learning curve can be rather steep here but as long as you're having fun, that's all that matters. Oh and everyone has TPed places they didn't want to be... happens all the time. ...Dres
  10. Looking good, Davier. Though I'm glad Marianne didn't keep her mouth shut. There two things that, more than anything, mar most avatar shapes in SL... small heads and short arms... especially on men. I'll be forever grateful to a very good friend of mine for pointing this out to me early on. Thanks, Noel. ...Dres Btw, your arms are fine... didn't want you to get the wrong idea from what I said.
  11. Randall Ahren wrote: Regarding paragraph #1 above, it goes a bit beyond poseballs. The poseballs merely provide animations and without an essential avatar accessory, the animations will look stupid as will your avatar. In addition, please remember that you are a man. Women prefer a strong, confident man that knows what he wants and goes after it. You're writing like you're a woman. Yes, don't write like a woman... write like a man ffs... *grabs his crotch and spits* See how easy that is... lol. Randall Ahren also wrote: Regarding paragraph #2, yes they like that stuff, some of them anyway. I suggest you take a field trip to Orgy Island, observe, and report back. Notwithstanding, what is it that you like? It isn't all about what the ladies want. Pfft... of course it is. Then, Randall Ahren wrote: @Willow, a freenis? OMG No! The first lady that sees that will laugh and he'll be traumatized for life. Now this could very well be. ...Dres
  12. Lexie, that's not the only one that's wrong. The "Forum Posts" links to... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/forums/recentpostspage/category-id/Forums/post-type/thread which should actually be the "Forum Threads" link. "Forum Posts" should link to... http://community.secondlife.com/t5/forums/recentpostspage/category-id/Forums/post-type/message Hope this helps... Dres
  13. Ahania wrote: And, if Second Life dies, will someone preserve the data, so that someone with greater interest and resources could decide to revive it, out of amusement if nothing else? Almost everything in SL has been created by it's residents, therefore it's the individual creators that hold the IP rights to most of the stuff here. Because of this, anyone wanting to revive it, as you say, would have to start from scratch as far as content is concerned. Just as any other world (commonly referred to as a grid) that exists now, such as Avination, has had to do. So if SL should die, every creator would then have to decide if they would wish to move to another grid, and if so, which one. There may come a time when someone sets up a system that will allow you to transport between grids and take your inventory with you to which ever grid you visit. This could open up a whole new world of possibilities and possibly even lead to the death of SL as we know it... of course this is just speculation on my part. ...Dres
  14. I agree as well. But think about what happens when a resident sells their land to another resident... LL gets tier from both residents for that month (well, not always... depends on the individual residents' tier levels). The same can't be said for other products. This leads me to believe LL has a much greater incentive to promote land sales in any way they can, hence the "special rules". Just a thought. ...Dres
  15. I think you're right... the same thing started happening to me a few days ago. Maybe another thing to add to the agenda (if only I could remember what else I was suppose to add... oh well, I'll figure it out when I really wake up). ...Dres *dives into his coffee*

  17. Not a chance... if you really want it back you'll need to pay, accident or not. They actually have a disclaimer when you go to delete an account stating as much, if I remember correctly. If I were you, I'd consider how much you had invested in your first account, then judging by that, decide if it's indeed worth the expense. Good luck either way... Dres
  18. Well that about sums it up... lol. Great job. ...Dres (I had no idea there were character limits in posts.)
  19. Maybe I should add it to next weeks CTUG agenda, if there even is one. ...Dres
  20. Dillon Levenque wrote: If none of us had spoken up; if none of us had complained, maybe that wouldn't have happened. My point exactly, if we had just excepted things as they were, we wouldn't be where we are now. That's what I'm talking about when I say pushing boundaries... I wasn't saying we all had to be a**holes, spewing out filth and vile. Peggy's right about the old forum, there was a lot of very mean spirited interchanges going on... we absolutely needed more human moderation. But there's a difference between pushing limits and just plain being nasty. I think Peggy may have just connected the two, which wasn't the way I meant it at all. I do wonder about the future of the forums now that (if what I've heard is correct) Amanda's gone. I think we are going down the right track, and that was the point of the original letter that was posted to that blog which contained the comment Scylla quoted in her OP. ...Dres

  22. It's not just gamers or educators (which I am neither) that can get a benefit from voice beyond mere socializing. Like I said in my previous post, having a job in SL that required a lot of information being passed back and forth basically made voice mandatory. Not to mention building things with other people which goes on a lot. I couldn't see doing that without voice. Although it can surely be done, just not at all as efficiently. ...Dres
  23. Um.. excuse me. I'm here because I love SL and I love the SL forums. Do you honestly think the way the forums were being moderated at the beginning of this new installation was adequate? Sure I refused to accept what was going on... that's not because I was just being arbitrary for the sheer sake of it. Do you think I should have just left right then? Just run away? No way... I stayed and tried to do my part to make things better. And I think I may have helped in some small way. If everyone were to ascribe to your philosophy, there would be no progress. Not here nor anywhere else. ...Dres
  24. It's about pushing boundaries.. they may not be the same institutions, but the principle is the same. ...Dres
  25. Um... what about the Colbert Report? Don't you realize? The man ate broccoli dipped in marshmallow cream... you can't top that. ...Dres
