  1. The reports of missing inventory increased when the rapid fake shutdown was first added to Firestorm. The rapid shutdown was an LL "feature" that came with their enhanced performance viewer, weeks before FS released the same code. It has been difficult to convince the developers this is a problem, because, like Rowan, they don't shut down windows, or relog back in instantly like ordinary users often do. It is much easier to just blame the user than actually fix the problem. I have never had this lost inventory problem myself either, which means ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, when it is a problem for others. I never shut down my computers. I usually wait at least 1 min before re-logging. But when FS still had the shutdown page visible, of course I was forced to wait. My inventory on my main alt is around 80K, and not flat, although it needs work since all the free gifts have become a way of life. Before the rapid shutdown, I would wait about 15 seconds for windows desktop to return. Now they removed the clock, so I guess I have to count, one thousand one, one thousand two... But if your job requires a quick relog, and you have no clue about the real shut down time, you might lose inventory. Main problem is most users have no idea about shutdowns. They are shoppers, clubbers, artists, lovers, or small animals , and think if they tried to open their computer case it will explode; besides their nail file makes a poor screwdriver. Kyrie, I hope your FS Jira 32417 gets some action. So far they told you to whitelist your anti-virus, and seem unconcerned, the same as the FS Help group.
  2. Doubt you will get an answer. If your password was not trivially simple, like 12345, or "password", you were likely phished. There are fake MP login urls sent around in groups everyday in SL. These url pages look exactly like MP, and ask you to log in with your SL name and password. Then they move you to the real MP, and they now have your password. MFA won't do a thing to prevent phishing.
  3. No, nothing is worth getting used to the Linden viewer. It lacks so many basic and essential useful features that you find in the TPV's, that I can't imagine living with such a feature damaged viewer. Sure it may have less lag on weaker systems. People liked the simplicity of the early Model T Ford's too. Hand crank the engine and run back an turn down the hand choke before the engine died. Starters and batteries added too much weight, ol Henry said, and I'd have to raise the price.
  4. This incomplete inventory issue because the shutdown process fails is an age old problem. Nothing is new here. What is new is: a) modern viewers have more to do when they shut down, especially FS and probably are not optimized for minimun shutdown times, and b) large and flat inventories, which always take "far too long" to shut down, and finally write the .gz inventory to the local drive. I explained in a prior post here how an old partner would easily take 2 mins or more to shut down. It was her huge and mostly flat inventory that was her problem. The solution, other than spending 3 months adding subfolders and deleting 150K of duplicates, was to tell her to stop turning off her computer until the FS logout screen was gone. The solution was to WAIT, and not be so damn impatient. But now, LL and FS using the rapid logoff code, has removed the only indication that you are not safely logged out. The Windows desktop returns instantly upon logout. Who's bright idea was this? Let's remove the oil lights and gasoline gauge and speedometer from autos too, since any experienced auto engineer should just know what is happening to the engine by listening to it. That seems to be the justification of the programmers in this fake shutdown code. They know better, they have optimized inventories, and they have flawless internet connections, so why should they care, they never see missing inventory. The Firestorm help group has another answer to missing inventory. Whitelist your anti virus, and if you already did, do it again, and if that didn't work then do it again. Mention the shutdown issue to them and you get a blank stare and rude comments. And so the issue goes on forever.
  5. There are more of us over 80 than most of you kids realize, but we don't admit it. Age discrimination and stereotypes rule in RL and SL. In 1961 I took a grad level math course in machine language programming from a Physics professor (there was no such thing as Computer Science, and the electrical engineering dept was still teaching vacuum tubes and analog computers.) The ML exams were all about solving simple problems with ones and zeros , long strings of them, and if they crashed the mainframe test system, you failed. Been in technology since I built my first crystal radio set at age 9, from a public library book published in 1935. Not much is new for me in technology, just refinements built on past research.
  6. As boring as Gen Discussion has become, I learn something new here at least once a week. The swede (from Swedish turnip), rutabaga (in Sweden and USA) or yellow turnip (Brassica napobrassica, or Brassica napus var. napobrassica, ...
  7. Stop giving them Ideas! And I want to be paid for my Forum posts.
  8. Why did LL come up with this silly requirement that you had to own a full region before you could own a Homestead? Were they afraid most would go for a Homestead and they would lose money? Claiming you are getting a reduced price, because you don't need to own a full region from LL now with PP+, is strange thinking to me. Does GMC require I buy a top line Cadillac CT6 from them before I can own a Chevy Spark? The brainwashing at SL is strong.
  9. Besides what Ceka told you, you should also read the entire TOS's listed, so you know what you are being asked to accept. Web pointers below: https://www.lindenlab.com/legal/second-life-terms-and-conditions https://www.lindenlab.com/tos#tos4 https://www.lindenlab.com/privacy Happy Reading Extra Credit - Read the Tilia TOS too, and compare to the LL TOS: https://www.tilia.io/legal/terms-of-service
  10. I never said you had to agree with the Tilia TOS again, since you did in May, or whenever you agreed to the Tilia TOS for PIOF or a Process Credit. Not sure what your point was there. The Oct 31st SL TOS's (there are three of them) did NOT include the Tilia TOS. The Tilia TOS is written to apply to any of their customers, not just Second Life. SL can and did add extra rules to the process credit, and Tilia as they say, will comply with the new SL TOS. SL is just another Publisher with a Platform. Read the first section of the Tilia TOS: The Tilia Service is offered through Tilia’s integrations with websites (each, a "Platform") that are offered by third parties (each, a "Publisher"). Access to all or a portion of the Tilia Service through these Platforms and Publishers may be available or discontinued at the sole discretion of Tilia. You agree that your use of the Platform through which you access the Tilia Service is governed by the relevant Publisher's end user license agreement and/or terms of use, including, without limitation, password and account security policies (collectively, the "Platform TOS"). We do not assume any responsibility for the content, policies or practices of any Platform, Publisher or other third party, including any Platform TOS, and you hereby agree that we are not liable for any loss arising from your use of any Platform, any act or omission of any Publisher or other third party, or the terms of any Platform TOS.
  11. It's been stuck in a Senate committee since it was read in the Senate on Jan 13, 2022. It has until Jan 3, 2023 to go thru senate sub committees, votes by both houses of Congress, and the President's signature. It will probably be attached to some spending bill that the Senate will veto if it goes anywhere this year. https://www.congress.gov/bill/117th-congress/senate-bill/3501
  12. It could be summarized in one short line. "All you have is ours."
  13. But you agreed to the Oct 31, 2022 TOS from SL, which adds the "hold" provision that Tilia does not have. This is not bad wording to me, it is a specific change in the TOS that you must agree to or never be able to log into SL again. I don't think you can pick and choose which TOS is in effect now. You agreed to both. And the only change from the May 2022 Tilia TOS that SL made is to hold funds in your Stored Value Account, if you have a future payment to SL. There are no details as to the future hold time. Is it 2 days, 6 days, 30 days, 6 months? If I have a Premium Plus payment due in December, is SL going to hold $249 USD in my Tilia SVB account today? At what point in time am I not allowed to reduce my SVB to $0 USD, by a Process Credit cashout? Tilia TOS May 10, 2022: 4.3 Withdrawals and Redemptions You may redeem all or part of any fiat-denominated balance held in your Stored Value Balance at any time. Second Life TOS Oct 31, 2022: 4.3 Process Credit from Stored Value Account to Permitted Account If you accumulate more value in your Stored Value Account than you need to pay amounts associated with your use of Second Life, Tilia may, in its discretion and subject to its agreement with Second Life, allow you to request a refund from your Stored Value Account. Subject to your compliance with Tilia’s Terms of Service, you may be permitted to request that Tilia process a credit from your Stored Value Account, in an amount equal to all or a portion of the available funds associated with your Stored Value Account, to your PayPal account or other account permitted by Tilia. Tilia, in its sole discretion, will approve or deny your request. Notice Tilia is subject to its agreement with Second Life and theirTOS, which everyone must accept to continue in SL.
  14. I doubt they could clear up the parts that are missing, since they don't know either. But how can they write something clear, when it's all up to their discretion anyway? Their 2017 Terms Of Service is quite a read in itself. Greatest piece of butt covering ever. https://www.lindenlab.com/tos#tos4
  15. Perhaps you would be happier if I called them Difficult Dollars (DD). And there is both risk and uncertainty about you actually getting these DD's into the Real World. If Tilia thinks those DD in your Stored Value Account were obtained illegally, such as someone gifting you Linden Dollars, or someone files a false AR against you, they will not release your DD's to you, and can in fact take them from you. This is nothing like a passbook savings account. Besides any savings account being instantly transferable to a checking account ONLINE, for the past 35 years, I have never heard of a bank saying we think the funds in your savings account are suspicious, so we will not pay you your USD savings balance. Not without a court order at least. And there is the problem. SL has no in-world legal system to challenge their decisions. They don't even have to tell you where they think you have violated their TOS, and they usually do not. I have bolded the latest TOS words about process credits: 4.3 Process Credit from Stored Value Account to Permitted Account If you accumulate more value in your Stored Value Account than you need to pay amounts associated with your use of Second Life, Tilia may, in its discretion and subject to its agreement with Second Life, allow you to request a refund from your Stored Value Account. If approved, the request will be subject to a fee (the “Process Credit Fee”) payable to Tilia, and the credit will be processed within approximately five (5) to ten (10) business days following the request. Some requests may take up to thirty (30) days to process. You may see this concept referred to as a “Process Credit” throughout Second Life and other materials. 4.4 Funds in your Stored Value Account You are not required to maintain any funds in your Stored Value Account. If you do hold funds in your Stored Value Account, those funds will not be insured to you by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation or any other entity, and you will not be entitled to any interest with respect to such funds.
  16. I have 50 Mbps up and down on a direct wired fiber connection. It is massive overkill for just SL. Only time you want faster speed is for downloading movie and sound files, and that assumes the source doesn't limit their download speeds. I just TPed to a marketplace sim with many thousands of high resolution textures - a heavily loaded breeder marketplace using every last resource in their 30K private region. These are the results, for all data, TCP and UDP and local LAN. Note the download rate peaks around 11 Mbps for a few seconds. Data collection rate is every second on this graph: And for my Home region with a few breedables and 2 avatars, I need about 180 kbps. Turned on the radio stream and we need about 300 kbps. So I could get by with a 0.5 Mbps connection if needed for SL, if I never went anywhere
  17. You cannot use all the forms LL Dollars as the same thing. Linden Dollars are tokens, worth nothing outside of the game, as stated in their TOS. Tilia Dollars are a USD fiat currency that is still not a USD dollar in your bank account or wallet. The $600 IRS threshold does not apply to Linden Dollars at all. I am not sure if it applies to the Tilia Dollars in the Reserve account either, assuming those Tilia dollars are never cashed out to real USD in Paypal. I have assumed (might be wrong) that for Tilia to report your > $600 Tilia Dollar balance to the IRS with a 1099, they first had to send it to Paypal. If I have a $600 Tilia balance, just sitting there in Tilia, as what I still call "fake dollars" because I can not spend them in RL, does that cause a 1099 earnings form to be sent to the IRS? And what if that $600 is on hold by Tilia, to pay a land tier fee to SL? Now my Tilia balance is $0 Tilia dollars after SL takes it for tier, which is a business expense (I don't pay tiers for pleasure). And finally does anyone here have a business that earns over say $600 Tilia dollars in a short time like one month, and do you get a 1099 sent to you every month by Tilia, irregardless of whether you try to cash it out or not?
  18. Why do you think Tilia will not apply their "hold" policy to your alt's Tilia dollars? Tilia requires your full legal identification before they will approve any Process Credit to Paypal or Skrill. They know your full name, your RL address, your age, and your social security number and your e-mail address. (your RL phone number is optional.) If Tilia sees Linden dollars being transferred to or from an alt account, which they can easily confirm is yours, they could call this an illegal attempt to violate their new TOS terms. Or they can apply the new Hold policy to both accounts, since they share the same social security number and RL name. I have an alt account with Process Credit approval, to a different pay pal account connected to a different bank. But my RL name, social security number and ID are still the same for both my main and alt SL accounts. I am not going to test your scheme out after Oct. 31, 2022. Now if you can enlist another trusted person to open an SL account and obtain Process Credit approval, with a different social security number and address - I guess this could work. Might want to run this money laundering scheme through Tilia first though.
  19. I don't think OP wants advice. Just wants to vent. IT'S BROKEN AND THEY WON'T FIX IT!
  20. Of course, Paypal has no direct FDIC insurance. But I would only use the funding transfer when I was actually paying a bill to Tilia and LL. And this transaction is instantaneous, or maybe a few seconds. I don't need FDIC insurance for funds that are in my Paypal account for a few seconds. The money in my bank account is still FDIC insured. And if I transfer Paypal funds to my bank account, those funds are also insured once they reach my bank account, the same as any cash deposit I add to my bank account. So it really does matter. Added: see prior post - all banks have FDIC insurance as stated, and PayPal has NO requirement that you ever keep any funds in their account. With a $0.00 balance in Paypal, they simply take the funds from your member bank, insured funds.
  21. Not everyone pays with a credit card. My payments to LL are from Paypal, which transfers funds from my connected bank account, that has both FDIC insurance and pays interest. If I don't have the funds in my bank account, the bank may still pay Paypal/LL, and hit me with an overdraft fee. Usually I keep enough in Paypal to cover all my LL expenses. This hold request does not list a time frame, just they use their "sole discretion" to decide. The only way to find out how much you can have as a process credit is to wait 5 to 30 days and see what they have held back. If this was automatic when you made your process credit request, then it would not require someone's "sole discretion" decision. If high income land barons or designers wanted to avoid the risk of LL holding their fake Tilia dollars, they could and some already do, ask for payment for their product and services from RL credit or debit cards, or Paypal directly - bypassing the fees and uncertainty of these new TOS rules. If their usual payment is with Lindens, now they get stuck with holds. Reducing one's payment obligations to LL is the only way to avoid Tilia dollar holds. Fewer inworld stores, fewer regions to pay for, etc. LL already knows there are few income generators in SL (artists, designers, land barons, and escorts), so they can do this without many complaints.
  22. If LL tells Tilia to withhold any Tilia dollars from a process credit because you may owe those dollars to LL in the future ("If you accumulate more value in your Stored Value Account than you need to pay amounts associated with your use of SL"), then there is no separation. Tilia follows whatever LL tells them according to the LL TOS. You must follow the LL TOS rules, not the Tilia rules, or delete your SL account!
  23. 4.3 Process Credit from Stored Value Account to Permitted Account If you accumulate more value in your Stored Value Account than you need to pay amounts associated with your use of Second Life, Tilia may, in its discretion and subject to its agreement with Second Life, allow you to request a refund from your Stored Value Account. If approved, the request will be subject to a fee (the “Process Credit Fee”) payable to Tilia, and the credit will be processed within approximately five (5) to ten (10) business days following the request. Some requests may take up to thirty (30) days to process. So say you "own" 10 regions bought from LL (private regions), and you then pay LL $2,290 USD/month in tier to LL. If you want to cash out say, $500 USD with a process transfer, you must have 2,290 + 500 + fees in your Stored Value Account, to get $500 to Paypal or your bank. Tilia will hold the first $2,290 to pay your monthly land tier. Some landowners might prefer to pay LL from their interest earning insured bank accounts, instead of leaving $2,290 in their SVA. Of course if you never sell your Lindens for Tilia dollars, they will take the tier from an outside account. But your renters pay you in Lindens, so you need to sell Lindens into your Tilia SVA so you can afford to pay your region tiers. How will the land barons like this new rule? I prefer to keep my Tilia SVA at $0 USD and only have a balance when I am doing a process credit. Why give my dollars to Tilia for no interest and no FDIC insurance?
