  1. Getting to Mars, landing on the surface, having people walk out for a photo op .. that's all easy. Known engineering and proven technologies. Not having the people die due to some trivial mistake, accident or oversight before the return launch window, really difficult. We're going to be sending supply ships for years before the people, so that when it all goes pear shaped (and it will) everyone doesn't die because of a bucks worth of duct tape.
  2. and you can put some of the faces inside the big face thats mostly hidden by the chip
  3. They both stand upon the shoulders of giants and the backs of their workers, proudly proclaiming they had made all this wonderment.
  4. I honestly have no idea how some people are really into driving and vechs in SL, they are borderline uncontrolable jokes on a good day.
  5. That wasn't the issue at all. Sansar was pointedly not made for us. It was for other, more desirable "high brow" users, rather than the weirdo pervs who call SL home (these other better users seemed to only actually exist in tiny numbers and weren't the kind of people looking to sink huge amounts of time into a PG virtual world .. for unknowable reasons). The VR dependency was a major limiting factor made worse by the complete absence of any in world social tools .. it's almost like they didn't want people interacting in any meaningful way. The load times were brutal, the experience exhausting and the creative potential entirely external. When people were in world, there was nothing to do, and barely a whiff of interactivity. We all tried it. We all came to the same conclusion after about an hour of use, and then sat back waiting for LL to add something .. anything .. to the platform that would be actually fun. Slow walking museum simulator, that pivoted into awkwardly stand about high school disco simulator. Entirely missing the point of why any of us actually log into SL. The technical package is secondary, the events and shopping and music venues are secondary, being able to meet and freely chat with other people without needing to self censor for fear of breaking the Disneyesque rules, meaningful personal relationships and interactions are what keep SL running. Habbo hotel was a more vibrant and fun virtual world, and it was garbage.
  6. Oh my sweet summer child. Who is paying for SpaceX .. Pappa Space Daddy ? .. Or the US tax payer, to the tune of billions of $$ Who is now the biggest money horder in the world .. who's money does he have .. his own? Are you sure ..
  7. NASA dunked on his idea because Elon and co had zero concept of what's involved. Believe it or not, you can't just go to Mars and expect to survive making it up on the fly. The amount of prep, logistics and specialist technology (we don't even have yet) required to do a simple moon shot there and back again is staggering. Growing food in Martian soil is a dead end, sure you might be able to coax something into life ala The Martian, but you wouldn't want to eat the result. The Perchlorates alone are a major health hazard .. and lets not even worry about the literal razor blade storms. We don't even have actual Martain samples to do a proper analysis on and the closest mission to return a handful of dirt is penciled in for 2026 Elon will be long dead before a person ever walks on Mars, especially if that person is expected to live or even return home. Elon is not a rocket engineer. He hired those and then denied them credit for their work by saying "these projects are all a team effort" .. him being the only visible member of the team. Elon didn't create Tesla. https://www.greencarreports.com/news/1131215_tesla-existed-before-elon-musk-founders-on-how-they-pitched-the-idea He did some initial funding, then ganked the entire company. Let's not forget there was the whole solar city debacle too.
  8. He was never going to Mars. That's all hype to fund a massive trial and error style development cycle.
  9. Making rigged mesh clothing. I just don't have the eye for it.
  10. Rewarding locations for traffic scores is how we ended up with camping and traffic bots. You can't have this and then complain about AFK people or ghosts. If you think that, you've not really been paying attention to what Meta and corporate visons of the Metaverse actually involve. They aren't talking about virtual worlds or 3D chat platforms (although that might be a part). The meaning of the word has evolved into a risk avoidance procedure, limiting the potential for individual failure by incorporating everything into the same over arching fold. The modern corporate metaverse is the Marvel MCU applied to unrelated brands and revenue streams. It's Disney World without the fun. LL did that. It was called Sansar and it had more staff than users, they sold it to another company who solved that particular problem by letting all the staff go. No one is here for the tech offering. We're here because this is where we chose to make and maintain personal relationships and friendships. This is where SL shines and there is no where else quite like it.
  11. I have a degree of ADHD and as a result overcompensate by putting extra care into my writing, it's not something that comes naturally and I do make and miss mistakes. I proof read my posts here several times, yet some pretty stupid obvious things will just slip though (especially when tired). Pointing out the flubs isn't helpful, it's just highlighting a blind spot I am all too aware exists and have struggled my entire life to work around. It is absolutely not due to a lack of care, attention or education. I spent 20 minutes on this. FML.
  12. I really hope everyone who's getting billed is getting what they have paid for. And if that's the case .. why aren't we getting paid? No idea.
  13. The only reason myself and others push the "build your own" line is we know what we're looking at when we open a PC. It's very easy to spend a lot of money on not a lot of actual computer and have little to show for it beyond a nice big name brand name on the box. As I've said, I've yet to open an Alienware/Dell box and not feel it's owner got robbed blind, even though they feel they've picked "the best option". DIY is a daunting task, but you do know what you're actually getting. OEM cards are often not the same as retail. .. They both might have the same core chip, but past that, all bets are off. Retail cards will be independently reviewed, torn down, benchmarked and checked. OEM cards aren't and they just have to have the big important number (3070 etc) and cost the OEM as little as possible. Alienware/Dell are the worst for this that I have encountered. Big numbers on the box, shocking garbage in the box.
  14. So I looked .. and I have thousands of these. Many of them are 0L freebies, but not all. Are people getting their product? Am I just not getting paid? Is no one getting anything?
  15. Switch to the Linden viewer and see if that behaves the same way. If it does, that rules out the problem being specific to FS, and as everyone on the grid isn't screaming about this, maybe your PC has developed a problem. As a first step to testing your PC, I would recommend https://www.memtest86.com/ - make a bootable USB, boot from that, and let it test test test over night.
  16. I'm very confident putting my neck out and giving an emphatic "no" on this even being a possibility. To the broader point of online advertising in general, it is complex and data is assembled based on dozens (if not hundreds) of interactions with web services and apps. People are assembled into cohorts with statistically correlated interests. There is a high chance that all your interests and activities on the broader internet put you in a cohort of people that overlaps with those having a stated interested in UV printers.
  17. If you have a L$500 account it's worth keeping as for all intents and purposes, it's free. I would not recommend changing the membership at all. Even if you roll a new account and make that super special premium plumbs, that legacy membership can just keep ticking away, paying for itself, and donating the tier to something useful.
  18. Did that once .. I have never been so disappointed is so many people before in my life. The same people, doing the same things with the same groups in the same places with the same attitudes and prejudices as they had decades ago. A complete and willful disregard for all life beyond their doorsteps coupled with a zero personal growth of any kind. The few of us that escaped aren't to be found on facebook.
  19. We used to do this every April 1st when we had a region (mixed central build and rentals), flood the region and not say a word. After much confusion, people would end up rezzing boats and messing about, it was a fun day and actually brought everyone together.
