  1. She most likely lives in a stacked group of skyboxes, all on the same parcel or region, so there is no way to turn off privacy from those on your own parcel. If she really rents her own parcel, from the land to the top of the world, she should be able to turn privacy on. If the landlord really prevents this by a region setting, then he/she is an idiot. Renting your own parcel is really the only way to assure some privacy.
  2. Have you deeded the land to a land group, or are you the owner of the land? Auto Return will return objects that are not in the land group even when you are the owner. Turn off auto return or set the time to zero. And make sure every object you have rezzed is in the land group. If you don't have your land deeded to your land group, then you must be the object's owner. So far you have not told us what your land configuration actually is. Rezzing an object onto a mesh object such as a mesh rug, or floor or furniture, often causes the object to land off your land, which also can cause it to go to your Lost and Found. It's likely the parcel it landed has no objects allowed for non group objects checked and auto-return activated. The solution is to rezz directly on the land (not mesh land) or on a prim. Prim rugs, or just a flat prim covering your floors and made invisible works fine. First thing I do after rezzing a mesh home is cover the floor with a prim. When a prior rezzed object that has been there for days is suddenly missing, that's a CDN/cache issue. Relogging forces the CDN to send you your assets again. If you log in an alt, your alt will see the object when you will still not. Last night, my off sim lighthouse first turned off it's light beacon. So I TPed to another region and returned. Now the entire lighthouse was missing. A relog brought back the lighthouse and the light. This is rather commonplace in SL. Consider it a feature... fewer objects on your land means less lag for you.
  3. I think this 10 mins or I quit thing is extreme and not realistic. If someone can't spend over 10 mins in a brand new "game/whatever" before they give up, why does SL need them? I would think at least 2 hours before you delete SL would be more reasonable And again this is someone who thinks they deserve everything now, not tomorrow. "Spoon feed me everything now because I never learned perseverance because that wasn't a subject at my school I had to take to graduate." You can earn a few more lindens by playing PaleoQuest, a linden game, and you need no PIOF, just a basic account. I made 13 L in 30 mins collecting dinosaur eggs. Its better than fishing, and they don't need your ID. Of course to collect those eggs you need to be able to walk and run, and fall off cliffs. Not a very high bar... You also need to know how to TP to the Linden Realms region, and find the right portal, which is in English. If you go to the normal Realms-1 you might also get this popup at the portal: Maintenance is not the strong point for Linden run games. But if you somehow discovered the Big Map you can double click on the backup region Realms-2, where the Paleoquest portal usually works. Nobody cares if your avatar looks like a noob, since 3/4 of the players are alts in Library noob outfits, so you fit right in.
  4. LL is overlooking a simple and more profitable solution to these long threads that repeat over and over and over and have the nerve to drift into RL. Charge one L$ per syllable to all posters (except moderators of course). Deduct this from your account only after the edit period has expired because your first thoughts were the true ones. Premium Plus members would get a 50% discount, and one syllable words would be free! Basic members are read only. A win-win for LL and the rest of us.
  5. Grandfathered threads will remain, but are subject to closure if "policy violations" occur. If the new rules restricting subject matter to only SL apply, then I would think the old threads must also follow the new policies after July 28, 2022, or be subject to being locked and closed. It's up to a moderator to decide if a RL cute kitten (or tiger) photo violates policy... The wording in the new policies doesn't exactly answer your question, it seems to me. Maybe in the cat thread, only RL photos and RL cartoon pictures will be removed from the thread. In that case I have about 500 cute SL unique Kittycats! snapshots I have taken in SL over the last 10 years that I can post, to make up for the lack of RL kittens and cats. Or would that be spamming? Relevant snips: No Discussions Not Directly Related to Second Life: Please keep all threads relevant and directly related to Second Life and Linden Lab. Anything unrelated to Second Life is subject to moderation. This includes, but is not limited to, politics, social issues, current events, and Non-SL discussion posts (Examples such as tell me a joke, make me laugh, etc). If the thread could exist on a non-Second Life Forum, that is probably a good sign it doesn’t belong here. Note: Posts made before 7/29/2022 will be left open unless policy violations cause them to be closed. Not Allowed: In addition to adhering to the Community Standards, please refrain from posting content discussing inflammatory content (Politics, Social Justice issues and Interpersonal disputes), Anything that doesn’t relate directly to Second Life/Linden Lab, Generic posts (like “Post a random animal picture!” versus an acceptable “Post your Second Life pets!”), etc. These are just guidelines, so please use your best judgment when posting if it is not explicitly stated here! end of quoted snips
  6. What stuff does Sid have here on this forum? He didn't say he was quitting SL, and if he was, you still can't have his stuff because sharing passwords is against the rules... Not in a funny mood at all this morning, and jokes must be restricted to the grandfathered joke thread now. No more jokes or cats in new threads.
  7. I thought this thread was about Amazon, not WalMart (who just warned today their margins are dropping). Walmart in my neighborhood is a grocery/pharmacy only, and the customers look like any other customer in the nearby up scale stores. Could be the location, an urban suburb where average family income is $200,000, which means we don't get the low income folks. My main complaint with Amazon is their delivery service. I always order over $25 to get the free delivery. They set the delivery date for 7 days out. But if I order on Friday morning, they deliver my package at noon on Sunday, with a Prime sticker. I don't have Prime. And they even text me to say it's delivered with a photo of the outside of my front door. How rude of them to wake my up on a Sunday morning...
  8. I have been using Firestorm and the LL viewer for the past 11 years. I use Firestorm for everything useful, my businesses, entertainment, games and exploring. I use the SL Viewer to help newbies and oldies who's underpowered laptop with 8GB memory on Win11 and integrated graphics cannot handle the latest bloated Firestorm loads without 10 fps and crashing every 20 minutes... If you had read my early posts here you would not have to ask me if I knew about release candidates. I have always installed the SL release candidates and the default SL viewer, whatever version the person I am helping is using.
  9. You will note that the Default viewer is now named Default, and not Maintenance2. But they still have a new and different Maintenance2 in the Release Notes. They need to update the old Maintenance2 to Default. Apparently what they name a Release candidate is not important and should be ignored, and just use the Build numbers:
  10. I fail to see how this analogy has anything to do with my questions. When a new default SL Viewer version was released in the past, most logging in with an older version would were forced to upgrade before they could log in. This was not the case for the present default viewer version. There are no assumptions that a user must make. A new user has no choice but to use the default version. Or maybe you are trying to say SL has such a high turnover rate that no one knows what version is the default, because Bob got promoted or something and hasn't figured out what his job is yet ?? The Default version (still called Maintenance 2) Release Notes has not yet been updated, and the fixes listed do not list all the cumulative changes that the default versions have in the past.
  11. Events is just a going forward list of daily events in chronological order. It is NOT a search engine and hence has no search or filter options. Use the SL web search page to find your events for the day and filter by time, subject, maturity etc. Past times are available if you set them in the filter options. https://search.secondlife.com/ (responding to the double post also)
  12. Try this url in any browser: https://search.secondlife.com/ Now you can sort Events by time of day, Maturity etc. You need to be logged in on the website to see Moderate and Adults events. The Events page you are using is useless, and mainly for by event hosts to check their own listings. LL removed any useful search options from the event page, because it is not a search page, and would compete with their new UI search engine I listed above. You do not need to be logged into an SL or TPV browser inworld to search in SL. But I guess LL doesn't want you to know that.
  13. My biggest problem is I spend too much time reading online forums about virtual worlds, especially this one. It affects me by getting hopelessly behind sorting and trimming my SL inventory. Then I get depressed thinking about it, and get another beer.
  14. Yes the same as Release Notes says is the Default viewer. But if you look at the Release notes for 6.6.1.572458 you find this below, with no mention it is now the Default Viewer. And I have found many SLViewer users are still running an older version: Second Life Release 6.6.0.571939 (64bit). So is there no more forced upgrade to the latest Default version now? 6.6.1.572458 - Maintenance2 Wednesday, June 29, 2022 64-bit Windows 32-bit Windows macOS Release Notes Maintenance Makgeolli As with all our Maintenance releases we have fixed more crashes. You all have some very interesting hardware configurations out there! Additionally this update includes updates and tweaks to some UI that we hope makes ease of use better in world
  15. Perhaps this information is hidden from us peons, but I would like to know what version of the SL Viewer is the latest now? The Release Notes page shows five versions presently available. Default is listed as 6.6.1.572458, and is also named 6.6.1.572458 - Maintenance2 , Wednesday, June 29, 2022 on it's page of changes. Is this the Default for everyone now, and if not why is it called the Default viewer? (Never mind that Maintenance2 is also listed for 6.6.2.573065 - Maintenance2, Thursday, July 7, 2022 - why give different versions identical titles?) Do all the newer versions of Maintenance* only have the new features for each version, or are they cumulative? 6.6.2.573372 - Profiles Wednesday, July 20, 2022 is the latest version, called "Profiles". Does Profiles version contain all the new features and bug fixes of the other versions? Why is this not made clearer? What version should I be using today? I have always used the so called Beta versions, but when there are 5 of them, all with different release dates, which version is complete enough to use as the default viewer?
  16. The web events listing can list past events for the same day. You just have to use the design bug to see them, since there is no search by time of day options. To see past events for the day, click on a future day on the calendar. Then click back to today. All the events from 12:01 AM on are now listed. Use the Event type filter to reduce the events lists somewhat. You cannot change the Maturity Level unless you change your account maturity level. Then page and page and page until you reach the time an event started. If you refresh the web page, or it self refreshes, then the Show Upcoming Events filter kicks in, and you only see future start times. Yes it's a horrible design - but LL isn't a web page design company, so what did you expect?
  17. Men seem to think their height indicates their freenis length, and we all know 12 inches is normal in SL...
  18. The link I provided before explains the payment methods. He might have a waiver, in which case a postal employee riding a donkey might deliver a real check. But how to cash the check, a check cashing service that charges an extra fee, or a local Walmart? There is a lack of useful information other than nothing works, from the OP. From the SSA govt. site: Federal law mandates that all Federal benefit payments – including Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits – must be made electronically. There are two ways you can receive your benefits: Into an existing bank account via Direct Deposit or Onto a Direct Express® Debit Mastercard® Direct Deposit is the best electronic payment option for you because it is: Safe – Since your money goes directly into the bank in the form of an electronic transfer, there's no risk of a check being lost or stolen. Quick – It's easy to receive your benefit by Direct Deposit. You can sign up online at Go Direct®, by calling 1-800-333-1795, in person at your bank, savings and loan or credit union, or calling Social Security. Then, just relax. Your benefit will go automatically into your account every month. And you'll have more time to do the things you enjoy! You don't have to leave your house in bad weather or worry if you're on vacation or away from home. You don't have to pay any fees to cash your checks. Your money is in your account ready to use when business opens the day you receive your check. If you are applying for Social Security or Supplemental Security Income benefits, you must elect to receive your benefit payment electronically when you enroll. If you currently receive Social Security or Supplemental Security Income benefits by check, you must switch to an electronic payment option listed above. To learn more about how to easily switch from a paper check to an electronic payment option, visit Treasury’s Go Direct website or call the Treasury’s Electronic Payment Solution Center at 1-800-333-1795. You can also create a my Social Security account and start or change Direct Deposit online. In extremely rare circumstances, Treasury may grant exceptions to the electronic payment mandate. If you have any questions, call Social Security at 1-800-772-1213 (TTY 1-800-325-0778).
  19. I am just quoting from the SSA SSI site, which is correct. If you have no other income and you are NOT paying your fair share for the household, then they reduce the SSI to compensate for that. Your fair share was as stated above - pay that and you get the full $841 allowed, and they assume you are paying what you claim. If you don't actually pay that amount for household expenses, then who does? Maybe there is a power of attorney taking care of it for you. In any case, you have no excuse for not opening a checking account with an online bank.
  20. Yes, from what the OP said, living with parents - he should have extra income, assuming he is only paying his fair share of household expenses, that is if his parents are not overcharging him. And he needs no income or cash at all to open a bank account, and the bank would love to get his direct deposit every month. SSA gives this example, and as you can see, you are left with extra money each month for other personal expenses of $841 - 400 = $441/ mo in this example. Not much but more than some just getting by. I wish I had a $441 surplus every month to spend on myself. No mention of the stimulus money either... EXAMPLE 😄 If you live in another person’s household and share expenses. Suppose you live with your brother, and 2 uncles in a home that your brother is buying and your only income is SSI. There are 4 people in the household. The mortgage payment is $700. The average monthly bills are $200 for electricity, $100 for water and sewer, and $600 for food. The total monthly expenses are $1600. Because there are 4 people in the household, your share of the expenses is $400 per month. If you pay your full share of $400 for the household expenses there would be no reduction of your benefit and you would get the full $841 in your SSI check. If you pay less than $400, then you would be receiving in-kind support and maintenance. We would apply the one-third reduction rule and the $841 would be reduced by $280.33, so your SSI benefit would be $560.67. (Even with more inflation adjusted numbers of $1500 rent/mortgage, and 3 people in the household, his fair share would be $600/mo. That still leaves $241/mo for other personal expenses.)
  21. What amount you get depends on your living arrangements, rent, etc - and generally is between $500 and the $841/mo for one individual. Some states also add additional cash benefits. But you must get paid electronically. Your monthly SSI is sent to you through direct deposit to your bank checking account, or with a Direct Express® Debit Mastercard®. You could easily change to a bank direct deposit of your monthly SSI which would solve all your ID and Pay Pal problems. Getting cash from a Direct Express debit card, which is the only other way you could get your SSI, leaves you with no traceable records. You can get a bank debit card with direct deposit and do the same thing, and have bank records. The amount you get does leave you extra cash to spend. Even if you are in a Nursing Home and all your expenses are paid directly to the home, you get $30 extra/month for personal use. https://www.ssa.gov/deposit/#:~:text=There are two ways you,Express® Debit Mastercard® "Electronic payments As required by law, when you applied for SSI, you should’ve signed up to receive your payments electronically. Direct deposit is a simple, safe, and secure way to receive your benefits. Sign up for direct deposit by contacting your bank for help, or by contacting us. Another option is the Direct Express® card program. With Direct Express® , deposits from federal payments are made directly to the card account. Signing up for the card is quick and easy. Call the toll-free Treasury Electronic Payment Solution Contact Center at 1-800-333-1795. Or, sign up online at www.GoDirect.org.
  22. Free checking, no minimum balance, no opening fee, free debit card etc here: https://www.53.com/content/fifth-third/en/personal-banking/bank/checking-accounts/momentum-checking.html If you arrange direct deposit of your SSI to that account, then you can also get a $375 opening account cash bonus (see offer) by depositing at least $500 within 90 days. https://www.53.com/content/fifth-third/en/mkg/checking-offer.html Your SSI should be much more than that amount. With that account you could try to use the debit card with Tilia, or use your new bank account to open a pay pal account in your name and verify the account with your bank. How do you receive your disability income? That in itself could be adequate ID for Tilia. As long as you have internet service, there is no reason to use a local bank. Somewhere along the line you are not getting the advice you need given your needs. If you are not receiving state and federal assistance for your disability, why not? How are you earning that cash money that you use to pay your bills?
  23. I forgot to list Your Avatar (corrected now) in my post. I guess LL doesn't want a potential member to see how confusing and expensive making an Avatar can be.
  24. There are more than one type of "Debit Card". Generally the ones that work with SL are issued by major national or regional banks, and they have either the MasterCard or VISA symbol on them. These "debit" cards can also be used to debit with a bank's VISA or MasterCard affiliation for purchases online or a brick store, which can give you extra protection, but cost a merchant more in processing fees. They are usually issued as part of your Bank's checking account features, or a money market or brokerage account. Banks can also issue a debit card for only using funds from your checking/savings accounts, with no credit card symbols. They are for people with no financial history, generally considered higher risk. These are more like the cash cards at Seven-11, and usually are not acceptable by LL. Everything in between these two extremes can be problematic.
  25. People Forums: Your Avatar, Make Friends, Lifestyles and Relationships, Role Play, and General Discussion Forum all need you to be logged in before you can read or see any posts. Same with the Adult Content Forum, which has always been the case. No idea if this is a new thing for the People Forums.
