Should more game elements be added to Second Life?
Cali Souther replied to Bree Giffen's topic in General Discussion Forum
I love Stardew Valley ♥ but, unless you have friends to play with - it can get lonely talking to NPC's... I have to give many kudos to Eric Barone/ConcernedApe -- he has provided excellent support over the years and genuinely seems to care about the customer satisfaction of his user base. LL could learn from that. (wink) I wish I could find more ways to be creative in SL ... but my lack of skills hinders me in that area. I've said before, I wish it was easier to build/create in SL ... but most do not agree (and I can understand how it would impact the "economy" of SL ).... I wasn't going to respond to this thread - so many like it and I've said all I have to say, but I had to give props to Stardew 🙂 -

I miss the Second Life of old
Cali Souther replied to Nimue Galatea's topic in General Discussion Forum
I miss the friends I had when I first came to Second Life. We came over from another chat program and had so much fun exploring and learning. It was a laugh a minute back then!! -

I do believe they can care about getting new customers AND care about existing customers at the same time. I agree, we need an influx of new to keep going and to grow. Cable companies are the best example of my peeve with the way a lot (not all) companies do business - I say these days, because customer service is at an all time low - at least in the USA. They spend ALL their efforts on getting new customers, do NOT take care of current customers, but if you leave they spend a lot of money trying to get you back! I don't think LL / SL is as bad as cable companies and cell phone companies (two of the worst @ customer service) .... but they do (based on all the posts I've read) seem to keep their distance, which makes some residents feel abandoned / forgotten / unheard.

Typical of most businesses these days, all they care about it getting *new* customers and increasing the bottom line. They figure most of us will stick around as long as things don't get too bad.

I’m a simple person. I can play games that allow me to be creative and all I have to spend is the initial purchase price of the game and maybe a bit more for DLC now and then. It’s infinitely less “complicated” and less expensive than my efforts (to be creative) have been in Second Life. Second Life is not a game, it’s a virtual world [ I understand that ] – but you still need to have things to do for it to be fun. Exploring other people’s creative efforts is fun, but not endlessly so…. SL tends to attract what I call Engineer types. Intelligent and talented folks who understand how to build and create in SL – (what programs they use along with SL is beside the point for me) and then there are the rest of us…. I was suggesting that, if we want to attract and retain people – it would be helpful if creating was simplified. If everything about SL was simplified and less expensive (to be honest). No you don’t have to pay for premium or spend a lot of houses and clothes … but that brings us back to … you still need to have things to do for fun…. being creative is fun for me, and I wish I was better at it in SL is really all I was alluding to.

Congratulations!! I've seen a lot of change in my years - but not as much as you have! Glad to see you are still here. Happy belated Rez Day !

even after 16 years in SL I need avatar help
Cali Souther replied to Riley Brinner's topic in Your Avatar
I've tried Genus, Catwa & Lelutka -- I like Lelutka best. I like the looks of it and the ease of use / the hud. You just missed a freebie for Christmas - they seem to give away a free head every year. I missed it the first couple times, so I really kept an ear out for it this year. I think Genus has a free head all the time .... but I could be wrong. I still ask for help too !! Good luck, hope you find something you really like. -
Clothing, for one, has become a great deal more complicated with mesh. I'm not an expert in any of this, so I'm not sure what other choices (besides Blender) there are - but everything I've looked at is a bit more complicated that paint shop. Building has always been more complicated in Second Life than it is in any game I've ever played - such as Sims. I do realize that if anyone could do it - everyone would do it - and no one would be able to sell their builds. I do, however, think - it would help retain folks in SL if the process were less complicated. Just my humble 2 cents.

How big is your block list?
Cali Souther replied to Stephanie Misfit's topic in General Discussion Forum
I have a long list of items I have de-rendered permanently - but I've never blocked anyone (avatar / person).... -
As the years have passed, creating in SL has become infinitely more complicated. It would be absolutely wonderful if it was easier to create and build - for those of us, who are not friends with Blender, etc. 😉
