  1. Oh cool, wonderful thread. Here's something I whipped up the other day, I needed something "springish" for my bedroom. It's not meant to be framed. ...Dres

  3. Ah... this, I didn't know. I don't speak German, even though I've been asked time and time again if I do because of my name. ...Dres *wags his finger at you* How very naughty of you... trying to get away with posting that nasty word this pristine forum. (Good thing I have my email set to receive full posts.)
  4. Raudf Fox wrote: Honestly, LL could simply get rid of premium at this point and just charge straight tier, given the quality of support that Premium accounts get. Yeah.. that's supposed to be one of the carrots, along side land ownership and a stipend, the use of the online chat. It's outsourced to people who don't really have the tools to do anything more than answer questions, using the info they find in either the knowledge base or forums anyways. A this point, the carrot wouldn't be big enough even if LL had a policy that favored the resident :matte-motes-frown: I've thought about this proposition before. It would certainly change things in a major way, though I'm not sure how this would benefit LL. I say this simply because if it doesn't benefit them, they won't do it. The only thing I can think of in that regards is they might be get more people to buy mainland property, thereby increasing their tier intake. Might being the operative word. Also, it would entail a complete reworking of their business model; of which, the case could be made, that this needs to be done anyway. The problem with that is it would have to be thoroughly thought out, carefully constructed and impeccably implemented, or people will be setting themselves on fire and rioting in the streets. Can LL really be counted on to smoothly make such sweeping changes? Doubtful at best. Furthermore, the question begs to be asked, if LL can't provide adequate support to their existing premium members, what happens when they're faced with having to provide it to everyone? ...Dres
  5. Oh okay, I get it. I was also wondering if you can explain how the settings for more than one processor work, which I might add, does work wonderfully. I'm just curious about such things. I figure I'll add one of my favorites, since it hasn't been brought up: I can't stand that obnoxiously annoying sound you get when you're typing and decide you want to backspace all the way to the beginning, then you hit the backspace key a few too many times (I'm always doing this). The setting for this is UISndBadKeystroke... you just wipe out the sound file key. I do this to all my viewers. You can also replace it with something less cringe worthy, if you have the key for another friendlier sound. I like the thought of doing this with the teleport sound (UISndTeleportOut), once I find something I like. Something like "Hold on Luke, we're in warp drive"... lol ...Dres
  6. Qie Niangao wrote: Instead, there should be a cap on continued charges. I agree that 30 days is as good an interval as any, so I think a reasonable approach is to limit charges to one month of Premium fee (about US$10) plus one additional month of tier ("additional" because tier is billed in arrears for the peak usage of the prior 30 days, so by the time there's a billing problem, tier is already a month in arrears). And that should be as far behind as a lapsed Premium can fall. After that, they revert to Basic automatically, their land is reclaimed by LL, and if they want full access to their (now Basic) account again, they have to pay that fixed balance due. This isn't that different from the current approach, really, but it removes the negative incentives by which the current policy discourages both new and returning Premium members. This seems like the simplest, most reasonable approach to this problem I've heard yet. The thing is, LL may not even be interested in changing their policy on this. Let's face it, LL hasn't been well known for their sensibility when it comes to making decisions. I have guarded hope that this may be changing. Even if this policy, or something comparable, is set into place, there will still be issues that come up and will need to be resolved on a case by case basis. This is why improving customer service is so important, and should be on top of Rodvik's to-do list. This emphasis on new user registration is wonderful, but what if LL were to put forth a concerted effort into providing their users with top notch support? Think of what that could do for their reputation. Though it may take a while to wipe out the negative perceptions they've inspired over the years in that regards, eventually, it could happen. Then people wouldn't be getting disgusted and pulling out of SL left and right. That and lower the damn tier fees, ffs. ...Dres Edited to change one little word... what can I say, I'm a perfectionist.
  7. Hey Canoro, Thank you very much for this. I do have one question... are these settings V2 specific? ...Dres
  8. Qie Niangao wrote: there should be no way for a Premium member to find themselves in a worse situation than a Basic member. While I agree, LL's delinquency policy could use a good reworking, I still think this statement misrepresents the issue. Whether an account is basic or premium, if, for any reason, you end up owing LL money, your account is blocked until you pay them what you owe. This isn't some double standard. Certainly, a basic member doesn't run into this problem all that often, but it does happen. I definitely think that, in the case of the OP, there should be some way that LL could drop her recurring bill from yearly to monthly. That way she could pay the smaller monthly about, then downgrade if she so chooses. That way her account would be in good standing; she gets to play; LL gets some money; everyone's happy... issue resolved. I see this as more of a customer service issue than anything else. This situation could have been resolved to everyone's benefit, if only the OP would have had the channels to work it out with LL. They were not provided to her. If Rodvik really wants to improve LL's reputation with it's users base, he needs to direct his attention to improving customer service in a significant way. Honestly, who wants to continue using a service with crap customer support? ...Dres ETA: a word.

  10. Dana Kosrae wrote: I understand that sharing IM logs violates the TOS. What I wonder is why. If I send someone a letter or email in RL, it belongs to him to do with as he pleases. If I have IMs sent to email, can I publish them, since they are no lionger in SL? In some US states it is legal for one party to a telephone conversation to record it without the others' knowledge. The recording belongs to him to do with as he wishes. It's always seemed strange to me that the virtual world had more restrictions on this sort of thing than the real world. Not in California, and since LL is based in California, their TOS could have been written to correspond with that law; though it's, admittedly, not really the same. If you think of IMs as private conversations, this makes sense. If, on the other hand, you think of IMs as email, then you might feel differently. I'd go with the former in regards to that. If I understand the TOS correctly (if not, I'm sure someone will correct me), LL can't do anything about you sharing or, as you said, publishing IM chat outside of SL. Though, still, I don't think it's a very good idea, unless you feel like dealing with the drama that doing something like that would inevitably cause. ...Dres
  11. Just have to ask... have you actually seen obvious bots on these properties of which you speak? Also, it occurred to me there may be another reason these places still have active bots... simply to make it look as if people are there when you pull up the map. Though I don't see that as reason enough to maintain an army of bots. Having never had a commercial piece of property in SL, I don't really understand the benefit of having bots, especially now that traffic is not a factor in search. Nor do I understand the detriment, except when, as pointed out already, they're using up sim resources. Maybe these merchants are just ignorant of the fact that traffic doesn't matter anymore. Just a thought. ...Dres

ROFL Good theory Griffin, thanks for testing it hehe....I sent a PM to mod to get that one off the list, I can`t see that being a bad word in any context lol Here's another theory (though it makes little sense, if any): It seems to only block the f.i.c.k part, so I looked it up at dictionary.com and it states "No results found for f.i.c.k, did you mean <insert word that replaces the i with u>". So maybe, it's just too close. Which is ridiculous... I mean, who ever heard of fu*kle? ...Dres *chuckles*
  13. Wow Cerise, nice script. This is how the reply button should work. I added this issue to the CTUG agenda and plan on being there. I hope you don't mind, but I might have to bring up your script as an example of how to do it right. You have no idea how much I appreciate your work to make this forum a nicer place to be. 15. Carole, I agree with you on everything you're saying about LL. I am not a LL fanboy by way means. You don't have to be Mensa member to know LL is one of the worst companies when it comes to customer service. But you don't have to memorize the SL wiki to know that when you have a recurring bill for a service, you have to either cancel it ahead of time or pay for it. Otherwise, it will be discontinued. That doesn't mean I don't feel for the OP because of what she's going through, I most certainly do. If this were to happen to me I'd be very angry. Especially, because after being a paying member for so long, I'd expect LL would be interested in working something out instead of saying... tough tits, your on your own. It's unfortunate, but this doesn't seem to be the case. LL knows full well that most of their customers are heavily invested in Second Life, both financially and emotionally. In which case, my guess is that they feel they can get away with the crap customer service, the ridiculous tier fees, etc., etc. They probably figure most people will put up with it, especially considering that there really is no decent competition... yet. It makes no sense, to me, to treat your customers like they're expendable and your not. Eventually people get fed up, take their money and leave. And it serves LL right. The only problem is that it also adds to the deterioration of our community, which is sad. But what else can you do? ...Dres

  17. You can all talk about what LL should do and how they should treat their customers all you want, and on many things, as far as that goes, I would probably agree with you. But the cold hard truth of what these people, whom you say are missing the point, are trying to point out, is that this is what LL does and that is indeed how they treat their customers. The simple fact of the matter is, a company can and will discontinue service if you owe them money. LL is no exception, nor do they differentiate between premium and basic members when it comes to that. I once had a SL boyfriend who was a basic member and for some reason, that I never fully understood, his credit card company reversed the charge to LL he'd made in order to purchase $L. His account was completely blocked until he could scrape up enough money to pay them back. In that respect, it's really no different than what happened to the OP. Do I think that LL could do better to come to some sort of agreement with the OP? Of course I do. If nothing else, they could make her pay only for what she owed up to that point, then set her back to basic membership. While we can talk about all of LL's shortcomings until we turn blue in the face, the point is the OP didn't cover her ass and now she has to pay... one way or the other. ...Dres
