I would recommend dropping it from download. For people who want the 1.x style, there are TPVs. More modern and now patched. I consider 1.23.5 obsolete and not worth patching. I would never recommend it to anyone -- I favor the 2.x design of the LL Standard or Firestorm, but recommend Phoenix or Imprudence for people who want the older design. Thinkerer

Thinkerer Melville replied to ChrisC1990's topic in Favorite Destinations
I post information about art events on my blog: http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/ But I only post public events and public places. I think the best known art activity in SL is at the University of Western Australia: Virtual Outworlding: Artists alert: UWA 3D Open Art Challenge ... http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/05/artists-alert-uwa-3d-open-art-challenge.html -

Here is general info on how to stream from Shoutrcast Guide to streaming audio. Shoutcast. Performances. http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/03/kit-guide-to-streaming-audio-shoutcast.html

You need some background in straming audio into SL. Here are good sources. What you need to know to hear/see audio and video http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/01/kit-music-and-video-hear-and-see.html Streaming Music into SL http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Streaming_Music Guide to streaming audio. Shoutcast. Performances. http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/03/kit-guide-to-streaming-audio-shoutcast.html You can play audio from any web site to people who are using shared media (Viewer 2 or comparable). You can stream into a parcel from streaming sources like shoutcast, but notice that the streaming url is not the same as the web page url -- the guide above tells you how to get the streaming url. People make objects that loo like radios to control streaming audio, but this is just cosmetic. What you actually do is set the audio stream for the parcel (old method) or set up a web page on a prim (Viewer 2). TKR

This may clarify: Why do I have a negative balance in Lindens? The peope who will pay are those who have roles allowing them to pay group liabilities. If no one has such a role, the charge will go to the owner. TKR -

Second Life Viewer Updates
Thinkerer Melville replied to MiniSchnauzer Monday's topic in Second Life Viewer
There are multiple viewers that will run SL. There is a standard viewer that is offered at the SL website. For your objectives that one is probably the best to use . There are frequent updates, but that viewer is supposed to update itself automatically. When one ot the professors logs on to SL, the download would happen in the background. After the DLD is complete the professor would get a notice that an update is ready to install. If the Professor has admin rights, the professor would jutst approve the install. On my PC, install talkes less than a minute. If the professors don't have admin rights, you would have to do the install for them. I don't know that the new viewers are always required updates. That does seem to have been the case recently. At the present, the intstalls have been coming about once every 2 months. I am not sure what you mean by the Beta version, but I don't think you would want to use something with that designation. Anyhing like that would probably have more frequent changes. There are third party viewers that will have updates, but the updated may not be required. Here is a link: http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Third_Party_Viewer_Directory In general, it is not necessary (or desireable) to remove the previous version before updating. There are config files that survive the normal update and carry over previous settings. There are usually also log files that may contain important conversations or other data. Keep that in mind if you do a clean update. One common step in troubleshooting is a clear update, but I would only do this in the case of run failires. Here is a web page I maintain. You may find the troubleshooting section useful. http://thinkerer.org/SLintChan/SLiHoboKitonWeb.htm -

Private Themed Region Invoice Issues
Thinkerer Melville replied to Hetty Harlequin's topic in General Discussion
Good . about the lindens -- dont't assume that they will be transferred to you automatically. They would be transferred to a dollar account (or UK equivalent). The av who owns the sim should check the dashboard associated with the account to see if funds have been deposited. It will be up to that av to transfer the funds to Lindens. Or the av could simply try to buy Lindens as see what happens. TKR -

Private Themed Region Invoice Issues
Thinkerer Melville replied to Hetty Harlequin's topic in General Discussion
I expect to post a blog about this, but first would like to get some more info: The person who does have access to the sim must be listed as the owner. Normally the owner can can control who can enter the sim. What happens when the person tries to set the access to let other people come in? When you say no L's to build with, are you saying that you have not received a stipend or that you are also unable to transfer funds into your SL account from the account set up by the university? If the latter, did the university set up any arrangement to pay additional money beyond the cost of the land? -
I have not heard of any widespread login problems with viewer 2.6.3. Since you have 2 names, be sure you are putting a period between them. Thinkerer.Melville
