  1. My acceptance or tolerance ends with hateful conduct directed at others. To which I include 'roleplay' that emulates such targeted at real-world existing groups. Things like the group: "Black Slaves for White Mistress" Things which violate this: https://secondlife.com/corporate/cs.php Tolerance of hateful conduct is just enabling and complicity, so that is the line I draw. But what people do for themselves and not against others - I might find some of it very distasteful, but I've learned to usually keep the peace on that - when I can remember to mind myself. Several folks here have lifestyles other folks here would consider self-dangerous, shocking, or repugnant, or whatever. If I listed the things that bothered me about other people - that would just be making needless drama that I would be in the wrong over. So instead I TRY to accept people as they are regardless of the things about them that 'squick' me as long as that aren't harming somebody else.
  2. You mean like - selling an item that has a no-mod copy of the script in it? First while I can't see why you would want to do that going FORWARD unless you altered the script... It will have to be OK because that is how all of the currently 'out there' product is. But it poses an interesting legal question of what to do if the GPL doesn't allow for this? There's got to be an exception for 'already released copies' of code.
  3. I'm usually nude in SL these days. But when not, my sense of expression is about expressing my perspective. Which is also something I do in my way when unclothed, albeit a little differently.
  4. I see nothing in the announcement that says only one version is going open source. Where do you get that information from?
  5. I didn't know Blue Mars and Cloud Party were still having people post on these forums...
  6. The beedable fad came and went in SL some years ago. I remember when the sims for them so so packed you had to wait to teleport in and people were renting 'wheelbarrow sized' plots to rez your unhatched ones for sale... But that was then, and this is now. I see some around now and then, mostly on marketplace or the odd neglected plot of land. But I don't see much that is new. And even the new ones I have found, are still sculpty. Did any of these ever make the transition to modern mesh? Are there that still have notable sized active communities of people involved?
  7. Cuts down on drama. Both that they have to read, and that peolpe 'psyche themselves up enough to type in'. A LOT of these posts are just people having personality problems with each other, misconfigurations on the seller end, or improper use of the purchase on the buyer end. The less people can type in... I am guess the less likely they are to 'flag' an item because somebody hit on their 'SL BFF' in a dance club while on a couple pose with another avatar...
  8. Your poor alt. What did he ever do to you to deserve all this blocking abuse. I think you make it up to him with some party time and a SHOPPING!!! trip. It would be very bad if people muted could tell you muted them. It would just make the whole thing a drama magnet. That said... if you want that drama magnet, in Firestorm you can turn on an auto-chat response to anytime someone you blocked IMs you, you auto-send them the snarky response of your choice, so they know to keep hassling you... On the whole option to see / not see people off of your parcel. I wish you could set a one-way option to see out, but not have seeing in. It turns it off both ways - which can be annoying some times.
  9. I went into a bit more detail on this back in Jan of 2016: https://catnapkitty.wordpress.com/2016/01/18/changes-over-the-years-journeying-through-myself/ On my thoughts on having an avatar not of my 'RL race' when my 'RL race' is also a very complex topic. This mixes into some of my other changes and thoughts over the years in SL though.
  10. One thing I will suggest is when you make an animation for a bento part be sure to NOT adjust any other bento parts or zero them out. I have a few great talking mouth animations for my bento head, and everytime they run, my tail zeros out into a straight line. Even running the animations without a script (this isn't a script turning off my animations, it is the bento head animation having values for the entire skeleton and not just the part it's animating).
  11. Since you all mentioned Filter Forge... I have seen it goes through 3 different 'last day is today' sales. 80%, 70%, and now back to 80%... They seem to have the same understanding of the word 'last' as the furniture shop that used to be down the block from me where I lived a decade ago in RL. A place that had a 'final clearance closing' sale going for about 5 years... There seems to be a massive feature jump when you hit the professional version, as far as SL needs would go - given that is the breakpoint for bump maps.
  12. The average height in SL has actually been going down over the years. When I first made myself "to-scale" I was a rarity. Now I would say about 40-50% of people are in my height range, and an equal number are in the older scale. That puts you in the middle. That aside... Furniture is made mostly for the old 00's scale. Get used to using that adjust button. For furniture at home... save your changes. If you want to go advanced... get the AVSit system (about to go open source: And use that system to make your own notecards for all the animations in your furniture. That is what I do, but it takes a LOT of work. For the simple solution; use furniture with a pose adjust button that also lets you SAVE your adjustment. Most modern stuff, as noted above, has this, as it is a core feature of AVsitter and a few other engines. PS: If you are serious about working on your proportions (which is unrelated to the issue you're having), I have a guide for that: https://catnapkitty.wordpress.com/2011/06/15/getting-good-body-proportions-in-second-life/ - Which is written to help you regardless of what scale you have.
  13. Yeah. Real Life businesses operate at scales where they eventually hire a customer support staff. But SL businesses tend to be one to small team affairs operating at closer margins (people aren't usually pulling in such vast amounts of sales that they can hire full time employees to answer phones, even at overseas wages). A lot of people don't realize that success can actually kill a business...
  14. Yes actually. I especially like when they put the animations in a hidden prim, or the 'shadow prim'. Then I can fix all the animations by simply moving that prim into place... I only need to go all 'play with the script kit and AVpos notecard' when they haven't done that.
  15. Even though I don't sell furniture, I actually bought this thing and most of its plugins so I could adjust all the furniture I bought with ease... as I tend to have to resize everything down to 70-80% of it's original size... (Everytime I buy furniture, I google something like "standard chair seat height" (18", or 45.72cm btw), or "standard door height" or 'standard counter top height" and then resize my furniture to that - using a resize script I have that takes numeric 'float' values down to several thousandths. But after I do this, I then have to fix all the animations.) So this script kit is very useful, even if you're not a seller of furniture. I have also used it to do things like make props that my furniture 'gives me' instead just auto attach to me, and to even change the props. I had one old chair with a funky prim/sculpty guitar - I swapped it for the same mesh one I wear in one of my outfits, using the 'rez it' version that guitar came with. - And I've used it to expand the drink choices on my coffee machines... Or to take my favorite animations from many different things, and put them into my favorite furniture designs. As sometimes the nicest looking furniture has all the wrong animations for my sense of style. Basically... it's a great script system. PS: If you own land, add the 'AVsitter' experience to your land, and all your AVsit furniture will work with fewer popup menus.
  16. AVSitter is going open source: http://avsitter.com/support#close
  17. So as you can see. A progressive cannot even make a call to find others to talk with, without all of you having to jump in and make "counter points"... to what for me, is just a post looking for others to group with. Don't any of you have your own spaces to be in, rather than having to invade others? Is your politics nothing but to troll those you oppose?
  18. So since this has turned into a mesh creation topic... If somebody was sitting on a copy of blender, and a book on getting started in blender. Assuming they first finished that book - or even if something different is recommended... For a person at day 1... what should I do if I want to learn mesh making for SL? Where are the top resources, of places to go in SL and join a class, or what have you?
  19. Real Life me is a mix of Chinese, Amazon Quechua Indian, Nigerian, Afghani, and Iberian. I started out in SL trying to look similar to myself, but my attempts just landed me in Gorean sims because that is what some people seem to think 'native american', 'inca', or 'inter-racial' means... All I could find in terms of skin tones was Caucasian - in degrees from pale to paler to 'makes albino look tanned'... Eventually I found other options, but that was after some time. I put on the first African skin tone after finding my Rasta self in RL. As a sort of self-exploratory thing. First reactions were things like "OMG a darkie", "It's black", and similar - from friends... who are no longer friends. I noticed my social reactions got negative, and I had fewer and fewr people talking to me. I got reactionary... so I tried this with a few alts: going around SL as white or black. And noticed a dramatically different response: that I could verify were not tied to any reputation I might have had. As the skins I found improved in quality, my avatar also took on a darker skin tone - and my social circles shrank... But I'm the sort of person who, when pushed, pushes back harder. Am I African in RL? No. Not Caucasian either. And I don't portray myself as a stereotype. Just as myself.
  20. I will tell you this. This topic wasn't about you. If you don't see me invading your space, why the need to always invade the space of others trying to form communities for themselves? Your attack makes the very point for why such a group is needed.
  21. hey are not liberals or progressives; and when they mix with liberals and progressives, all they do is become attack dogs against liberal or progressive ideas and ideals. I'm editing out my snarky list of what I do think of them... because this is not a topic for arguing this. But do note how... anytime a progressive or a liberal actually ever says anything - it's one of these libertarians that feels a need to come into that space and attack, challenge, or usurp the space for themselves.. As your post did. You make the point for libertarian exclusion from a progressive liberal space yourself by doing that invasion.
  22. Yeah basically... unless you talk to my low-mountain Amazon cousins over in Brazil, or some groups in the hotter parts of Africa - this anti-nudity this is pretty global. Polynesians and a few others used to be cool with nudity. But the Anglos and others smacked that idea out of them violently a century ago. And as much as people love to cart out feudal Japanese bath houses - that was then and not exactly now where the country is so super shy it is dying off from lack of people knowing how to have sex anymore...
  23. Weekly on Tuesday evenings I run a discussion group for talking about Progressive Politics / Liberal Left / etc. In conjunction with that, I've kicked off a new group: https://my.secondlife.com/groups/5c142c81-6e60-a7a8-a3f8-316b81ed0e5e Being new as of maybe an hour or so ago, not anybody there yet. But hopefully will get a few and then can be used to organize discussions, gatherings, and so on. So if you want a space in Second Life to talk world politics, political issues, and so on - without being shouted down by right-wing, libertarian, or conservative talking heads and points. If you want to get together with other progressives, liberals, leftists, and so on... If you'd like to talk politics but want a space where it doesn't have to be a fight. Join the group. And join the Tuesday meetings. Meeting announcements: And in both cases, I am always looking for topics to discuss to give it a wider perspective than my own.
  24. These are all cartoons on a screen. There are no women in SL. There are no men in SL either. There are just cartoons in a video game. Real world laws about nudity really don't directly apply. FCC rules about what you can broadcast also don't really apply because this isn't a broadcast. The ESRB might apply, but it is a voluntary organization. Technically LLs has no rules under the law over what it can allow for any given rating. It is all a case of what they decided would be fitting for their service.
