  1. and the big names will have grabbed the prime spots long ago, yes. that said, renting a small place in a mall may be cheaper than renting or buying the same size parcel elsewhere, as most malls are there to offset the cost of running a sim in part, not to make a profit on the rent of the shop itself.

There are "Payment info required" bans, which really make me wonder why the owner only allows people who broadcast to sl that their avatar is connected to a paypal or credit card number. 2. Ther are "sl age" bans, which I feel is just plain snobby. 3. There are AV height bans. My character has a 5'4" shape that would have cost me 1000L if it wasn't a rezz day gift. So, pick my shape, and I won't pick your sim. 4. There are "age verification required" areas. Okay, this makes sense. But I'm going to read the describtion before I enter. I'm fine with R rated stuff. But I have no interest in X rated. 1) to prevent getting banned for supposed violations of the adult content rules, it's the closest you can do for an open sim to setting it to adult rated. btw anyone can see if you have payment info filed, it's in your profile. 2) those are plain discriminatory. But as a rudimentary anti-griefer measure I can somewhat understand them. Most griefers tend to get banned before they're 30 days old. 3) same as 1), a lot of people think that short avatar equals child avatar and will AR any adult rated sim where they see one (and any avatars interacting with a short avatar there). They're wrong, but to avoid the constant hassles, us shorties get restricted in our movements. 4) can't (except by buying an Adult rated sim) enforce that, sadly.

I would like idiotic comments like that to lead to an automatic lifelong ban... It's people like you who cause potential customers to run away and not even try SL. If you're so disgruntled and unhappy with SL, why don't you vote with your feet, cancel your account, and LEAVE? SL would be a better place without you no doubt, and you happier. Or are you paid to make such comments by a competitor?
  4. got a few emails (2-3) when I signed up, nothing after that...
  5. There was an economy. The only way for there not to be one is for nobody to make, share, sell, or buy anything whatsoever. As I know I did all those things almost (except selling stuff), there must have been an economy.
  6. it can happen if people tp out and others come in before the server notifies clients that they're gone. During a short interval your client may then see more than 20 people on the homestead. Any other attempt to enter a region that's at capacity will result in a failure (though technically it might be possible, maybe, for 2 tp requests to be handled at exactly the same time while there are 19 people in the region, and both being allowed, that would however need to be split second synchrisation).
  7. Amethyst Jetaime wrote: Its sad but most Lindens now travel the grid in god mode so you don't see them and they aren't picked up on radar or other detectors. The only time I've seen one lately was if he or she were doing something that required them to interact with a resident. I'm sure they wouldn't get much work done if they didn't go around in stealth mode as people would be stopping them all the time to ask questions or complain. THIS! Especially the constant flood of whining and griefing they'd be subjected to. Been there, done that, seen it happen to other CS people in other online communities. Most after a while have to create new accounts or avatars they don't reveal to anyone just so they're not constantly bombarded with harassment.
  8. Lindal Kidd wrote: Ewww. Why would anyone want to? yes and no. They look nice, but are extremely inefficient (counted prims in my Tahoe home, came to 60, I can probably make something nearly identical in about half that or less without using sculpties).
  9. each time you abandon your home to get a new one, you get a selection of the available homes at that time. As homes are built and abandoned, that list changes. It might also keep track of your previous home(s) and not offer those again for a while, not sure about that.
  10. never seen that happen except with mesh parts, and made some rather complex sculpties. Maybe if you blow them up extremely large the land impact might go up, but I've made sculpties of 10x10x0m that had a land impact of 1.

I tried a pair and they looked terrible, probably just couldnt do it right..so i need noob proof feet if possible Thanks :-) i have a really nice pair of mesh bare feet id tell you who made them cept im @ work & cant check inv it wasnt real easy using the hud to match the skin tone .. but i finally managed to do it so that the ankle line doesnt show changing nail polish is much easier they come with tattoos .. or not .. as you prefer i like these feet so much that i rarely wear shoes anymore Jeanne sounds like Gaeline. Colour can be a bit of a puzzle until you figure it out, it's highly flexible which makes it maybe a bit hard to learn.
  12. thought of another reason to subdivide: You've bought a weird shaped parcel because you liked the spot, and cut off some of the weird bits you can't use because they're just small, narrow, spikes for example, which you subsequently abandon, using the tier resulting to buy another adjacent parcel (if there is one) to extend your property and keeping a nice rectangle (or roadside triangle).
  13. and then there's the type and style of the building. If I'm building a small cottage or apartment things will be smaller than when it's to be an industrial warehouse or a castle.
  14. Second Gaeline. Easy to use, look great, fit with minimal effort (use them on 3 avatars, only had to ever change the ankle width on them by a tiny amount).
  15. "The fact that you're here that long and with no money, means that you are either incompetent (which I doubt) or don't have time to start doing some job. " Or just don't bother. Tons of free stuff to be had all over the grid, enough to keep you looking good and happy if your wishes aren't too specific in most cases. But yes, she's whiny and trying to make others feel bad for her for not getting land for free as well. And she probably doesn't recognise the work people put into making those freebies she gets out of MM boards, lucky chairs, and group gifts, probably whines to her friends about them being the wrong colour or something else is not quite as she'd like it, dissing the makers as well for good measure.
  16. Sigma Sella wrote:It's greedy people like this who are ruining SL grrrr Rant over no, it's people like you who think they can determine what other people should do with their property, how much they should value it (and thus, what price they should ask you if you want to have it, probably that price'd be L$0 of course, if not negative). You're the greedy one, wanting other peoples' property without consideration for the value those other people put on it. Now, L$10k for a plot that small is excessive, but they're free to ask that, you're free to not accept it. See, freedom all around. Maybe they think you're greedy for not wanting to sell your plot to them as well, but they're not complaining about it here.
  17. If it is His Wish, all will bow to His Noodly Appendage and the world shall be united under the Flying Spaghetti Monster.
  18. ah, "it sure doesn't look good". What are you still doing in SL? All you ever do is spread your ideas about doom and gloom... Or are you maybe working for a competing grid, trying to get people to abandon SL and try yours (yes, seen that kind of thing first hand doing support for a game company in the past, staff from a competitor blackmouthing our products on our support forums using multiple accounts, then "advise" to try their own product when asked privately what they'd recommend instead)?
  19. see the TOS. It's a TOS violation to REMOTELY monitor local chat (iow you must be on the scene and within chat range to be allowed to log local chat), or to monitor any OTHER AGENT's instant messages (meaning you can log your own IMs with someone, but not that other person's IMs with anyone except you yourself). And that's for personal use only. You're not allowed to publish any of that outside of SL, and IMs not even inside SL, without prior consent of all involved in the conversation. And no, a notecard inside that no-mod object with a text "by attaching this attachment you consent to your chat being logged and transmitted to an offworld server" doesn't count.
  20. yup, and many merchants are abusing direct delivery to send the very same boxes they were sending anyway. So people still need to unpack those boxes, something direct delivery was intended to do away with. May start making a list of lazy merchants doing that and reporting them all.

Would it Kill the makers of the viewer to pop up with a dialogue box in my middle of my screen, saying something like the following: Are you sure that you want everyone to be able to copy? This may cause your objects and scripts to be copied by anyone in a sandbox! [ ] No [ ] Yes, I want anyone to copy this object. [ ] Yes, and stop warning me. I believe , in the case in which a clear warning was flashed at the user as above, we could plausibly say it was "pretty clearly described". Why can't the government come and put padding around everything in my house I have ever stubbed my toe on or bumped my head into? Oh, and that hammer! Damn, when I hit my thumb I wanted to get my attorney to file a law suit because the tool maker didn't warn me how much it could hurt. oooh, but that's not enough! The maker of my screwdriver did warn me and I still hurt myself, they clearly didn't do enough to prevent me hurting myself so I deserve a gazillion dollars in compensation!
  22. another one to check out if DrLife, easily the best skins I've found so far. Or *Estel*, a newcomer, but her skins look nice too (not a lot of them so far, but looks promising).
  23. we use one orb to protect a small part of our sim above and beyond the group access (it's a private area only part of the land group has access to). It's easy to mark off such areas. A line of trees, a fence, a hedge, should be enough. If people jump that fence, their fault if they get ejected (though we've added an extra barrier in the form of a transparent prim running the length of each boundary, running up to above jump height).
  24. Knowl Paine wrote: I'm guilty, it was me. I don't want a wrecked angle, I wanted a square. The last person to touch the land (a linden), thought it would be a good idea to revert 22,000 sqm on a hill side, rendering most of the surrounding land unusable. The only way to make any sort of flat area, is to purchase the surrounding land, edit terrain, and then abandon it. When editing terrain, it is sometimes necessary to subdivide some land sections, because of the way the land shears differently at each adjacent property line. No sane person will buy that 22,000 sqm, I have no idea what the Linden plan is, somebody (LL) needs to chop that into useable peices, and bit the bullet on the fragmented plots. Most likely the last tenant before LL got it back made that weird shaped parcel by abandoning pieces around it at one time or another, or by buying parcels around his/her initial plot and combining them all until that shape was created, the other owners in the sim may have refused to sell until after the land was abandoned and left in that shape. Maybe LL could go over abandoned land and manually divide and subdivide it into nice shaped parcels as much as possible before putting it up for sale, but that's labour intensive and they just don't have the manpower.
