Interesting. You know more about it than I do! My usual assumption is that unattended vehicles NOT owned by LL on public land would be returned to owners. So, they must have some special arrangement or method of operation.

Generally, most vehicles (except trams and trolleys) on public land for “use by anyone” are owned by LL. Private vehicles are usually stored on individual’s land parcels, and only driven into “public” roads when the owner wants to use them. Most “private vehicles” are not self-driving unless they are part of some sim’s tour or Experience, etc. If you want to create a public vehicle that anyone can use, but not take/keep/buy, then you may need special permission. I am sure you will get other answers from more people.

The price could always go back up once they have enough users to recommend “these mesh bodies”.

The functions supplied only apply to the entire object related to the prim the script is actually in. I don’t see functions to get permissions from links.

Similarly, you can’t change the color of an object via script unless the script is in the object. I don’t think you can detect the texture which was previously applied to the script.

Honestly, I am rarely in SL these days so if someone gets joy out using my stuff, I am happy. It all depends. My Linden Home is on the edge of a lake park, so I setup a bathroom and put out a “public bathroom” sign and “free fireworks” stand. On my full adult region, I rezzed a Paradise Blanket that is free for anyone to use. If I were at either place and someone was playing with controls (without permission) or being annoying, I would probably talk to them nicely before asking them to leave. *Edit* But if I was on a “date” and someone intruded, I would change the privacy temporarily.

See llGetObjectPermMask for the object, or llGetInventoryPermMask for items in the object (textures, scripts, other objects, etc.).

You could remove ban lines (allow anyone) while still banning the one guy. Note that most people probably turn off the ban lines- they are only visible if people want to see them, even if you have your parcel restricted.

Wondering if OP (ol’ Prok) now has a different understanding of the issue, and agrees/disagrees? Sounds like the error message makes perfect sense and it could be proven by rezzing mesh directly over “bad mesh” vs. at an angle pointing to other’s Land.

Aside from the HP I posted about (no screen), I got to use another (with screen and CPU) before 78, then nothing until Apple IIc in 82-84. Didn’t get my own until 84, C-64.
