  1. You can show YouTube videos (or any other video that you can see in your browser) Here is information about that: Preferences: Media. Sound. Prim browsers. Video http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/06/kit-preferences-media-sound-prim.html Control the multimedia in Viewer 2.7 http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/06/kit-control-multimedia-in-viewer-27.html Promote your Second Life events inworld http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/03/kit-promote-your-second-life-events.html TKR
  2. I have seen solutions to both webkit errors and DNS errors, but I don't think they apply t o you. Here they are: media_plugin_webkit problem from Bigfoot http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/07/kit-mediapluginwebkit-problem-from.html DNS not resolving host name. Mac problem, rare. Possible fixes http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/06/kit-dns-not-resolving-host-name-mac.html If you dont get a good solution from your post here and you will get your new machine in a week or so, I think it would be best to wait. And, BTW, note this re Win 7: Windows 7 -- 64 bit -- Second Life -- No problems http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2010/08/windows-7-64-bit-second-life-no.html
  3. I don't know about this warning in particular, but the advice correctly applies to all email. Always doubt the source of email. Never give private information (such as a password) in response to an email request. If you feel a need for action, follow your normal method of accessing the site and check the status or change your password. And if you get email like this without a warning attached to it by your email service, maybe you want to change your email service. My Gmail puts such messages in my spam box with a red warning banner, I may even find that message the next time I look in my spam folder. TKR
  4. Here are suggesions I have picked up: Jobs, Ads, TreasureHunt. JobFox brings it together http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/06/kit-jobs-ads-treasurehunt-jobfox-brings.html Become a Linden Hunter! http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/05/newcomer-become-linden-hunter.html Inworld Employment (Linden) http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Inworld-Employment/bd-p/InworldEmployment TKR
  5. I am running V3 on win 7 with no problems. Here is the info I have on potential problems with Win 7/64 bit Windows 7 -- 64 bit -- Second Life -- No problems http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2010/08/windows-7-64-bit-second-life-no.html It looks like you have done everything right (and more carefully than I do). Just a hunch: Can you try a different router? TKR
  6. Keep me informed -- If this develops into something, I might want to blog on it. http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/ TKR
  7. Here is infomation that I have on video/machinima in SL: Video: Machinima: Second Life: Summary http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/08/video-machinima-second-life-summary.html What do we do in Second Life http://thinkerer.org/SLintChan/SLiHoboKitonWeb.htm#What_do_we_do_in_Second_Life Media and art http://thinkerer.org/SLintChan/SLiHoboKitonWeb.htm#Media TKR
  8. Best depends on the user, the use, and the familiarity. Yo can get more familiar with Viewer 2.8 (the current version). Here is the table of contents for my tutorials about Second Life, including more than you ever wanted to know about Viewer 2.x. Hobo Kit: Table of Contents http://thinkerer.org/SLintChan/SLiHoboKitonWeb.htm Regarding sound issues, I don't know of any genreral issue with streaming audio in Phoenix or 1.23. If you are using Phoenix or Firestorm and have a persistent sound problem, I recopmmend that you join the Phoenix/Firestorm viewer support group. (Find it in Search and join.) You can then ask for help from them TKR
  9. Hobo Island has a sandbox with a lot of beach. Machinima is permitted. Hobo island is a sim; open the map and type the name in the search bar. Or look for it here: Builds at Hobo Island http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/07/creation-builds-at-hobo-island.html Here is a Linden List: Machinima Friendly Sims http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Machinima_Friendly_Sims TKR
  10. Any estate manager can restart the sim. The owner may have appointed estate managers. You may be able to see the estate manager list. Here is info about the estate manager controls: Region, sim, parcel. Knowing the difference. http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/06/kit-land-region-sim-parcel-knowing.html You can't use the controls, but you may be able to find an estate manager who can. Otherwise, I dont know of anything you can do -- on this occasion. The usual practice in renting a whole sim is to appoint the renter as estate manager. TKR
  11. Check my blog. http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/ I write about things like that. Let me know it you have something thai I might post. TKR
  12. You can make a poster that displays a web page. You can update the web page anytime you want. You can make the poster wearable, so the person can read it without rez rights. I have such posters out on Cookie (a sim) You can get free copies there in the welcome kit. Here is post about this: Posterize your blogs in Second Life http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/04/posterize-your-blogs-in-second-life.html TKR
  13. Tha depends on whether you have to move both regions. If there is room for a new sim next to one of yours, and building is allowed there, you can move just the other one for $150. Check the map and see. You will have to get permission from any sims that would be adjacent to incoming sim. You can submit a ticket with the proposed move. The Lindens will tell you If building is not allowed. if you cannot build, you will need to move both sims. I expect that will cost you for 2 moves = $300. TKR

  22. Here is info I have posted: Owning Land in Second Life. Starter section http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/01/kit-owning-land-in-second-life-starter.html A parcel you buy or rent will come with an allocation of prims, included in the cost. You can get a Linden home, with land, included in the cost of the premium account. If you want land in a specific place, you will probably have to buy it at a cost additionl to the maintenace cost. You can rent without a premium account. But be careful Rent from an established landlord who has a lot of properties. And dont rent for a long period. You have little recourse if the sim closses before the rental term. TKR
