  1. My thoughts: LL would not want a third-party to provide a centralized index of it's virtual experiences. That would make LL a web-host and the third-party would be Facebook or Google. Forget the metaphors, Facebook and Google would definitely want to be the central hub serving up virtual experiences. Facebook owns the Oculus Rift and Google has Cardboard but will certainly be the search engine to find VR experiences. LL needs to have Sansar centralization ready when they open to the public. I don't know if it will be a Sansar search website, a global map like SL, or some weird VR interface that we haven't seen yet. LL also needs to control it but not like the way they control the SL classifieds or the SL marketplace. Those are terrible. On second thought, maybe Google providing a searchable list of Sansar experiences isn't a bad idea.
  2. Dear OP, the reason why it seems that most people in SL are into some form of BDSM is because you are spending way too much time in the adult sims. I suggest that you try looking for things to do in SL using your other head.
  3. The new thunderbolt 3 port will allow for an external graphics card. These aren't out yet. http://gizmodo.com/heres-the-box-that-can-turn-your-puny-laptop-into-a-gra-1724958260 http://hexus.net/tech/news/peripherals/85697-thunderbolt-3-external-graphics-demoed-idf-2015/
  4. The avatar looks nice but it's mesh so any modification of color would have to be provided by the creator of the avatar. Did you get a hud with the avatar? Those mesh avatars might come with huds that allow you to change the textures or colors but it really depends on the creator. I would IM the creators. I see they have listed themselves on the marketplace product description. In regards to clothing, the mesh avatars really need to have clothes designed specifically for them. It doesn't look like they have any clothes available except for that one starter pack. Check w/ the creators to see if there are any other clothes available.
  5. Designing IS fun. If you look at any blog on real life design like http://www.designspotter.com/ you'll see that the designers are constantly redesigning things like chairs over and over with new designs every time. You could make new chair designs over and over (if chairs are your thing) and sell them in SL. Learn to put in sitting poses and your ready to go. Figure out what interests you and run with it. Designing is only half the battle too. The other half is marketing. You have to take a good picture of your product, write a good ad copy that makes people want to buy your product, figure out what permissions to give, design a nice box to put the product in, build an in-world store, decide what sim to build it in, figure out how many of your product you need to sell to pay the store rent, write a readme file to include with your product, create an alt avatar to buy everything in your store, and more. And you can still go out and try working at a job in SL at the same time.
  6. I searched and there aren't any scar tutorials apparently but there are several tutorials on the web on how to make tattoos for Second Life. My advice would be to learn to how make and place a tattoo on the exact location on your avatar where you want the scar to be. Once you figure it out the next step is to replace the tattoo with a scar. As for creating the actual scar, you could take a screenshot of your body location, open it in Photoshop, and draw out a scar on a new layer using the color picker tool to select your own skin tones.
  7. My advice would be to learn to create stuff and then learn how to sell them. There is a creation forum and a commerce forum that you could browse. The commerce forum even has an in-world employment subforum.
  8. It may fall under the category of being misleading or causing deception. The relevant TOS section: 4.2 You agree to use an Account Name for the Service that is not misleading, offensive or infringing. You are responsible for activities related to your Account Name, and for keeping your password for your Account(s) secure. You must choose an account name to identify yourself to Linden Lab staff in connection with your Account (your "Account Name") which may also serve as the name for your graphical representation within the Service under this Account (your "Avatar"). You may not select as your Account Name any name that Linden Lab determines may cause deception or confusion; may violate any trademark right, copyright, or other proprietary right or mislead other users regarding your identity or affiliation; or any name that Linden Lab determines in its sole discretion to be vulgar, offensive, or otherwise inappropriate. Linden Lab reserves the right to delete or change any Account Name that violates this paragraph, and will have no liability regarding the use, modification, or deletion of any Account Name.
  9. You could chop it into 4 animations each under 60 seconds using whatever animation software you have. Upload them and use a scripted hud or device to play each in sequence. E.g. play dance animation 1, wait 60 seconds, play dance animation 2, etc.
  10. You need Photoshop, Gimp or some other program that has layers and allows you to save a png with a transparent background. As to realistic scars, do you mean burn scars or knife scars? Wild animal bite scars? You would probably just need to find good refetence material somewhere online.
  11. I don't think people will lose track when switching between real life and virtual reality. I think we would have heard of something by now. I do think that weak minded individuals could be affected but those kinds of people can be affected by anything.
  12. A kitten avatar? Wouldn't that be considered a cat child? But seriously, as said before, the land owner sets the rules. They can make up rules that are even stricter than the TOS. If you don't want to change then don't. SL has a lot of clubs. Move on to the next.
  13. I just read this and found it very insightful. http://kotaku.com/10-former-internet-trolls-explain-why-they-quit-being-j-1722649439
  14. I don't believe any of the examples are a breach of copyright except for the one where the painting is the only item being photographed and even that is not a breach under certain circumstances. http://www.cnn.com/2015/05/27/living/richard-prince-instagram-feat/
  15. It's possible that your stalker is using social hacking to figure out where you rented. They could be masquerading as a friend or as a friend of your room mate. The hacker could even be your room mate. You may have not told anyone your coordinates but you may have said something that could give the stalker a clue as to where you are or your room mate may have blabbed. Honestly, once you involve on other person in on a secret, there really is no way to make sure that the other person hasn't done something to compromise the secret. Also, if you like to meet people you should be glad that your friends know where you live. The more the merrier right?
  16. I heard that the new name for Sansar would be Robophiliacs Anonymous.
  17. You need a 'gaming laptop'. Theses are usually several hundred dollars over most laptops. From firsthand experience these tend to overheat when actually running graphic heavy games. If you live in a cold place, they may actually work well and will heat your room too. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Comparison-of-Laptop-Graphics-Cards.130.0.html This site gives you an overview of laptop graphics cards for gaming from high to low. Compare the card in the laptop to the cards listed to see if it is any good.
  18. I made one that seems like you are offering a kiss to someone but it animates a kick in the balls.
  19. Whatever LL decides better be good because they have said that land prices will be lowered in favor of taxing products sold in world. Ergo, a difficult creation process will lead to a small subset of creators and a smaller stream of revenue. I suppose this could be said of all the creation tools in Sansar.
  20. If you right click on the icon that launches the viewer and go to properties. There is a compatibility tab there and you can try to run SL in a Windows 8 compatibility mode.
  21. That doesn't seem like a bug at all. How do we close that Jira?
  22. I just installed Windows 10 from a Windows 8. It asked me if I wanted to reserve 10 a few weeks back. Apparently this preloaded the installer on my computer. I didn't notice this happening. Installation took around 20 minutes and it totally messed up on installing my Nvidia driver. It loaded an Nvidia basic adapter and the resolution was only 800x600. It looked terrible! So I let Windows try to update the drivers automatically and it failed! I went to Nvidia's website and downloaded the driver installer and it failed! It said there was a device update running already. I went to my task manager and ended anything that said update or updater or installer. There were several processes I had to end. The Nvidia driver installer worked and everything was gravy after that. SL works fine on it.
  23. Hey all, I was bored one day and made this image chart to show the steps needed to go from a starter avatar to a mesh body avatar or system avatar that can wear purchased mesh clothes. I censored out certain bits so hopefully this won't get deleted. I never really looked at the starter avatars this closely but it looks like the starter system avatars have glued on underwear and the starter mesh avatars have Ruth hidden underneath!
  24. I think LL needs to make their own and make sure it is better than any of the current mesh avatars out there. It needs to have a lot of adjustments to create a wide range of body shapes without getting all jagged looking. Maybe one for male sand one for females. Definitely made with fitmesh in mind so that clothing designers can focus and support one body model.
  25. Yes, the Dr Phil avatar with his incredibly long legs sets an unreasonable expectation that in SL you can create an avatar that looks like you. In the past, other shows have featured avatars that look vaguely like their real life users. Dwight in The Office had an avatar that looked like himself. Mac in CSI had a sorta similar avatar. OK it didn't look like him at all. The avatars for the 2 and a Half Men looked like the actors. It seems universal that in television shows, if a person is playing a game then their avatar looks like them. It's a tv trope that I think will always be used by the industry.
