  2. Again; Why does it matter (OP's post)? Now for some real game industry stats, without all the back and forths lets get some real stats. Of course no one will care about these, and ignore it everytime facts are presented, it stands nonetheless. Females overwhelmingly played a female main character, at 93.12%. Males preferred to play male characters, but nowhere near the same extent: 65.73% had a male main character. Transsexual players followed the trend of their gender identity, with male-to-females (n = 20) playing 95% female mains and female-to-males (n = 17) playing 70.59% males. Though the numbers were small (n = 18), it is interesting that transsexual players identifying as neither male nor female both preferred to play female mains: 100% of males and 75% of females. 68.97% of those who did not give a gender played a female main. Just like the OP and others want to back their issues with 'toxic males in SL' with their experiences, then they should expect that those same males have a reason to request voice of those they may not think are being real.

  4. I agreed that many men use female avatars. Again this is very common for MMO, RPG type games , and Second Life due to the customizing of avatars is most likely the same. Not that I run into this problem myself - my presence in SL is to build, create, sell and explore worlds. But back in the day on many games it was common to find out men exploiting other men by dressing as female characters - so some of us want to know - Now we're hiding gender from each other too now? Men are going to react to a sexy lady, and they are going to do so. It's a fact of reality and how you and I came into existence - because a man found a woman attractive and wanted to have children with her. All you are seeing playing out here is normal biological imperatives - and for most males advertising your sexuality or appearing sexually available is going to get them to react to you. Why this is such a surprise to many here, and they want to make it an issue and want to not face reality is beyond me.

That's how I might do it, break up the entire piece into smaller pieces.. but still 1024px/32 m = 32px/ m Texel Density... still gonna look blurry, higher texture load for the server, and you'll have to cover up that blurriness with mesh objects, ground cover, bushes, trees anyway I would probably start off with a general texture like the grass, then maybe forest edge then a forest floor type thing, and yes the transitions will be seen, but the tiling will be better, then use meshes and the rest and go from there...

OP posted; Even she realizes this is a truth, but many here are refusing to maybe consider doing something that will minimize unwanted attention based on how you dress. This same concept has been discussed in real life. Dress sexy and you will get more attention from guys. What's so confusing about this? Don't want that attention? Then change your profile, change your avatar, have a version that is conservative or w/e you gotta do. Anything is better than listening to the cries of victimhood on the forums everyday for problems that can easily be solved.

We have a definition to agree on, we have examples of the context and fashion of.. so why do you continue to argue the meaning and context of a word as your only response?
  8. Who told anyone how to dress? See this is where vocabulary and comprehension matters. The word 'conservative' has a very clear definition and it's use in context: "marked by or relating to traditional norms of taste, elegance, style, or manners" Fishnets, slinky boots, harnesses, piercings are not considered conservative. It's not MY definition, it is a definition that is defined and agreed upon and accepted widely, as to facilitate proper communication between people, and to help understanding. Not on my watch are you going to do that You go girl, you do you - but don't cry about unwanted attention based on your choices of how you present yourself, and most importantly you are denying reality.

There's also a position I've heard women say on the same matter: "Just because someone is dressed sexy doesn't mean they want sex" "My daughter should be able to wear a skimpy bikini and not have guys lusting after her" These statements may be true, but just not based in reality and how people will NORMALLY react to certain stimuli. No need to villainize or victimize a group based on this, but to realize that yes, how we act how we dress, where we go at what hour, what neighbourhood, and with who ALL has an effect, and one MUST TAKE RESPONSIBILITY to make decisions to keep themselves safe.

I'm assuming that you are conservatively dressed, and just doing your thing and not actually dressed up as a 'sex-toy' looking sexually provocatively styled avatar which of course would gain that attention? Cuz remember, there are lots of stories of unwanted attention, yet one party or the other were dressed a certain way - and attracting a certain group of people. Just as much as some would see a 'sexy' avatar and assume it's for sexy-time purposes and approach with that in mind, vs such as myself - not in Second Life for any of that, not interested in sex palaces, sex beds or sex play, but just creating and sharing with people. Deny it at your own peril - how you present yourself can certainly affect how others see and treat you - and who you attract. Don't want to attract sex-hungry 'dogs', then don't present yourself as a slab of meat
  12. 1) Because the others died. Sansar, HIFI 2) Because there are no entry barriers in Second Life. Day One you can start creating, sharing and even if fast enough be selling what you make with very little requirement or prerequisite other than "It's my work I will be uploading" - VR Chat requires you to grow your friends list to a certain level before even being able to upload into the world - VR Chat and others require outdated Unity engine version or their own custom SDK to upload to worlds (more barriers) - Sinespace and others are similar to this requiring their own proprietary upload methods from custom SDKs 3) Second Life has a marketplace. Though $$$ is not my driving factor in creating things, it is most certainly a nice feature to be able to create some $$ for yourself, to pay your premiums, to have $$ to respend into the marketplace, and if you're making enough sales, the ability to transfer it out to real world dollars to help you pay for software, computer upgrades, etc so that you can continue to do so. Also, there is always a possibility that you can make some decent passive income for yourself to supplement your life - who wouldn't want that? You win, linden lab wins.
  13. We most definitely can. No file format is guaranteed forever, and yes some older models and methods and scripts will break - but so what. Some SL creators moved to Sansar which used a newer format , PBR textures, newer technology, and you could upload FBX models and without any requirement for LOD models (loved that!). Yet I did see some SL creators simply repurpose models I've seen them use and sell in SL and use them in game, update them to PBR, and sell them on the marketplace there too. I understand how some creators (getting on their age) don't want to have to recreate anything or rebuild everything - but other than animations, interaction and how those are presented, it's not that they couldn't upgrade and update without starting from scratch. SL is getting long in the tooth, and will always face this problem. On Sansar we had to deal with some major changes - it being a beta stage program - and many of us lost a ton of work and though frustrating - it was to be expected so what can you do? Just retool your clothing, skins, accessories, etc to fit the new format and hope that there aren't more drastic changes soon. If anything now that could change the load on people's computers when entering worlds in Second Life (and from my observations using console and dev tools) that the biggest cause of lag is texture use - using too many textures, large sizes etc, AND they are not counted into the Land Impact of an object at all. I will be punished for uploading a 12 tri cube at 4m in Land Impact than I will a 4800 tri object that is less than 1m. Importer ignores and doesn't care if the object is textured with 1024 X 8 faces texel density, or 256px texel density on 1 material. Completely ignores it but in the world one object will load and unload from memory so much faster.. My point is : At some point "It might break old stuff" no longer carries when it is inevitable that a platform change is needed. The thing is, Sansar could have fulfilled this function, and creators could have used both (as I did), and slowly moved over to a newer technology and engine with ease. (as I did). Gotta happen sometime and delaying the inevitable is only going to make it more painful - or worse SL will simply fade away and become niche like the Sims 2 marketplace
  14. From what I read about this topic and others, I think people read into things way too much - and usually leaning towards considering it a negative experience. This might be part of their own trauma and mental issues and I hope they can find their way out of it. For me and others - it just becomes tedious and can even ruin our own experience and view of Second Life and its members - when everyone is so touchy, sensitive or just quick to react when our intentions are good - and THAT aspect should also be treated as a toxic influence on a community - right along with the more obvious toxic behaviours. Although I don't enjoy this back and forth on these topics with people, if I don't say anything to the contrary, than the majority of posters with this bad attitude paint Second Life as a place filled with harassers, griefers and creeps.
  15. 1) Too high vertice count, as has already been stated 2) You used automated LODs in importer, so it will decide how to 'decimate', 'break down' or as you said 'deform' the necklace as it sees fit - and usually the results are not the best 3) Yes people upload high vertice/triangle items - not all, but many. Please create a habit of uploading efficient models And this goes to - you have graduated to now learning how to work with High Poly models, How to Bake them Down to a Lo-Poly model, and even how to Create LOD models for use in Second Life. Sure this necklace isn't pretty (I only did quick texture Create a low poly mesh Apply a multiresolution modifier, subdivide or other technique where you can Sculpt details. Learn the technique to bake the high poly (sculpted) model to the lesser, more efficient low poly model. Texture in the software of your choice. Learn about and create LOD models for Second Life and tell the importer how you want to represent each stage of the LOD My result for example is about 544 tris and could probably do more. Just wanted to demonstrate how one could have a lot of detail without a lot of vertex/tri counts.
  16. That being said relying on a click mechanic and having to hide it for secret doors may not be the best answer anyway. What happens is that a player will be trained that they may find a secret door by clicking, so will end up clicking on every wall in your world/experience/game and that doesn't seem like fun. So sometimes a highlight, or the fact that you DO have a finger cursor when you mouse over the 'secret wall' will still be useful as a clue that they CAN click on what looks like a wall. The 'door' is only a secret door by operation only, but LOOKS like any other wall.. the only clue that something is up, that when you mouse over it the click action icon gives a clue. Since you can't do dice rolls for PERCEPTION of a player in SL, it would almost be enough to leave this kind of thing in, and disguise the door instead. A better solution that has been used is to create a subtle clue that something is out of place, like a slight crack in the wall, or even simply having a wall with the same texture as the rest, but there is no physical blocking, so the player can find it by accident - a false wall. Or as Molly has mentioned have a visible switch somewhere that activates or opens a door nearby (Quake style).

Ok, I did that, but I only get the behaviour when I remove the touch_start() event out of the default script (apparently if commenting out too) , which would defeat the purpose, because we want a touch event, but to not signal it with an icon. (latest test via Firestorm). I wonder if OP solved the problem or not, no response
  18. Best thing to do is contact the creator of the item, and inform them of your desired use case, and see if they can help you or include those added features in the same or future products. Object->General->Click To: "None" I tested this in SL Viewer and Firestorm on a scripted object I was making, but the cursor remains - perhaps because there is a touch event inside the script... I could see this feature being disabled if there is actually a touch-driven event in a script, so that people don't click on things unknowingly or other safety reasons.

Hasn't that been the eternal question for as long as the internet has been in operation, and people simply don't use the tools at their disposal to manage their exposure to others whom they deem to cause them such anguish? It's because they actually love the drama, and/or they prefer the excitement and satisfaction they get from instead pushing it and pushing it and attempting to incite the other party into doing something that they can then report them with - and then stand back and with glee watch as an authority figure metes out 'justice' on the 'offender' on their behalf. Many so-called 'victims' on social media are just manipulators in disguise, and this is their entertainment. The tools of their trade may be claiming to be the victim, projecting their own attitude and behaviours on others, villianizing and scapegoating other individuals or groups, gaslighting, misrepresenting what someone said, not actually having a discussion, cherry-picking, accusing, tattle-taling and just general mind games - until the other person gets mad enough. Why block someone when you can try to toy with them instead? All any reader of these forums have to do is read the posts people make, and come to their own decisions as to their motivations. I try not to block or ignore others in general as I find it a great practice to improve a discipline in how I react to others - but I must say in the last 3 years or so - it's coming to the point that there is no meeting in the middle with people, no common ground, and when their constant goals themselves is to censor and cancel others - one might as well oblige them and return to them the actions that they constantly advocate. The funny thing is, there isn't much posters left to read here now, seem to be about 20 posters who do the majority of it - for them it must be a full time job.
  20. And many times, some of us are just saying "Hello", and now regret even bothering. Too many have chips on their shoulders and mental issues - and you never know which one is going to get set off. By the posts on these forums, there are many, so why does anyone bother with the social space. Don't worry, I will never try to talk to you inworld, wouldn't ever want you to feel put upon or threatened or harassed.
  21. Another accusation. And insult in the form of using 'touch grass'. touch grass... really? Wow. "Used when someone is doing something weird, stupid, or pointless. it means they need to come back to reality, they need to get some fresh air and get back in touch with how the real world works." I have made it clear time and time again when I have responded to you (and have had to make strong points) that I have nothing against you, that I am not addressing you personally, but only the statements or ideas you present. I'm okay with you disagreeing with me, and you with me. All I hope that happens is that we understand where each is coming from. I'm also being as respectful and helpful as best I can to point out when you might be overly negative about something. Look up all my posts with "Coffee Pancake" referred to and the truth about my attitude towards you be revealed .. But now, my patience is running out. You claim you are attacked all the time, but all you do is attack. I guess there is no point to ever address you again since you keep doing this. Typical disrespect that you afford others, while you continue to claim to be a victim.
  22. Excuse my cynicism, but it would result in a yet another spotlight of Raspberry Singh, or yet another spotlight on Bryn Oh, and all the typical names. Why would I and other average users care. Community meant those 'in the loop' and not the rest of us in practice, so I am very skeptical.
  23. In theory,I have no issues with this sort of thing. In practice, the term 'community' scares me now, because by experience 'community' and 'family' and 'inclusivity' usually means I'm excluded. So good luck with that. See all of us can be discouraged, traumatized as well when one group gets more attention than the other, or special treatment. After 2 years of being 'excluded' in real life, having my income destroyed and opportunities destroyed, savings destroyed and starting from scratch - I know full well what a 'safe space' can do, I learned both of these on virtual platforms that failed in the past and in real life events.
