Second Life randomly closes with no error message
Thinkerer Melville replied to Jane Corvale's topic in Second Life Viewer
This is about one cause of random logouts Get logged out a lot? Check your router http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/01/kit-get-logged-out-lot-check-your.html thinkerer -
Here is information I have picked up on the forums about that: DNS not resolving host name. Mac problem, rare. Possible fixes http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/06/kit-dns-not-resolving-host-name-mac.html Thinkerer

The installer may be saying that it does not recognize your graphics card. In tha case, try to porceed with the installation-- it may let you do that. If it installs and you can log on to SL, go to your graphics panel and adjust your graphics to suit you Me (top bar) -- Preferences - graphics If the installer says you don't have a graphics card, the card is probably not regisered with Windows. Check with the people who sold you the machine. TKR

The Future... Internet TV, and programs like SL?
Thinkerer Melville replied to Mayalily's topic in General Discussion Forum
We have internet TV now and it ishappening in SL. A number of shows -- music and comedy -- are being streamed live to the web via Live stream. There is even a chat stream on Livestream. We archive the stream and provide it for VOD. Here is a link to one: http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/05/tuesday-may-24-lauren.html As to the server question, that is part of how Second Life will be accessed on the web. Linden Lab has -- and has tested-- a server capable of server side rendering. With that version, you don't download a big viewer. Just a small plug-in. It has linited capabilities, but a lot more than the flat web. I expect Second LIfe to become an important provider of internet TV and to develop a significant revenue stream from ads. Thinkerer -

I don't think it says your account has been suspended. Note this line: Action: No additional action is being taken at this time. If you are able to sign on, your account has not been suspended. If you have corrected the problem with your profile, I don't think you need to take further action. Thinkerer

You need to know things that get you what you want. You will probably want to set streaming music -- that is tied to land management. Here is a strter article: Owning Land in Second Life. Second Life Connection Problem
Thinkerer Melville replied to WelshLamb's topic in Second Life Server
This may help: 3. If you have a Netgear router, contact their help desk. They have a problem with Second Life (even with a new router) and some of the people there are aware of that. http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/01/kit-get-logged-out-lot-check-your.html -

Please give us an update on plans to fix Group Chat
Thinkerer Melville replied to Silua Mills's topic in Second Life Server
The plan My friends and I are now using: Set up matching Facebook groups and chat there. We have not loaded the groups enough for a full test, but I have not seen messages about unable to open a group or unable to send a message. Thinkerer -

I don't understand the problem. SL seems to do well for me most of the time. I do see problems during the frequent server rollouts. But I see no increase in problems in the last month. I don't do sailing so can't speak for that. As to TP's, I have not seen any big problem. And no problem in Sim crossings. I wil lbe posting an article this week about YavaScript pod tours. In testing those tours, I took extensive rides around Heterocera and Sansara. Probably made more that 50 sim crossings. No problem. Mostly i did not notice the crossing at all. once or twice I noticed th pod slowing down. If you are having problems on TP's and sim crossings, you may need to check you ISP services and router. I hope you are successful in promoting the America's Cup in SL. I run a blog and would be happy to post stories about that. Please send me any information, pictures, or public video you have about that. (The video you posted in your note here is no public and cannot be reused in a blog.) Thinkerer Melville

This may help: Get logged out a lot? Check your router http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/01/kit-get-logged-out-lot-check-your.html Second Life uses ports not widely used on the intrnet. Hence a partial router failure can affect it and nothing else that you are using Thinkerer
