What if I make 10 accounts (alts) and log in 10 times on my computer (on most modern computers that's easy as pie). And then I walk away and do other things. But if one of my alts gets an IM from someone, I check it out and respond, if I feel like it. Are all these accounts bots? Or are they all real people (me)? How is Linden Lab supposed to distinguish between a 'normal' user and a 'bot-like' user? How do you even begin to define these things?

SL's trying to compensate with a new function, https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/LlRezObjectWithParams This is great for shooting games, but with one big assumption: the rezzing object is assumed to be owned by the shooter. This excludes all shooting vehicles from rezzers that are used by non-owners of these vehicles. I such a case, the projectiles rely on a fast on_rez time.

On_rez response time used to be 20 milliseconds. Later it was changed to 2 seconds, in most sims, but not all. It's still unknow whether this is a bug or a feature. Nevertheless, the delayed on_rez response broke a lot of shooting games in sl. Now, my sim is registering >7 seconds. WTH, SL?

What if houses were... free?

I, on the other hand, do understand why we didn't get a private place that we could call home in SL for free. But look at it from the bright side! Air and drinks and food can be found for totally free in lots of places in SL. And you can sleep in a cardboard box in Calleta for 0 L$. -
I mostly suck at predicting the future. Whenever someone asks what will happen next, I always warn them first that whatever prediction I come up with, it's usually wrong. It is the safest method to have many I told you so moments.

Since https://status.secondlife.com/ is often reporting incidents quite late or not at all, maybe this thread can serve as a sort of early reporting thing to which anyone can relate. Also concentrating all the "I can't log in' messages to a single thread might be convenient. "I'm experienceing [insert ailment]. I wonder if anyone else experiences this too at the moment." I can't log in with my main account at the moment. "Despite our best efforts, something went wrong." But I can log in with all my alts. Anyone currently experiencing the same? Anyone knows what's going on? A friend of mine experienced the same days ago. Is there some sort of rolling asset server maintenance going on? It's not (yet) mentioned on the SL Status website.

The current score: 3 x yea, 9 x nay The nays have it. Forum resolution 504340 adopted: including a link to your sim in your auto response is not spam.
-
Someone accused me of being a spammer once, because I had a link to my sim in my profile. So, whereas I would not consider such stuff spam, other people might.

Oh hell yes! -- Pet Delights!

More chonky! Some obscure pen company in the far east released a knock-off of the legendary Japanese fountain pen that goes by the name of Pilot Custom Urushi. Needless to say, the fake one comes at a fraction of the cost. I'd rather spend my hard-earned money on a car or a new kitchen instead of the original pen. Yet, I could not let the opportunity go by to at least get that fake one, just to get a feel of it chonkyness. Final verdict: way to big (15,6 cm long, 2 cm wide at the cap), practically unusable for anyone but Hulk Hogan or Dwayne Johnson, and way, waay too heavy (70 g)! Sailor Pro II Gear Slim (12.5 cm, 17 g) for size comparison. Excuses for the hand writing. I wasn't wearing my reading glasses. -
You want realism? [Insert diabolical laughter] Forget about ball pits for men in stores where their ladies are shopping, or untangling the knots in your hair or stepping in dog poo. Airways and circulation. Make sure there's enough oxygen in the air and enough ventilation to expell CO₂, or your avatar goes horizontal. Also, make sure their heart keeps pumping, requiring a continuous supply of oxygen and nutrients through eating and drinking. The rest is just details. And how about hardcore mode? Is your avatar dying from asphyxia, dehydration, malutrition or various kinds of shock? Boom, your account gets deleted.

For your daily dose of dopamine, it's best to just play a nice in-world table game of sorts .

SL used to have something like this for residents, ratings for 'Behavior', 'Appearance' and' Building' (skills). I vaguely remember it used to cost 1L$ to rate someone. It's last remnants can be found on the Linden Scripting Language Wiki page: https://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/DATA_RATING

[Somethingsomething] Sideways -
Yes, but it just got infinitely worse for no reason. I'm not even angry that my own products end up lower (basically out of sight all together, but whatever). It's just infuriating that the top search results are beyond ridiculous. A random grab from the database would come up with more relevant results. I wish I was joking with that statement, but it almost seems deliberate. I can't go into specific details because of the forum ToS, but just to give a few vague examples: Search for 'game'. First result: I don't even know what the hell this product is supposed to be. No picture, no sensible description. It has nothing to do with games. And it comes up at #1 in Relevance. Second result: a Squid Game mask that screams copyright infringement. Third result: a 3D model of a gaming console that does absolutely nothing. The object description is pure sarcasm (which, in its own right, I can appreciate): "The sleek design of this game console [it's a black plastic box, ffs] will fill your Second Life with endless hours of fun and joy. Invite your friends over to gaze at the wonder. Take pictures and show your family. Fill your social media feed with image after image of this amazing piece of modern art." Search was fine. it was not perfect. But now it's not even broken anymore. It's anti-search.

Somewhere at the beginning of this year, LL decided to 'improve' the Relevance-based search algorithm on MP. This was, in my opinion, a total failure. About two months ago, they seem to have decided to roll it back to its old form. As of yesterday, September 16, 2023, they seem to have re-introduced it. Same, in my opinion, dysfuntional upgrade. Same utterly irrelevant* search results. What the hell, Linden Lab? Do you think no one notices? Surely even you must see a substantial decline in your 10% commission revenue as a direct result of your experiments? ------- * Mostly very old items that are in many cases only marginally related to the search keywords
