  1. I don't mind being the one out in the cold on this, and other points. I'm just worried that some don't find it just a little odd that when Linden Lab has gone out of there way to code it so the sim owner can have control over this, that a viewer is in essence saying, well yes Linden Lab has made it so you can't do this, but what do they know, here you go, and don't worry about the Lab, just do what you please. So why stop there?
  2. Profaitchikenz Haiku wrote: "So, if you use a viewer that defeat what the sim owner would like... but wait, that sounds like a griefer thing to do" I'm such a sim-owner. I don't want people TP-ing around willy-nilly in a roleplay environment because it can upset people's games or activities if somebody pops up right in the middle of it. However, I would not object to people shooting up to 4000 metres in order to be able to leave my sim and go to another one. It's all a question of impact and intent. Somebody from outside trying to use the map to TP into the cluster of green dots they've spotted isn't so much a griefer thing as a case of people not considering what the people already there might want: if it's a club then they are usually happy to have new arrivals, if they're carefully arranging a photo-shoot or re-enacting an historical scene, they probably don't. A visitor who hasn't read the sim description or got a copy of it's rules from the arrival point isn't going to be able to work this out, and so I use landing points. There is nothing I can do to help them actually leave once the've got there, apart from ejecting and banning them, which is a bit drastic @) Going back to the methods being suggested to the OP for getting away from a sim, I myself have tried all the tricks, removing scripted items, walking around, and of all those, walking seems the one most likely to work. It seems that walking away from a cluster of avatars makes it more likely to get the TP to work first time. I have also been told that sitting on an object, since it then removes you from the list of things the physics engine has to keep track of, also makes it easier for you to get a TP to work, but I;ve never been able to prove this to my satisfaction. I did the Bold... Yes, the big word here in intent. If you use a viewer that allows you to copybot but that is not your intent, then whats the problem. The problem, as I see it is, giving the ability does not give the intelligence to use it wisely. Even if most do, to many will not.
  3. I am not technically savvy but I still tried Linux once. Frustration beyond compare, I don't like what MS does with the OS a lot of the time but at least I can use it. Just installing something in Linux was beyond me. And when the one I was using upgraded, what I had gotten to work, no longer worked. Like I said, I'm not technically savvy, so I just gave up on it and reloaded winders.
  4. Ren Toxx wrote: I've also found that, sometimes, launching yourself to high heavens and then trying teleporting from that high altitude also increases the probability of TP success; many viewers allow you enter a command that will send you to any altitude given (for example, in Firestorm I can type gth 4000 in local chat) and, once that high (if the sim is really laggy, even that will take a while, but there's no hurry there), you can try teleporting to your destination sim, or to that low-lag intermediate region, or wherever. Lately it's become less feasible because many areas force you to a landing point and try disallowing point-to-point teleports, and some viewer's local teleport function have trouble defeating that, so when you try the gth command, you'll end up rushing to that landing point and then maybe start flying -and somewhat slowly, too-. But it's still worth a try, not so much because it beats trying TP'ing out many times... but because sometimes, after several tries, the region simply logs you out. But yeah, I wish they fixed that, perhaps by giving higher priority to 'TP out' requests... after all, if a region is so laggy, I'd say it's in its server's best interest to get rid as soon as possible of avatars that want, in fact, to get out. I did the Bold... So, if you use a viewer that defeat what the sim owner would like... but wait, that sounds like a griefer thing to do. The owner has spent good money for that sim and if they don't want you to point-to-point, then using a viewer to tell them to shut up and leave you alone, is wrong.
  5. Even worse is when you purchase a copy / modify item and find the alpha is no copy. The item is advertised as copy / modify but IMO having the alpha as no copy and advertising the item as copy / modify is dirty. If one, just one part of an item is no copy, what you have is a no copy item. A lot of the items for sale in SL are blanks (or what ever you call them) and the “creator” only adds a texture to it. The only good part to this is that you can get the correct alpha, or a better alpha, from another creator. And if they have even come close to a nice texture then they get my business and not the “creator” with the no copy alpha. [rant over]
  6. This doesn’t always work but I find it helps, walk or move some before you teleport. Don't know but I think it gets the servers attention, and my success rate at teleport is a lot higher when I do this.
  7. Brand new and confused, well it sounds like your doing it right so far. I'll be six next month and I am only slightly confused. Hang in there. And oh yea, welcome to SL, its not a game, yes it is, no its not.
  8. I was having that problem with a different anti-virus software and switched to Avast and have had no problems at all with it. Don't know why what works on one computer will drive another one crazy, but Avast has been really great for me after that last one made it hard to use SL at all. There are a lot of free ones, try another one and see if you have better luck. I use Niran viewer and the LL viewer.

Its the resident to resident disputes they will not get involved with, but fraud is another subject completely. And after some time, how do you know your blacklisted, is there a place to look and see, or do you just need to remember, not likely everyone will remember, to many merchants. Actually they won't. I know from experience. A well know seller of popular vendors removed my partner from being able to use his networked vendors because he discovered a bug and reported it. One day the lucky chair that came with the vendors gave prizes every few minutes to one woman that was in my partner's shop, including prizes that it was not supposed to give out. The woman got away with about 5K in merchandise for free. My partner reported it as a possible hack or malfunction. The creator swore my partner kept rezzing out a new chair and there was nothing wrong with his product. My partner was off line at the time, so he insisted it wasn't him. I know for a fact that this is the case as I was on the sim that day and saw it all go down. They creator got mad and banned my partner from the web server meaning not only was his whole vending system now useless to him, but to this day he can't buy anything from other merchants who use that vending system. Ironically about two weeks later that creator sent out a new lucky chair that 'fixed some bugs" but never unbanned my partner. This was reported to LL and they did nothing about it. This is one of many examples I can name. The vending system was purchased and used, a dispute erupted, your partner was stopped for using it any further. That is not the same as purchasing something and never being able to use it, as I see it any how. What you describe is a resident to resident dispute, not the same as purchasing something and never being about to use. But like I said, that is how I see it. Now very very obviously the person selling the vendor system is in the wrong, but like so many other thing in SL, that does not matter.

  11. I could be wrong but I think I remember seeing someplace that by getting rid of last names it would keep one of the databases from growing as fast, one less field. Also they, LL, think people were canceling from the sign up page because they had to pick a last name, only having one name made it faster and easier and more like that face place. Then getting rid of accounts would be difficult, my daughter has not signed on for several years, thinks SL is lame. She is in a group I made and if they deleted her avatar I would lose my group. I think you need two people in the group of something like that. Then there is that huge number of avatars that are in Second Life, well we know better but the 34 million plus looks better than to say, there are 500K avatars. But last names could come back easily, just have one space available for your name, not the first or last character and now you have only one field and a first and last name, kind of.

Now she thinks its sexy, i guess for some it might be but it looks just plain dumb. I think they are just trying to brighten the day for others. I half to laugh when I see that, so, if that is the intent, then its working, it makes me laugh.
  13. Erik Verity wrote: You always could drop it to them. Nobody's profile disclosure claiming that they don't agree to the TOS is a replacement for it. Nobody's profile is a contract that anyone has to agree to, and never was. I would go so far as to say you always could AR a profile that claimed they were not going to honor the TOS - it was proof in writing that they intended to violate it. Yes, intelligent people know that. But (I don't think) it was ever spelled out this clear before. Well yes, again, for intelligent people it was, but they are not the people with the disclaimers in their profile. They know better.
  14. You need to un-check under setup “Willing to update to release candidates”. If you have it checked, that is why you got the test viewer.
  15. I have looked here: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu_list.php when looking for a video card, lots of information.
  16. Amicci has some pigtails that come close to that. Or go to the MP and type in pigtails. Edit: Amacci
  17. What I think your seeing is the faded area at the top of the attachment of the shoe. I have seen this on some shoes and if done right can help “fade” the shoe to the leg. Try altering the size (of the shoe) so that faded area is inside your leg and not on the outside. Just another thought.
  18. Well its not bleeding so there is still hope. How old is the tattoo, could be a problem with SSA/SSB and the way the tattoo is made. Although it looks like you don't have much on, try altering the order you put alpha layers on. Try another skin, see if that helps or makes a difference. After you put the tattoo on, log off and back on and see if that helps. Last but not least, I am really poor at this so don't put much hope in what I tell you.

Number Three: Allow me to pre-answer the question of why this thread was pulled... because, "Posts questioning a moderator’s decision," are not allowed according to the Community Guidelines. Hope this helps ...Dres I posted in that thread, and it had nothing to do with questioning why the moderators deleted something, it simply asked, how can the spam be stopped, and asked for suggestions. So Number Three does not apply, or more to the point, is not why the thread was deleted.
  20. Thanks for the link, exactly what I was looking for. And it turns out that if you have checked under setup “Willing to update to release candidates”, you could be running one of them anyhow.
  21. I am using the latest LL viewer from the download page. If you go to the download page and you click on 'Release Notes' you are taken to a page with more viewer versions listed, some newer (sometimes), most older. The newer viewer versions do not say beta, if I download and install it, will it just overlay the current release of the LL viewer, or will it install like a beta and be another install of the viewer? Can I install them, newer versions, as soon as they are posted? And could this be a problem?
  22. They think they feel it gives them the appearance of legitimacy. Idle threats are taken serious by someone that knows no better.
  23. cursea wrote: thank you a lot for move this I didnt know where to post this horrible problem. Thank you. I just hope this girl will stop with her drama. Avatars are creation by Linden Lab so if I am around that man so what? I not see any problem with that. Her RL stays her RL why she is so crazy if I am around her man. I not care. My right is to be around who I want to be. He is not her dog to listen her. I talked yesterday with other girl about this situacion she told me she knows her and also she told me she is jealous. Also she told me few of people will make trouble to me and to be careful of them. I guess Report Abuse i will need to use if someone try harassment me. I am here to have fun not to fight with someone. My alts is my own bussnuss nobody else. My friends know about my alts they don't mind and they dont care but that other girl she telling i got alts to steal her man away from her. She must be crazy so Help me! Its all in the name and some take it to heart. And the name is Second Life with the emphasis on LIFE. And its very real to some. I don't understand it myself but you have found it, deal with it like its real life because some think that way about this place.

Keeping display names off will get rid of a lot of the trash. I hear they are great for RP but I don't do any of that so just keep them off.
  25. To: Just another post: Okay, then back to what Rya said earlier, this is more for merchants and not so much for customers. So start there, merchants keeping track of merchants and only periodically putting out a report of your findings, first to LL and then have stores post it in world. Just like RL stores post the Better Business symbol in there stores. Proudly post, I'm a member of SLBBB (or what ever the name ends up being). The way I see it, your not getting the help your looking for from LL, so things to look at are: One, the solution is not going to be easy. Two, the solution is not going to be free. Three, the solution will take considerable amounts of working together.
