  1. Not always, no. Learning is fun only when you either enjoy it or want to achieve something. Learning for the sake of learning is not really fun, not for me anyway. On SL examples. I found that decorating and building my place is a lot of fun and relaxing for me a long while ago, and have learned all I could about landscaping, modding things, merging furniture together etc while applying some of my rl decorating skills in the process. It took me a while, but I did enjoy the process even if I had to redo things many many times, especially at the start. Likewise I do enjoy a certain aspect of avatars customization, so I keep up with new releases, trends, and a lot of stores. I'm quite happy with my avatar, but I don't dive into some customization like Ayashe does for example, it's too much efforts/time for my liking, nor do I really enjoy it. And lastly - scripting. I know the basics, but that's where my interest in learning about that has started and stopped. It's not really useful for anything I do, and I don't enjoy the process. And last, but not least, we are all pretty invested here on the forums, although some probably spend a lot less time in-world than the others. But I've met a great number of people in my 11 years here who are only around for a few hours a week on average. I can't see them enjoying learning "how to fix this, that and this too" instead of just logging in, doing their thing and logging off until the next time. Especially if that "something" doesn't really change their SL to the better. I won't argue that progress is a good thing, I was pretty excited about EEP back when it was announced, and same goes for the PBR. And being the "filthy gamer" I do have a decent enough PCs (yes, plural) for SL, so I'm not exactly concerned about not running it at my desired settings and resolution anymore. But I'm rather annoyed with how LL keeps pushing out unfinished products (EEP and PBR being the best examples) instead of just doing it properly. Of course bugs and issues are expected, even AAA games gets released with those and get patched eventually. But releasing EEP with a known issue where basic water had like 1/3 fps hit in some cases, or releasing PBR in the current state is not acceptable in my opinion.
  2. They had New Year sales before, so might be worth to wait if you're not in rush.
  3. It's the beta viewer and is nowhere ready for release, though. And given the mess with the main release they had to roll back due to AO and some inventory issues it's not even all that recent build as they have been busy fixing it. I'd wait until RC at least to compare the performance and all the rest between different viewers. Given the holidays and end of the year I'd guess it won't be out for at least another month, probably longer. I'd normally say 2 to 3 months, but I remember how LL was pushing TPV devs to release some updates for the "shared experience", I think last was the EEP one? So they had to release it in a pretty bad state with plenty of known issues, then fix them later. Hopefully it won't be the case this time around and they'll take their time. Latest FS doesn't have PBR, so just released 6.6.17 doesn't really have any performance differences compared to 6.6.14, not too drastic ones at least. It's mostly the fixes, inventory thumbnails and other little QoL changes.
  4. Make sure your reborn is 1.69.6, it won't work otherwise. If you are already using this latest version, then just click reset alpha in the body's hud while wearing waifus.
  5. It won't. There has been a lot of whining on the forums about EEP when it was released as it was, which LL has implemented in one of the worst ways possible (kinda like with PBR now, too). But it is what it is, a small and vocal minority (myself included). Same deal about pro-mod everything stuff for example. If you'd only read forums you'd think that "most people in SL ignore those terrible no-mod creators", but it couldn't be further from the truth. So people will either keep using what they use, or just leave SL if it stops working for them.
  6. List with pictures is up on Seraphim for people like me who can't be bothered to check everything (I really have no use for all those special makeups and certainly don't need new skins). I think it does miss a few creators who are late, though. https://www.seraphimsl.com/2023/12/09/lelutkas-12-days-of-christmas-has-arrived-first-class/
  7. In SL's case there will be a mix of content pretty much forever, unless someone will focus on making their entire region PBR-only. I know I won't, though, not only it's too much work to replace/redo every single piece in a 30k region, but in some cases gains are just not worth it. And as far as just wandering around goes, then we are stuck with a mix of full bright and glow enabled prims, sculpties, mesh without old materials, with old materials and eventually with PBR forever. It's not a downside given current issues with PBR viewers, especially just recently fixed(?) performance degradation over time on Nvidia cards. It's not as big of a disaster as EEP rollout was, but in my opinion PBR wasn't ready to be rolled out just yet. But someone at LL really wanted to push its release before holidays season, and they did.
  8. They were and at first Lelutka only had one region, but it was this expensive event type and it still crashed every 5 minutes, so they had to get more regions again. First few days it was still all packed, but when I sent over a few people to grab their gifts after 4-5 days or so it was already very easy to teleport into either of those gift locations. --- I wonder who else will join this year. So far it's mostly skin and makeup creators as usual, but Stealthic also posted the same teaser, so there's a free hair by them most likely.
  9. About as good as campaign against the alpha cuts and "pure bom for everyone" by other two people did. And now LaraX has even more alpha cuts than the previous one, while two non alpha cuts bodies are: 1 - dead for a year (slink), 2 - dying (kupra). BoM purists are in shambles, probably. People who want new things and yet don't want to get a bit more thick will swap eventually. I don't see yet another body trying to squeeze into the market now. That said a few people I know who still were using maitreya used an opportunity that is "going to lose my entire wardrobe anyway/need to change between the bodies based on the outfit" and swapped to reborn and legacy bodies instead. Small sample size, obviously, but I think there's not a single person I know a bit closer who would still be using maitreya as their main body anymore, while in 2015-2018 it was nearly 100%. LindeX has the market data and it shows pretty normal numbers of daily operations, with notable spikes around black friday sales and one more for the December 1st (people restocking some L$ after using it all on sales perhaps?). So business as usual in that regard. Many don't celebrate any gift giving holidays after all.
  10. There is actually *some* new clothing for those, because it's been the method to get their devkit for the actual Legacy bodies (the legacy classic does not exist, it's the meshbody classic) for around 2.5 - 3 years now. One shall grab a free devkit for those classic bodies and release at least one clothing item (original one, so doing a retextured FP mesh doesn't counts) for them, then after their team check it they send over a Legacy kit. That said, it usually exactly one item per creator/store just to get their devkit, because there's no reason to keep making clothing for the freebie bodies whatsoever. --- And yeah, like already said by others, saving up and getting the "retail" body will be much better on the long run. If OP wants a Maitreya, then given that they only do sales once a year it'll have to be at the full price now. But if OP wants a more curvy body with growing freebies/gifts base, then Ebody had Easter sales last 2 years, and Xmas sale last year as well, so Reborn should be available then for a bit less than Maitreya.
  11. It's difficult to calculate the actual value of gifts, and virtual things in general. If someone has a bit of a shopping budget for SL and don't try to maintain 10 accounts with it, then chances are most of those gifts will be absolutely worthless to them as they have better things to work with already. And if someone needs those SL freebies to outfit themselves and/or at least their alts to save the money, then those gifts might be actually valuable to them. I, personally, don't bother with gifts with the rare few exceptions. If it's anniversary round of some big event then I may take a look inside the gift boxes from some stores that I know make some good things, but even those most often choose to just throw in some earrings, choker or special event edition/color for the said event, all of which I don't need even for free. Exceptions over the years were heads by Lelutka, few things by my favorite stores that are actually some use to me, and giftcards/credits from stores I shop at anyway. I certainly don't have any time or desire to go through entire shop and hop to first collect, then unpack, and finally delete things I wouldn't use anyway. I'm rather happy that LL started to post a stores list for those shop and hops with direct slurls a while ago, it makes checking it much easier as I usually just hop between 5-6, maybe 10 stores to check what they have there and call it done.
  12. At least 10 normal names will be coming after those rotate out in either 3.5 or 4.5 weeks, depends if LL will keep those up for New Year or not.
  13. 1.5 weeks or so? But the trending tab as always has more relevant information. No last 14d stats yet, but last week has -538 original Maitreya users and +710 for the X, or 24.57 new users found per day, the rest are swapping over (although given the 5.3 is provided in the X's folder as well, there might be a bit of new 5.3 users). Considering it was the "make an alt while things are cheap" season it's not all that great and people do not rush to swap at all. It'll be interesting to see how/if it'll speed up in... maybe 3 to 6 months, when there will be more X clothing, and more and more stores announce dropping 5.3 from their future releases. GenX or FailX how some call it... yeah, being on never ending 50% off sales for almost entire year, and they are still doing absolutely terrible. It's actually impressive just how terrible they are doing. That said I doubt there's actually that many active Isis/Freya users left, because total stats have one big flaw- if user with said body never seen again (quit/swapped to another account), then this detected entry/state stays there forever, while the users of those bodies/heads are not around anymore. Bonniebots give a bit better picture if you check there for daily stats. Combined (all versions seen) Freya is 199 today, GenX ones are like 40 for each body if combine all versions. Isis at 29.
  14. Very much depends what you're going to rezz. If it'll be 10k li worth of vendors or even worse, 10k worth of breedables, then yes, it'll go down by a lot. If it'll be mostly landscape, decor, some furniture, then you won't really notice it much. Besides in 2021 LL have improved their servers quite a lot, I used to have 2 to 4ms spare time in my (30k) region until they did, and after that it's 10-11ms spare time. Ocasionally after restarts my region ends up on the same sim-host with some busy regions (likely events, afk sex, or breedables infected regions) and I see lower spare time numbers, but a manual restart or two so it would change the sim-host is enough to fix this.
  15. ContraptioN never do big sales, only 1-2 discounted (usually by 25%) vendors in booths for their new releases around events whenever they join one. No idea about Fakeicon, and Toksik's sale you've missed, they always do it early along with some more stores from those few regions they are in (Miwas, Wings etc). https://www.flickr.com/photos/miwas_sl/53324256419/in/dateposted/
  16. Rezz it on the ground before dropping the script in. That's how it works with no-mod scripts.
  17. It does, yeah, so you'd need to make a few copies for different colors if you have something in more than one color.
  18. Blueberry does have a function to delete the script via HUDs for many years. Addams, however, does not, and many others. And for some weird reason it's those who don't have any ways to delete them are the ones that also often mess up the cuts too. Not limited to Maitreya sizes alone too, sadly.
  19. And this is one of many reasons why I set my region to private the moment I bought it and teleported in, and same was for the homestead I was renting for a while before I've decided to upgrade. Maybe someday you and people with your mindset will understand one simple thing, and it's the: I simply don't want other people/avatars around my place, unless I've invited them personally. I don't really need any other "reason". But that's probably a lost cause for some of you/them. Reminds me of an ancient introverts/extroverts thing. Certain (not all, thankfully) extroverts just can't possibly understand how in the world someone does not want to talk and/or "do stuff together" at any given moment, and start with "What's wrong? Why are you like that?" and similar kind of questions. While the answer/reason is usually all the same: I just don't want to. --- As for the topic itself. Flexi hair. All of them, old school ones and newer which are sometimes a mix of mesh and flexi. I know there's some flexi hair fans around the forums, but to me they did look awful from my very first days in SL 11 years ago.
  20. The current rotation happens only for and after some "events", like the recent Halloween one. They've rotated out 8 last names and added temporary Halloween ones, which are now replaced by 8 regular ones. Next rotation will be for Xmas most likely. Aside of that there're also rotations for SLB, Fantasy Faire, Valentine's, mother's and father's days. Perhaps I forgot about one or two more, but even with those it's 7 "special" rotations and 7 regular ones per year, although quanity of last names does vary, I believe mother's/father's day ones only had 3-4 options. From my observation it's the very unpopular ones that get rotated out to make a room for the holiday/new ones, while some popular ones stick around for ages.
  21. V-tech was available years before Maitreya flat, and if anything it did help a lot with its popularity for people who wanted such look. So in my opinion there're no redeeming factors for Maitreya in this case, not even one. Maitreya's (and its users) loss. I don't and never did use either V-Tech of flat mods myself, but I like some of his clothing quite a lot.
  22. Unlikely. Creator's take on Maitreya can be be found on store's flickr. TL:DR version: Maitreya ignored him for years, he didn't/doesn't even have an official devkit, and he finally got fed up with it.
  23. The latter. I've fixed the typo in the original post, too. It's been a long day with all early SL sales.
  24. It was one. When there were no universal neck standard and lots more people used system heads with the mesh bodies. These days if it's a quality skin in the same tone it doesn't need any of those "fixes" and looks good in any EEP. Then again there's a lot of subpar skins/creators out there, so there's that. --- As for the LaraX itself. I gave it a quick look, even if don't intend to use it. It might have been the "I wasn't expecting much and I was still disappointed" moment. I said it before it was released, and I will say it again. They should have took the risk and released an actually a new body that wouldn't be a compromise while breaking most of the existing clothing fitting while the body itself is "same old, same old, but now with some fixes".
