  1. You can call it whatever you want but I did say "or some other form of video conferencing". I used Skype as a reference because most people know what it is. Arguably far more than know what SL is. This is more likely the Lab's way or reaching out at a time of crisis to assist educators by offering a platform while everyone is "social distancing". While some may stay after the current crisis is abated it's unlikely they will remain once things normalize.
  2. Reality check, most businesses are more likely to use Skype or some other form of video conferencing. The only business Covid-19 is helping if you can call it that are those that make the products that people are fighting over at the local grocery and once people are finished hoarding their TP and hand sanitizer they'll realize they won't have to buy any for years so, it's really a short term gain. If people do come to SL it's going to be to escape RL but IMO are more likely to be playing the multitude of other games, watching TV shows and keeping up with the latest news.
  3. First place to look is here. Find the items in question then click
  4. First let me ask why must LL do anything at all? I believe that if it were in their best interest they would after all they've been doing it for seventeen years but since this is on the forums I believe real question is what can "we" do to look after new users. What I've heard from many new users is SL technically too challenging when compared the other "games" listed on this very forum which have very minimal customization in avatars and certainly environment I tend to agree. IMVU is about the closest thing I've found to SL and while it's not as customizable as SL it's a whole lot easier. The biggest hurdle is it's all just too much for the average person with a low spec machine. While having a house or land and yuge variety of shiny, free stuff sounds great to people that have been in world for 4, 8, 10 or 15 years and while better starter avatars would be awesome but they would still be starter avatars. Dial it back to when you were new compared to today and there's simply too many choices in addition to all the stuff you have to do before you feel confident to walk out into the world where people are often rude, won't talk to you simply because you're new and even call you names like "noob". Some people are lucky to find a someone who gives them something more valuable than premium and that's time and/or friendship. Someone who takes them under their wing and walks them through the most mundane of tasks and while a lot of times it's a thankless job, occasionally you get back ten fold what you put in. If YOU really want to "look after new users" then YOU have to be willing to sacrifice YOUR time and not LL or someone else's money.
  5. There's always gonna be some genius who trys to run SL on a Pentium D processor with 1GB of memory running Windows 95 whining on the forums that "SL SUX" because they can't get 144FPS on ultra.
  6. The point is adding even more people to an already overcrowded pool means more people that are currently paying to swim in that pool would be left high and dry. What business model gives away free samples of a product that's already in short supply and where do we line up for these free toilet rolls? Oh let me count the ways I could have an army of alts in a flotilla of LL boathouses buying me all kinds of gifts with their newfound free L$.
  7. The problem with giving away L$ is people would create throwaway accounts to grab those L$ and transfer them to their main account. If I were to buy L$ at the time of this post, L$2000 is $9.18 USD. Scammers creating an army of alts could rake in thousands of L$, buy a prim from their main for L$2000 or just straight up transfer it and then sell that back to the Lindex for real currency. Now, if there was some kind of promotional currency or token that could offset creators costs for uploads or even a % reduction in fees since they would be helping to retain new customers than that could be a possibility but it seems unlikely.
  8. Hmm, I'm new here let's see what is there to do? ... Ahh! A destination guide. Perfect! Ok, there 's some clubs, cool but I don't know anyone here and nobody talks they just kinda standing around "HELLO!" ...Hmm, I don't even know what is going on and what's Linden love? ... Oh, some RP areas alright that might be fun.... More people standing around "Hello!" ...maybe if I knew someone but it seems I'm being ignored. Is it because I'm the new person? ... Hmmm, three shopping events .... Well, I have no clue what I would buy even IF I had $ but I'll try some demos ... Weird, nothing fits me. What am I doing wrong? Ohh, here's some more stores ... I still don't have any money so, what let's see what else is there ... Five skill gaming regions ... Okay, I like games let's check that out ... Ohh, they want money to play and I still don't have any $. Welp, so much for that. Second Life is harder than RL, think I'll go back to playing Minecraft.
  9. I do not understand why so many people respond with "no" or not possible when this is a program where variables can be changed. It might not be easy but it is not impossible. As little as two years ago the answer to can we change our usernames was no but now it is transitioning from a possibility and will Soon™ be a reality. There is nothing wrong with someone asking for more, pushing the envelope beyond current technology or change. That is how this system has grown over the past almost 17 years. It's people asking the questions can it be done and the Lab figuring out how to make things happen. The day we stop asking for things to change is the day things stop changing. Your world. Your imagination* * within reason and as long as you agree with us or we will shout you down, pleb.
  10. Are you in a place where you can run scripts?
  11. Wait what? What's wrong with this one you made?
  12. Highrises could be super easy IF instead of houses everyone gets a building to live in, the interior could be more of a skybox/penthouse and the rest an empty shell. The first floor entrance could use experiences to TP you in and out of the home. Plus you wouldn't need as many prims for landscaping as it would be mostly concrete.
