  1. I debated with myself before making this post, and finally decided that it would be better to do so, rather than to just leave my friends wondering "Whatever happened to Lindal?" After 17 years, I'm leaving SL. A bit over two years ago, I took a year long sabbatical, then for the last year I've been active again. Now I am pretty sure that I'm actually ready to turn out the light, close the door, and walk away for good. I'm not mad at anyone, I'm not bored (or not completely), I'm not flouncing. Partly, I'm leaving because I realized I can no longer change with the times. The introduction of the new Senra avatars didn't excite me, it appalled me. Not because they are bad, but because now, if I wanted to keep helping newcomers, I'd have to learn a whole new thing...and I couldn't bring myself to even try. And it's not just the new avatars. Many other things, little and big, have changed, and I've noticed that more and more, the advice I give people is outdated. I'm not Keeping Up. Partly, yes, it's boredom. I got tired of constantly fighting my inventory, tired of taking an hour to put together a new outfit, tired of saying the same things over and over and over. Partly, it's health. My eyesight isn't what it used to be, and after a few hours, I can't see the computer screen clearly, no matter what glasses I use. And last month, I was diagnosed with a couple of blood clots in my leg, or deep vein thrombosis. One of the things that can cause this is sitting in one place too long, and lord knows, SL has contributed to that. The health issues really brought home that for almost the last two decades I've been living a large part of my life in front of a monitor. I don't have all that many years left, and if I don't want to shorten that time, I need to pay more attention to my health, as well as free up time to get all those things done that I've been putting off until "someday soon". SL has been a big part of my life for a long time, and it's been, on the whole, a very good part. I've done a lot of things, made a lot of friends, and had a lot of laughs. But now it's time to turn to other things. Thank you to Linden Lab for making this weird and wonderful place. And thanks to all you Forum people for making me laugh, teaching me, making me think, and being my friends. Have a wonderful life, all of you...both real and virtual. Love, Lindal Kidd
  2. If you bought an item and received an empty box, it could be a deliberate scam. You can Abuse Report the seller for Fraud.
  3. I think that belongs in @Madelaine McMasters's house.
  4. Where's the fun in that? Look at your influx not as an annoyance, but as a gift. You can use your gift in either (or both) of two ways. Greet a trespasser politely. You may find that you have found a new friend. If the trespassers don't respond, or respond like jerks, enjoy some target practice.
  5. Yes, that. You've mentioned your gear enough times that I picture your den like this:
  6. Not directly, no. As long as objects are simply in your inventory, they are harmless. However, some objects are NOT harmless if rezzed, such as sim-wide, self replicating particle poofers, or the "ExDepart" type of items that run off and hide and send out "gift" offers to everyone in the region, or objects that request access to your account. So if you choose to have your viewer auto-accept items, be careful when you rez or wear them. In fact, be careful of rezzing or wearing anything unsolicited that you receive, whether or not it was auto-accepted.
  7. Saw the cartoon, said to myself "That has to be from Orwar". Looked. Yep.
  8. It's not a misuse. But a lot of people forget that when they make a Pick, the Pick includes the location where they were when they made it. Or it could be deliberate, as Zalificent has suggested.
  9. @Love Zhaoying is a music creator, and he's a frequent visitor to these threads. Visit, heck. He practically lives here. And welcome, Bazzilla!

    upgrading tier

Your tier level only indicates the maximum amount of Mainland you MAY own. The amount you are charged is not calculated on your tier level, but on the maximum amount of Mainland you ACTUALLY hold at any point in the billing period. So if you are at the 4096 tier level, but only own 2048 square meters, you are only charged for the 2048. One thing to be careful of is when you want to change parcels. If you own, say, 2048 sq m. and then find another 2048 parcel you want to buy, you should sell or abandon the first parcel BEFORE purchasing the new one. If you do not, then for some period of time (maybe only a few minutes) you owned both parcels. That means that for that billing period, you'll be charged for 4096 sq. m. (The above examples neglect the additional complicating factors of the free tier you get for a Premium membership, or the 10% bonus you can get by owning land through a group, as these don't have a direct bearing on your question.)
  11. It's a region-level setting. If you owned an entire region, you could be an "event region". If you want to confine your venue to just a part of the region, you certainly can. You could hold a party on 1/4 of the region and have 100 people there (normal region) or pack in 175 (event region). But only if you own the ENTIRE region.
  12. July: Unprecedented ice consuming environment. MELTY!
  13. Hi Missy! The others saying "don't worry because only a jerk admin would kick you for that" are right. But here's an additional tip: Wear some layer-style lingerie under your clothing. That will rez right along with your body, so you'll never be nude despite SL rendering stupidity. Another method is to be sure your "naughty bits" are alpha'd out, underneath your mesh clothes.
  14. One more step in freeing avatars from the tyranny of their operators! (See the other recent thread on AI avatars for additional developments).
  15. No. Or not any more unsafe than the rest of the commercial online world. I'm thinking more of a site set up by a resident, as the OP seems to be implying.
  16. Even if the outside website is secure (and it seems that NO sites are immune to getting compromised), any user will have conflated their avatar account name with their RL name and financial data. Now the owner of the website knows who you are. Anonymity is lost, and there is a very real possibility for things like fraud, identity theft, and blackmail. I would NEVER use such a website.
  17. Both are upgrades of sorts. The neutering should help if he develops an enlarged prostate down the road; dogs don't have a lot of room for it. The gastropexy should prevent bloat, a condition that is often deadly. He came through the surgery with flying colors and is now resting quietly at home.
  18. I do this. Occasionally, it will turn out that I've directed someone to something that costs money, and they don't have any/don't have enough. I've always felt it was unfair to show someone something that they cannot have, so I will usually give them the money to purchase it.
  19. I need a HELLO! I'm holdin' out for a HELLO by the end of the night I don't care if he's strong, I don't care if he's fast He's just gotta get the greeting right!
  20. It sure is. Seems you can't even get in and out the vet's door these days for less than $200. But the Bandit's been saving things up. Today it's Teeth cleaning and other dental work X-rays of a leg that gives him a bit of a limp from time to time Neutering Gastropexy, a preventative operation to tack the stomach to the abdominal wall so it cannot twist and cause the dangerous condition called "bloat". We decided to do it all at once so he'd only need one set of pre-op blood work and one anesthesia.
  21. Don't get me wrong, I'm sorry that people have called you names. But I don't think you can take back things that others have said about you. THEY have to take them back. You can refuse to let 'em stick though, and good for you!
