  1. WTH... It was mentioned in the first post that other dev kits have been received within a few hours/days. So, of course, I am not talking about working on pirated dev kits but the ones that have been obtained legally already.
  2. For both kits, reach out to their CSRs. Maitreya is usually quick to answer. Responses by Legacy might take a bit longer. I couldn't figure out if you created anything at all yet. If you cannot show anything, that might be the reason why you didn't get a response yet. It could help to start creating on the dev kits you have already, then show your WIPs so they can see that you are indeed creating.
  3. Usually, the tours are hosted around the 20th. Which would be the upcoming weekend. However, there are so many SL community events happening/starting that I did not want to interfere with these events but instead invite all of you to go exploring these because they are part of SL, the SL history, the SL community, mainland, and so on and so forth. So here is what I would like to suggest to you to visit as a "compensation" for the cancelled Mainland Tour: SLB18: Second Life turns 18 (wohooo finally adult) and celebrates this occasion with tons of various events. Meet Lindens & Moles, enjoy live music, visit exhibitions, go shopping. You can find info here: https://secondlife.com/destinations/sl18b Sailstice: probably THE biggest event around sailing in SL. Exhibitions, performances, presentations, live music, cruises, races, pretty much everything you can think of to celebrate sailing & boating in SL. Find all info here: https://sailvirtual.com/?page_id=168 Next Mainland Tour will therefore be hosted in July. Enjoy the SL community events!
  4. I think that everyone here would agree that any kind of arbitrary bans would always be frowned upon. However, I would not want this feature of being blocked from purchasing as well when a merchant blocks your profile, was entirely erased just because of a few bad apples who abuse this to compensate their lack of anger management. I myself block rarely but if it happens, the reasons are significant. Depending on the case, an AR/DMCA would be filed additionally.
  5. From my experience, that is sadly a characteristic behaviour of people who don't want to cooperate but just protect their parcels at all costs, and aren't willing to reach out to their neighbours for a little talk so everyone could enjoy the surroundings. At one region, I have a neighbour who was excited right away when I suggested to work together to make the landscape of our parcels blending in. We have a really nice neighbourly friendship now which I appreciate a lot. If there is any issue, we just let each other know, figure it out and suggest each other a solution we all can benefit from. I experienced the contrary, too: neighbours who aren't willing to communicate at all, or if they do, then through showing their disagreement by, well, putting up walls or similar. I would usually reach out and try to cooperate / have a talk but sometimes, you don't get any reaction at all, no matter how hard you try. Not much you can do then. I refuse to let them provoke me to a level where it could escalate into a bad fight though. I use the tools that are provided (e.g. derendering) or just try to cover up with a few nice trees so it isn't too much intruding my view, and at the same time, still blends in nicely in the overall landscape at the region. For me, it luckily turned out often that such kind of neighbours won't stay forever. I can be patient
  6. There are still spots left for our Beginners drift lesson event. It is free, and cars will be provided. To give you a visual idea what D2/the DDC events are about, here are some little videos from our previous seasons with a few highlights:
  7. Have you always been curious about D2 scripted cars and the Daikoku Drift Championship but been hesitating so far? Do you love cars, speed and a good challenge but have no idea what drifting is about but got curious because it says "fast cars" and "competition"? Then this event is for you! We offer a D2 scripted car drift lesson for beginners on Saturday, June 5, 1:45pm SLT, including some theory and, of course!, practice surrounding the DDC events. Our aim is to help you getting started, and that you can hopefully make your first (tandem) drifts at the end of this lesson. 10 spots available, and cars will be provided. The event is at no costs for you! Cannot attend but want a contact? Use the form for it Detailed Info+Registration form: https://forms.gle/BkdC7NMYuURBhuVw5
  8. It certainly is possible, it depends on your budget though, as Rowan already mentioned. I saw prices starting at 5000 L$ for one animation only, and it might be even more, depending on how complex (e.g. extensive finger animation) it is supposed to be.
  9. This! Once the Bellisseria project is done, I hope that mainland gets some love and improvement in that regard again. Pretty please
  10. The tour will start in 1 hour! I also found a backup train conductor so we should be safe and have enough seats for everyone! For the horseback riding tour around Mount Campion, a horse rezzer will be available. So all you need is yourself!
  11. My personal favourite for meeting new people is exploring, and joining events of activities that I enjoy. And usually, everyone I have met had at least one good recommendation where I could explore more, join a community, find out about more events, and so on and so forth. In case you enjoy exploring, too, maybe the upcoming event hosted by BBB/Drivers of SL will be the right thing to start from for meeting new people while having a fun time. Information can be found here: https://lastditch.typepad.com/bbbgazette/2021/05/bbb-stamp-rally-in-association-with-drivers-of-sl-22nd-may-2021.html
  12. Well, you might not like it but she had a point there. On Topic: It doesn't matter how close your neighbours were building to the border. As long as they are still on their own parcel, they can put whatever they like along said border even if it makes you feel claustrophobic. On a sidenote: There was another thread not too long ago where someone wondered why she got her item sent back when she could not see it intruding her neighbour's parcel. It turned out that it was the bounding box that was a lot bigger than what she actually saw (a tree). Just a hint to keep such things in mind, too, if you rez out things that "look" within parcel lines but turn out to be actually not.
  13. If the parcel with the orb is close to a sim border, it can happen that with the delay while crossing the orb has already detected the avatar but the avatar/plane was not able yet to pass by within that time frame. So no, it is not always what they chose to happen.
  14. This is the most important if you want to find a place you love on mainland: take your time, and find out what you want. It has been mentioned already that land can also be bought as a group which gives the group 10% bonus land. I met quite a few people who would hold a small private parcel, and donate the rest of their available land to a group-owned community. I do that myself as well. If you intend to join a community, they can vary a lot depending on their goals. For example, residential living communities which are not only selling plots around their community area but offer various events for their community residents, from art&culture, to live music, to exploring together and so on. Or communities that have a certain theme, for example an equestrian community. Examples of such communities that I am aware of would be Moorcroft and Campbell Coast. Good luck finding the right thing for you!
  15. @Nalates Urriahalready mentioned a few things to consider but I would like to add something to it. If you are flying around and run into an orb, some really annoying things can happen, and I experienced them all: You just crossed a region border, the orb detected you already but you are not fully rezzed in yet so you are not able to cross within 10 seconds, and get ejected what feels like a 0 seconds warning. You get ejected out of your plane, the plane is stuck at a parcel border, automatic return to your Lost&Found folder doesn't work, so you have to manually delete it because you don't want to litter other residents' homes. In the worst case, SL acts up, deleting won't respond, and not even a relog can help. Eventually you have to ask the parcel owner to return it. You get ejected and teleported home by an orb. Your plane will not stop just because you got ejected, in fact, it keeps running and continues its way on its own. I once had it happen that after such an eject-teleport-home, I was unable to retrieve the plane anymore. I was searching in a quite huge area but to no avail. Since it never got returned, I thought it was one of those incidents where an item vanishes into the nirvana of SL to be never seen again. I was wrong. About 2 weeks later, I found my plane about 10 regions away from where the original incident had happened. So for 2 weeks, I littered someone's place, and a whole region with a still running plane. Not what you want. Neither for yourself, nor for anyone else. So yes, there are good reasons why such orb settings are a pain, and not just for the passing by traveller but also everyone else who can get affected by it unintentionally.
  16. Mark your calendars! Only about 1,5 weeks left until it is time again for the monthly Mainland Tour! We will travel along the SLRR Main Line on Heterocera Atoll. Our starting point is the headquarter of Virtual Railway Consortium (VRC) where every information you may need is offered if you wanted to become a train conductor yourself. We will have a quick look around, and then take a train ride along the SLRR Main Line. Exiting at the end of the Great Wall, we will be horseback riding along the public bridleway of the High Mountain Road. "High Mountain" is a promise because our next location, the Mount Campion National Forest, is indeed trailing around the two highest mountains in SL. Once we made it back from the summit, we will continue our way to Pavonia Station where we will hop on the train once again to head to our last station, Hiraya Town. Meeting Time & Location Saturday, May 22, 9:00am SLT @ Virtual Railway Consortium, Tuliptree, Continent: Heterocera Atoll SURL: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Tuliptree/89/155/30 Requirements & Hints It is highly recommended to strip down avatar complexity and scripts to avoid region crossing issues. We don't want you to end up being stuck at a region border A horse rezzer will be available but you are welcome to bring your own. If not familiar with Teegle Horses (rezzer), here is a quick guide to make your travelling life easier: https://yukiyesh.wixsite.com/mainlandtour/teegle-horse-guide The tour info HUD is also available at the Mainland Tour Office: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Sunstream/46/253/65 The travelling parts are longer than in the previous tours, most is done by train. Therefore, please expect a length of 2 hours. If that is too long for you, you can either leave earlier, or join at a later point. All you have to do for joining later, is to send me a message / TP request.
  17. The 3 or 4 times I experienced similar issues, were always due to a windows update and the antivirus programme restarting to scan SL. If not done yet, check your Task Manager once more to figure out if and what is interfering.
  18. Visit the Virtual Railway Consortium at Tuliptree where they offer lots of info but also freebies, one of it being a track kit. SURL: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Tuliptree/89/155/30
  19. I agree with all of that but would want to add that this problem is not only something on "creators'" (or "destroyers'") end. A lot of users just don't understand how things work because they are your typical common end user. All they see is the result, and if it looks nice, it gets purchased. On top of that, all those people buying are used to get new content presented daily. Many business owners also try to get a bit of the cake by offering quick & dirty releases for an apple and a dime. The end result is people who fell for the traps of greedy business people feeding man-made expectations. Worse than that, they are often enough not willing to open their eyes if you tell them how much they contribute to littering the grid unnecessarily by stuffing their inventories. I made that mistake of imprudent shopping sprees for the longest time myself, and it is only thanks to creator friends that I unlearnt that habit. Last but not least, there are creators like you who constantly try to raise awareness in their customers as well. However, it seems like you all fight your own battles, and so your important input gets way too easily lost. I am aware, it is hard to fight against a fast paced market when it would be needed that everyone takes a deep breath, takes a few steps back and focuses on creating optimized content, as well as making customers getting used again to be patient for new releases. I still have hope that more and more people are willing to gauge their purchases, and support those creators who aim for optimized content.
  20. The updated HUD to replicate the tour is now available at the Mainland Tour Office, including all landmarks+additional information notecards about the visited places, as well as some more spots that you can visit along the route. Mark your calendars already for the next one that is planned for May 22, 9am SLT. If you haven't been to any of the tours yet and want to get an idea what it looks like, here are some snapshots that I put together from our latest tour during which we also visited the equestrian Moorcroft community at the East Coast of Sansara. https://flic.kr/p/2kV1WfK
  21. There is indeed a lot to explore! So much that I won't be able to squeeze it all in into the tour(s). But I always provide updated tour HUDs after the actual tour at the Mainland Tour Office with all helpful info about the visited locations, and any other point of interest I could find nearby. So if you want to join the tour, consider it like a guided "sneak peek" with the intention to invite you coming back to the visited locations for exploring more on your own, and/or with your family&friends. Feel free to grab those updated HUDs to plan your own tours, and to go exploring with your new Mainland friends here. I hope, you enjoy them
  22. It is time again for the next Mainland Tour We will be travelling and exploring around Sutherland and East Coast on the continent Sansara. You can join the optional flight from Bellisseria to Sansara already. It will take about 10 minutes. Depending on the number of participants, the optional flight will be done by plane or by mini helicopter. The actual tour start will be at the recently opened Cannes Airport. From there, we will head over by road to La Croisette, a France Coast inspired avenue that offers various activities. Just next to it, the Abyss Observatory holds a few - and educational - surprises above and below sea level. Our trip then continues with mini helicopters to reach for the equestrian community of Moorcroft. Yes, we might be lucky to spot unicorns; this place has a touch of magic. Meeting Time & Location Saturday, April 24, 9:00am SLT @ Cannes Airport, Chicagon, Sutherland, Continent: Sansara SURL: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Chicagon/230/162/137 Optional Flight to start location at 8:45am SLT @ Coral Waters Airfield, Continent: Bellisseria SURL: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Coral Waters/100/150/24 Requirements If necessary, one group slot: I have mini helicopters ready which can be set to group so that others can fly it, too. Each mini helicopter can hold a pilot and a passenger. The pilot will need to be part of either the Sister In SL, or the KuddelMuddel group. The link to the latter inworld group can be found in the tour HUD which is available at the Mainland Tour Office: http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Sunstream/46/253/65 I have also a horse rezzer ready but you can also bring your own horse. This needs no group. Additional Info Remember to strip down avatar complexity and scripts to avoid issues when region crossing, so you don't get stuck
  23. What makes a good neighbour? I think, courtesy it is in the first place. And for most disagreements or misunderstandings, there is a way to solve it so both sides can be happy. My handling for my mainland parcels is: No banlines and no security orb (reason for the latter is that it happened to me too often that after crossing a region border, an orb even with a considerate set time would go wild and still eject me right away ). Since I don't hang out at my parcel all the time, I don't mind if people pass by while I am not even there. While I write that, I am however debating if I should rez out a guestbook, could be fun to read up their salutes Everything but editing terrain is allowed. Autoreturn is on. If furniture shall not be accessible for strangers, I set it to "owner only" in the operation menu. Chances are, it wouldn't be used 24/7 anyway so I can just change it back when I wanted that invited visitors/group members only were able to use it. If I ever wanted some private time and make sure that I wasn't disturbed at all, I would set up a skybox at a high altitude. I experienced uninvited visitors maybe a handful of times in all of my SL years so in my opinion, the risk is rather low. I would consider an orb only if the settings are for close distance solely. Both skybox+orb would be set up temporarily, I don't need the litter to stay For landscaping: before I buy land, I go checking it out to see how the neighbours decorated their places, so either it matches my own ideas already, or (if I see the need for it) I would reach out to them before moving in to find out if they would be interested in collaborating for creating a nice surrounding together. Also a good way to figure out if I can expect nice or rather annoying neighbours In general, I would prefer trees as borders because they provide privacy, indicate that it was a private home and still don't give an instant unfriendly vibe of "gtfo" (not referring to "get the freight out" ^^). Overall, I prefer to move into places where I can expect that my neighbours and I share the same ideas how to handle the environment. For testing purposes (scripts, particles, etc), I tend to rez out a building platform or skybox at a high altitude so I wouldn't risk that someone gets eye cancer from glowing laser beams or the like. If someone encroaches my parcel with their landscaping objects, I would only care if it had a negative effect on my plot. If it is just something like a little corner hidden below ground from a rock formation, I don't mind at all. I see that like RL nature where you can't expect the roots of a tree respecting your neighbour's borders either, and as long as it doesn't become a serious issue, I won't mind. I am aware that others don't agree and insist on the rules, and that is absolutely okay. In the end, rules are there to guarantee that we all play fair. I have my own agreements with my neighbours in that regard, and so far, we all have always been fine with it. 👍
  24. I find it pretty obvious that sending advertising materials without consent is against TOS. In the Community Standards, prohibited behaviour includes: And on the SL Wiki, spam is defined as: If you take this literally, you could probably see those group invites sent out upon arriving in stores at least as "walking on the edge" of what is allowed. However, if it happens in the store itself, I find it annoying but still somewhat understandable and tolerable. What really makes me furious is that one business group that obviously gathers subscription lists from all their participating stores to put people without their consent on lists for their events. Just because I subscribed to any of the stores which participated once or regularly at their event, doesn't mean that I wanted to be spammed with 10+ lines about their event every other day. That is also absolutely unprofessional. @Chaser ZaksI totally protest against your definition of what would indicate a consent by direct interacting. An obvious sign to subscribe: yes, of course, totally fine! But all other options, nope. Your proposed definitions of interaction that could indicate that someone "may want to subscribe" is in no way actual consent. You wouldn't make such definitions in other regards of life either ("She may want to have sex with me because even if she said No, she was interacting with me, so I will just flirt a bit more until she agrees..." - I guess that example makes it the most obvious!). I define such ideas as "aggressive, intrusive marketing", and I know that I am not the only one where these methods will only create a backlash, and people will avoid the store in question at all costs. There are more effective advertising tools to which people can and want to agree voluntarily, even happily. Think of all the Give-Aways. Not a personal fan of it, but it works, and people have the choice. Last but not least, I highly doubt that LL could implement these options easily because of all the legal implications it would raise in regard of GDPR.
