A Perspective on Viewer 2
Thinkerer Melville replied to Einsman Schlegel's topic in Second Life Viewer
I have externsive coverage of how to use Viewer 2 on my blog. That includes a lot of annotated screen shots from versions 2.6 and 2.7. There is an organized table of contents here; Hobo Kit on the Web http://thinkerer.org/SLintChan/SLiHoboKitonWeb.htm Thinkerer -

Here is info that may help: Owning Land in Second Life. Starter section You share control of land via groups -- you form a grojup, puit the people you want in it, then set or deed the land to the group. http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/01/kit-owning-land-in-second-life-starter.html Groups 101 Why and how? http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/02/groups-101-why-and-how.html Groups 201, advanced http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/04/kit-groups-201-advanced.html

boxing up textures question
Thinkerer Melville replied to Blondbear Santiago's topic in Building and Texturing Forum
The textures on the object you sold will remain available to the objects, but I would not assume that you will later be abe to access the ones you stored on the notecards. I have had occasions when I could not recover assets embedded on notecards. Fortunately, I still had them in object contents, and was able to get them back from the objects. Since then, I keep things I dont want to lose in boxes. TKR -
Private Region Seperation
Thinkerer Melville replied to Christian Moyet's topic in General Discussion
You have 2 sims in one estate. I think you need to submit a ticket asking for them to be separated into separate estates. That is how the joined estate i formed. TKR -
Wow. Do you know what bandwidth you are getting? TKR
-
There is no quuestion that you are connecting. The fact that it hangs at handshake suggest s a port block or failure. The router might be at fault -- I have seen routers fail before, but have not seen a handshake failure as the result. Routers sometimes fail on a port used by SL, but not by browesers.; It you can borrow another router, you could try that. TKR

I think what you want is Me- Preferences - Chat -- Midde of window: Enable incomind chat Pop-ups Uncheck both TKR

Don't open ports manually. That is beyond risky. We have exhausted the problems I know about. I don't understand the problem and the diagnosis is only negative, not helpful. If you can find a way to get more diagnostic information, I might be able to solve the problem. Otherwise, I think we are out of options. I commend your persistence. TKR

HTML-embedded Images on face of Prims
Thinkerer Melville replied to nitrogenfingers's topic in LSL Scripting
Yes it is possible. I have lots ot prims diasplaying my blog posts .. I can give you a prim that will show show a web page if you putl th url into the script Here are wepbages describing this: Posterize your blogs in Second Life http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/04/posterize-your-blogs-in-second-life.html Pix so you can see effect. Preferences: Media. Sound. Prim browsers. Video http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/06/kit-preferences-media-sound-prim.html http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2011/06/kit-preferences-media-sound-prim.html You can put video on the prim and play it One limitation: this can only be seen by people using viewer 2, Firestorm, or other viewer 2 level client. I am sorry -- I am running low on solutions. 32 or 64 bit would not make a difference. Two more things to try -- load the window, but don't sign on.. Instead, click Me- Preferences -- graphics see that the graphics is set to low Me- preferences - Setup -- Set bandwidth down to about 700 then try login again. Next step: Contact your isp, see if they can find a problem with your internet connection (are they blocking any ports?).

I am running 2.7.2 in win 7 64. with no problem , so that part is ok. You are getting 2 different kinds of error messages, so there may be 2 problems. Do all these in sequence Reset your modem and router (turn them off for a minute or so) then turn them back on. Remove Second Life (using windows remove under the control panel) Find this folder on your computer and delete it Users- (your name)- - AppData-- Roaming -- SecondLife Reinstall Second Life. Bypass any complaint about graphics card. Watch for requests to open ports Reboot your computer. Let the handshake try for at least 10 mins. ============ or try this if more convenient If you are using a laptop, see if you can find another place (different modem/router) to try to login. TKR

Viewer does not start on Windows 7 ultimate 64
Thinkerer Melville replied to Emiliocid Amat's topic in Second Life Server
Here is some info on running in windows 7 64 bit compatibility mode. http://virtualoutworlding.blogspot.com/2010/08/windows-7-64-bit-second-life-no.html I am presently running 2.7.2 in win 7 64 with no problem. TKR -
I don't know of any problem with that card ,but Nvidea is the one most recommended. Give the handshake time -- if the handshak fails, check to see if there is an updated driver available. if you get logged in, see my previous post about resetting the graphics. TKR
-
If the installer complains about your card, try to run SL anyway. I have had that experience and could load anyway . Graphics were terrible, but that was because the installer set graphics to minimum. Here are instructions on resetting the grapjhics.
