  1. I have learned how to make 3D models - I actually had no experience in that whasoever before I staretd building in SL. I have improved my 2D graphic skills tremendously. I have learned a new scripting alnguage and improved my programming skills. I have learned a lot about how computers and the itnernet work. I have learned a lot about how humans work. I have met a lot of wonderful people who have taught me a lot about so many different things I can't even start to list them all. But most of all, I have learned how wonderful Real Life is.
  2. No there isn't. I'm not sure why, even with skeleton and path based flexis it could still have been a very interesting (relatively) low lag animation option. Opensim has it for objects (not avatars), OpenGL supports it and it shouldn't be any problem for HAVOK to handle either.
  3. Oh yes! I assumed it was somebody you knew who had been palying with your computer. But if you account has been hacked, change the password asap!
  4. Go to https://support.secondlife.com/create-case/ and open a support case. There's even a special category named "Reactivate an old Account there". You'll have to be prepared to pay the account reactivation fee though since it's hardly LL's fault if somebody else cancelled your account. It's slightly less than 10 US dollars so not a big deal. Oh, and if you actually gave somebody else access to your account, don't mention that in the support case since that's a ToS violation. Just pretend you did it yourself by accident.
  5. (Traditional Ancient Old Chinese Word of Wisdom - poorly translated)
  6. No we're not. Second Life, this forum, all the users - we're all just figments of your imagination, Chic.
  7. On MP: No box if I'm the buyer Box if I'm the seller Inworld: No box Edit: Ideally I would have preferred to never ever having to buy or sell anything boxed. But if you have an MP store with a large number of lsiting and each listing contains a large number of items, you don't really have a choice. VML is rubbish even at the best of times and the more individual items you ask it to handle, the worse it gets. And of course at an inworld store, if you use a scritped vendor, you don't have any choice at all: everything that is sold together has to be boxed.
  8. I wasn't actually thinking of musical style but rather the design and overall concept. You can play any kind of music in any venue of course. I'm not surprised to heart that people who are into the music from those time periods tip better though.
  9. It's Friday and time for the Serious Topic of the Week. So, what would be the most useless item that can possibly be made in Second Life? How about a... a wearable online indicator? A piece of jewelry that changes color depending on whether you are logged on or not? Any better suggestions? It doesn't have to be something that exists yet. New creative ideas to enrichen our virtual world are more than welcome! (Oh, and if you want to recommend an existing product, do not mention brand name or creator and do not include a link. If you do, the moderators will probably remove your post.)
  10. RC Pie is a Snack channel. Those channels are always temporary so your sim won't stay on it for long.
  11. I'm sure they will soon now that the hardware issues seem to be fixed. Right now all channels are running exactly the same software so at the moment it doesn't matter anyway.
  12. You can file a support case and ask to have an old account reactivated. If you still have the logon info, it's farily straight forward. If you don't, it may be a bit tricky but LL will try their best to help. There is a fee for reactivating an account though (I think it's about 10 US dollars) and and it will be a separate account from your current one.
  13. We don't usually offer support for specific products here since there are just so many items on the market there's no way anybody can be familiar with them all. But we can try. Which security orb do you have?
  14. Linden Lab still does that at least: https://secondlife.com/my/lindex/market.php (you'll have to log on to see it). 2008 I think. By sheer coincidence it happen at about the same time that the numbers started to look less good than they used to. Keep in mind that Gridsurvey still keeps outdated info about the stats that are no longer available so remember to check when the figures where last updated.
  15. Unfortunately that is exactly how it is, there is literally nothing they can do - only the copyright owner can file a complaint. That's what the very Real real life laws in the USA says and LL has to follow that whether they like it or not.
  16. Yes but it is possible they're a little bit too busy for lengthy explanations right now,
  17. There's even more to it than that. 7 - 4 - 1. Subtract the 1 from the 4 and you get 3. Add the 1 to the 7 and you get 8. 38 again! And not only that. 3+8 is 11 which of course rhymes with 7 and it's two ones. Divide the eight by two and you get 4. 7-4-1. It all makes perfect sense. Exactly. The number of attachments is a subtle mind control device to turn SL users into an unpaid (and paying even) work force for Linden Lab.
  18. There are several possible reasons. According to some numerologists, 38 represents the principle of the cosmic or celestial life and in the quasi-Chinese branch of numerology, 38 represents great fortune. Others disagree though and some claim it's an omen predicting a sad end. Either of these explanations seem equally plausible.
  19. To add some figures to that. A month or so ago I was contacted by somebody who had an emergency. They were about to open a club and their builder had vanished from SL. Turned out there was a very obvious (although not very nice) reason, the builder had agreed to do the job for just 14,000 Lindens and when she realized what she was up against, she probably got cold feet and took the money and ran. Well, I felt a bit sorry for them and it's the quiet time of year so I didn't have too much else to do so I agreed to do the job for a symbolic 20,000 L$. In the end they got off very cheap of course but they still had to pay 34,0000 for the building alone. Normally I wouldn't have done a job like that for anything less than 100,000, probably a bit more. Add at least another 100k for the furniture and equipment. I'm not really a veteran SL resident but close enough I think. I don't have a couple dance machine so I'd have to buy that, probably a few other items I wouldn't have time to script msyelf too. But apart from that, yes I could. Not in the sense that I could make any significant amount of money from it but enough to stay in the black. But I won't because it would take far too much time and effort. Besides, there are so many 1980s Disco Role Play sites in SL already we don't really need another one.
  20. Is there a LeTigre channel at all at the moment? Earlier today I checked a sim that used to be LeTigre and found that it had suddenly become main channel.
  21. In that case, the easiest way is to go Premium and get a Linden Home. It's also the most boring way of course but it's a good start. The Meadowbrook theme has the most practical houses but Tahoe is ok too. Elderglen is for those with special interest in fairy tale/fantasy style and the Shareta Osumai theme is for machosists and for people who can't get enough of poorly made fake Japanese architecture.
  22. No they don't actually. They're quite happy to have the third party viewers around - saves them a lot of necessary work like Liunx support, developing a (barely) functional snapshot function and stuff. But they do not generally provide technical support for third party viewers and really, you can't expect them to. This reminds me of one of the last meetings in the old content creator user group. Somebody asked why LL didn't accept bug reports for Firestorm and Nyx Linden's answer was simply that it was better to send bug reports to somebody who could actually do something about them.
  23. You can also rent a ready made furnished or unfurnished house from someone else and as a premium member you get the choice between livign in a Linden Home or buying a piece of mainland and build there yourself. There's no definite answer to what is the best solution so we need to know a bit about what you expect from your virtual home.
