This is already true of L$. I wonder why someone would even want to suggest that this is not the case for the current L$ currency. Sounds like either the OP is clueless or they want to deliberately misinform SL newbies.

I am really very curious what those levels and dangers are, when spending time in SL, and how they compare to ending up on mount Everest, dead from exhaustion and freezing, from suffocating through lack of oxygen, or from slipping, falling hundreds of feet and crashing into razor-sharp rocks.
-
1. I don't think this applies to most other situations a lot at all. I think 99.999% of all highly motivated people aren't planning on climbing mount Everest at all. 2. I think most mountaineers are already quite calm. I imagine you need to be too, especially during challenging and life-threatening situations during climbing. I agree with the 'maybe', though. Maybe some people are motivated to do bad things. To them, this definitely applies.

Mr AnonyMoose Strikes Again

I think I've been there. It has a very dark rocky beach and a small pub where minors hang out all day, taking turns playing the slot machine, right? -
Mr AnonyMoose Strikes Again
Arduenn Schwartzman replied to GoSpeed Racer's topic in General Discussion Forum
I got a very kind and warm-hearted Happy Holidays from Mr. Moose, and an apology for not buying the one thing on my wish list: https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/Premium-Golden-Egg-Exclusive-by-MostlyPantyhose/16609751 Because he may be generous, but he's not crazy. -

Sixteen years ago, as a newbie, I had the good fortune of landing in Calleta, the home of the Hobos. This was a group of very friendly, creative, and helpful people. Had I landed at Waterhead or any other regular Infohub, I might never have stayed in SL for this long. I think that the problem that Chris71i highlights, bullying newcomers, although maybe not a new one, is definitely something that has significant impact on the engagement of new players in SL. I can also imagine that this has been a headache for many Lindens and has been the cause of many corporate Linden brainstorm sessions. Nonetheless, judging from the OP's impression, it seems that the problem persists. Maybe, new guidelines will work. The word 'guidlines' alone, however, might just scare away people from SL too.

There seems to be two laws of nature in SL, or in any metaverse, for that matter: 1. Bigger is more 'beautiful'. People rez more stuff to make it 'prettier'. 2. Also, bigger is slower. The more prims and scripts you add to a land, the slower it becomes to load and render for anyone. So much for the First and Second Law of Captain Obvious. 'Beauty' and speed are two trade-offs that will always reach an equilibrium in SL, no matter how hard humanity's internet speed and computer speed will increase over time. The amount of prims and scripts added to a land will always reflect, in the worst case, the level of 'tolerable' of the creator and, in the best case, the level of 'tolerable' of their average visitor.

It's indeed an object deeded to group. There's a sneaky little object hidden inside the rental boxes that's used to automatically return tenants' objects when their rent has expired. I deeded a plywood box to group and it turned purple instantly in the Mini Map. And then I deleted it and it was gone instantly from the map again. Funny that after 15 years in SL I never noticed these purple things, until now. The fact that they sometimes disappear probably has something to do with some object awareness and 'field of view' for the Mini Map that's somewhat different from the field of view in your main viewport.

Is Second Life still a place for creatives?

Quite the contrary. Sounds like an opportunity. I say: go for it. Get creative! -
Will the pie become any bigger?
Arduenn Schwartzman replied to Bold Burner's topic in General Discussion Forum
Oh. Ok. (I was of course being sarcastic. I am aware that asking for medical advise on an internet forum is the dumbest thing you can do). And what about advice on making investments? You think this is the right place to ask? Then again, maybe I misunderstood the OP's question, because 1. I imagine most people are quite clueless about investing/speculating, but are willing to give their 'expert' advise nonetheless, which is probably as valuable as the advise given by the late Mr. Goxx, and 2. if there are real experts out here, I imagine they either keep their mouths shut or give the OP misleading advise for their own financial benefit. Maybe the OP means whether it's worthwhile roleplaying a real estate investor in SL? Only if you have 1. a nice logo and a catchy company name, 2. a nice business suit and 3. a skybox decorated as an expensive-looking office. In that case, I can highly recommend Second Life. -
Will the pie become any bigger?
Arduenn Schwartzman replied to Bold Burner's topic in General Discussion Forum
From a zero-sum game point of view, to scare away any new, potential competitors, I'm obliged to tell you: no, the pie is shrinking. Big time. Don't do it. In other news: can anyone on this forum give me some medical advise? -
Does that imply you want L$ but are you are willing to work for them neither in SL nor in RL? First off: L$ and real-world currencies are interchangeable, L$ aren't just play money like in a game of Monopoly. That said, I'm afraid even begging for L$ requires a minimal amount of labor, so I'm afraid you'll have to go to another universe, where the second law of thermodynamics will be more favorable to you. Good luck!

All I Want for Christmas is "Skip Intro"
Arduenn Schwartzman replied to Prokofy Neva's topic in General Discussion Forum
Heavens no. That's way too simple and way too fast. You would want to add an extra step. First 'Skip Intro' and then 'Login'. There's a Dutch proverb: "Why do it the easy way, when you can do it the hard way?" -
All I Want for Christmas is "Skip Intro"
Arduenn Schwartzman replied to Prokofy Neva's topic in General Discussion Forum
I have to admit that that in-your-face Dr. Manhattan Smurf Elf Thing being the poster avatar and apparently the embodiment of SL is rather cringe-worthy. To me it indicates a disconnect between the LL marketing team and what SL is all about (at least, for me). But then again, what is the 'average SL avatar' anyway? I'm pretty sure the makers of that video had a lot of fun. And it must have cost quite a fortune to make. It's the lamest excuse for not making a bookmark. Better yet: when I type in 's' in the URL bar, it auto-fills to 'https://secondlife.com/my/'. But f** pragmatism, right? Embrace the suffering. -
