  1. I still use the system body most of the time, I prefer it to be honest. Mesh bodies are all well and good and I own a few (maitreya and kemono) but....it gets tiresome trying to find clothing that doesn't make you look like either a 12 year old anime child, prostitute furry or a back street thai hooker roughing it on a Sunday morning on holiday in an american hood. Plus I can usually get most things that I buy to fit the system body quite nicely even if they were originally made for one of the 234234234234234234234234234 mesh bodies out there. I don't really agree with those who hate on others for using mesh bodies or vice versa for those wearing system bodies....its SL....play it for you. I think people get too elitist sometimes over it, they feel that just because their ass and boobs are the meshed equivalent of a gigantic mountain of jiggling jello that all other players should follow the same rules. SL is your experience, screw the opinions of others and just wear whatever you want.
  2. Hey everyone, So, I don't want to go into too much detail about this as I'm not yet ready to reveal what I am up to. But, I am currently designing a few different iOS apps that relate to Second Life. They are designed to basically help out users. They will be free and will not contain adverts, I have no intention of monetising them. However, I have some questions regarding copyright issues / other issues that I may face that I am hoping someone with more knowledge then myself might be able to answer. My two questions are as follows : 1. As regards the app icons. Do you think It would be a copyright violation if they were to be my own vague interpretation of the SL logo. Not a direct copy but something that looks vaguely like it in my own artistic style. 2. For users of the apps who may have installed them out of curiosity and have never used Second Life. Is there any kind of issue in being able to refer them via a link to the Second Life sign up page. I have a vague memory floating round in my mind of someone doing this once and it turning out to be an issue?. They may sound like weird questions but I want to be sure of certain things before I go ahead with them. I really do not mind making a app icons that does not look like the official logo but I like the idea of making the icon look related to SL in some way. Thanks
  3. Dark theme is one thing......but custom foamy theme is another..... lets get #CustomForumThemes trending
  4. Entitled?, nay sir....superior is the word you are looking for. For a lowly 'resident' to gaze upon a last namer is comparable to that of a mortal viewing a god. We are the old ones, the wise ones, the hermits of the virtual forests and caves who remember the times of old when the prim ruled as king and the druids of our age tortured and made sacrifices to the gods of old to create shapes one never thought would be possible from objects perceived to be so limited. A time when even the lowliest of us could start creating without needing to learn 342 other pieces of software, when the system body reigned supreme and clothing was as simple as right click creating and applying a texture. A time when those less in the know bowed in awe when the Priestesses Of The Prims presented us with spiral staircases created solely out of a single prim. When hair could be created and modified by moving a few sliders and homesteads cost the same as a 1/4 sim and could hold just as many people as a full region. The successes, hardships and struggles we faced in developing this world will never be known by theses so called single namers. To say we are entitled is an injustice. To these lowly single namers we are deities who they should worship, respect, adore. Entitled you say?....SUPERIOR say I !
  5. I find that 99% of issues can be solved by simply making it so only avatars with payment information can enter the region. Most griefing accounts are usually just alts that do not have any kind of rl information attached to them as the users in question do not want their activities linked to their real life / main accounts. As for "visit from a high tech" gimme a break, most of those tools that make a sim useless are just using very basic exploits that clog up the regions resources and cause the asset server to weird out on you etc etc. Theres nothing high tech about it and in 99% of cases today you can just reset the sim and be done with it, especially now that land owners can reset their sim from the second life website instead of having to be in world and on the region. Its not so much debilitating as it is annoying. Also I'm curious what you mean by "won't save you from a blaze of real life knowledge"...most griefers I know are just highly immature entitled snowflake males who lack the life and social skills to be able to deal with situations that arise in a constructive manner and feel they have to run EVERYONES fun just because they feel they have been affronted in SL in some way by either another user or some rules they do not like.
  6. If you want a suggestion Keira. The option to order by size, cheapest first, most expensive first etc etc would be a good idea instead of everything just thrown together randomly like it is at the moment
  7. Your either high or stupid. Its definitely one of the two. Firstly LL won't force the land owners to do anything. Do you have ANY idea how much of LLs income comes from the land barons / renters. Do you have ANY idea just how many sims anshe Chung alone owns and even taking them all being grandfathered into consideration just how much her company pays linden labs each month for all of them?. Thats not including others such as WRE, Fantasyland and all the other various renters, buyers and land barons. If LL tried to force them to do ANYTHING like what you are suggesting or if all residents went on a strike and refused to pay...it could cause a huge loss of earnings for those companies and individuals who would more than likely say f**k you and just shut up shop. There by taking away a huge chunk of linden labs earnings. Less earnings = less money available to pay for the needs of linden labs = no more second life which sort of nulls your "It's the only way to ensure SL's survival" comment. You call them wannabe trumps but realistically I look at the current prices of land rentals and they are WAY lower than when I first started in 2007. I remember renting a 1/4 sim at 8000 lindens a week and now WRE has them on a summer sale for like 3.5k a week or something. I know of another company (the name escapes me) but you can rent a full 20k prim sim from them for 14k lindens a week.....thats like.....8k on average cheaper than other land agents. Let alone the fact that LL have just not only dropped the monthly cost of regions but ALSO dropped the setup costs to entice you to want to purchase your own region. Which Is what we have been asking for for YEARS. There are alot of land agents that are barely making all that much profit on the regions they do have as they are trying to keep up with the competition surrounding them. The only places I know that are on average higher than usual are either smaller individual sellers who maybe have a few sims or the Chungs. But even with the Chungs, I consider an extra k or so a week worth it for the fact you get 24/7 in world and website support. Seriously dude, know your facts before you spout nonsense
  8. Having read the article. I agree and disagree with what its saying. Comparing SL to what it once was…most of the areas I jump into today are slowly becoming baron ghost lands if not already baron ghost lands. The amount of sims that you could consider busy (that are not sex sims populated by sex starved avatars bombarding you for a quick fix) are slowly dwindling more and more. SL clearly isn’t what it once was and will probably never be that popular again. That is not to say however that SL is dead. The areas that ARE being developed and ARE popular are still hives of buzzing activity. Roleplay communities such as Star Wars, COLA and many others are still going strong. Combat Sims such as Infernalville, XCS and Toxic City still have fairly high traffic. Dance clubs such as Wonderful Dreams, Franks Jazz Club and Musical Cafe are still pulling 50+k traffic. In that article it sounded for the most part like he was just hopping around the adult side of SL which in all honestly can be fairly hit or miss depending on where you go. You either get a region that is fairly busy, inhabited by semi afk sex starved fetish zombies who occasionally return to their computer to shuffle towards you, arms outstretched, desperate for human contact (think 80s movie zombies but replace the cries of “BRAIN” with the cries of “sex SEXXXX”) or a region devoid of human avatars but filled with afk sex bots or finally….just an empty region. Using them to showcase SL as it is now is not really the best idea IMO. But the article does bring to light some good points : -SL does have large areas of abandoned and disused land. It is filled with once popular regions that are now mostly empty or in the case of mainland simply abandoned and now owned by governor linden. -The destination guide is mostly a joke where half of the places listed no longer exist. I gave up with the destination guide long ago. Places are listed and stay around for 10 minutes and are gone again yet never delisted. Or the description is just flat out deceptive with promises of "fun, adventure and a journey through the bowels of hell and back" and lead to a 512m2 piece of land containing nothing but a bonfire and a tree. -The attitude of the girl mentioned in the first part of the article that asked "why are you messaging me" is pretty relevant also. SL is very cliquey these days and it can be hard to integrate into a community or group of people in world if you are new. Even as a older avatar I find it difficult to make new friends as most people already have their friends and do not seem to be interested in making any new ones. -Comments about the population levels are fair also. The population has dwindled drastically over the years. Yes we still have a lot of players but for those of you who only joined SL within the last 5 years you may not have noticed the decrease so much. But for those of us that have been around since 2007 and before and experienced SL at its hype and have watched it decrease over the years the difference between now and then is hugely vast. I am not sure what LL could do to attract more people besides appealing to certain sub sections of society that would greatly benefit from what SL has to offer. Such as people with disabilities who may not be able to get out as often in order to meet new people. Or those who are reclusive loners who do not have many RL friends who could do with actually talking to someone once in a while (could we get Second Life recommended by mental health professionals xDD). But for the most part while reading that article I can’t help but feel that he didn’t put too much effort into actually exploring SL on his return trip. He mostly just hopped around a few adult places, spoke with two avatars and visited a few regions listed on the obsolete destination guide. Now whether that is his fault for not trying hard enough, the labs fault for not having more clear instruction on where the current happening are or someone else fault entirely has still to be decided. But if I really want to find a busy region all I have to do is type any of the following key words into search : combat, role-play, dance, shopping, gothic, urban, anime etc etc and lots of places will pop up that still have fairly high traffic. It saddens me that people have these experiences when they log into SL, then spend an hour or two here, make a series of assumptions and write an article like the one that was posted on Digg. It makes me want to contact him and be like “Okay, come back…il give you a tour…il show you where everyone is hiding…there are actually people here I promise you…”. But here is a question for you all. How could we actually attract people back to SL to increase the player base besides what I stated above (appealing to certain demographics that would benefit from its use)
  9. A single machine couldn't run 100 sims easily. Not full regions. The core to sim setup works as follows : 1 x Full 20k/30k region = 1 whole core 4 x Homstead regions = 1 whole core 16 x Openspace regions = 1 whole core to assign 25 full regions to a single core considering its setup so that 1 core = 1 full region would be all kinds of catastrophic. The performance would be utterly awful. Even if you used a 16 core processor you could only run 16 full sims. Imagine the fury of the residents if LL divided the region resources they have right now by 25 or even 100 as you stated, it would be ridiculously laggy and slow
  10. You just reminded me of a Jira I submitted once on a alt. I asked LL to consider adding age restriction to the region control panel, aka letting us custom set the minimum amount of days old an avatar had to be to enter a region but their excuse was "beyond the scope of our current capability at this moment"
  11. So bring back the old sign up method of choosing a first AND last name when you create an account is the thing to do. As I said in an earlier post, if you are going to do it then do it properly. Properly is not trying to milk every last penny out of a community who's pennies have already been milked several times over. You should charge for those that want to change their current name and allow new users to sign up with the choice of a first and last name. #BringItBackProperly #LabLogic #GetItTogetherAlready #YourUsersAreTalkingPleaseListen #DiscussItHereAsNotEveryoneCanMakeInWorldMeetings #RestoreOurFaithInTheLab
  12. Mostly with my friends it seems to be based on how filled out your profile is. Personally I don't care much if someones an alt or not. I have several alts myself. But what I see most people looking for is how filled out your profile is, if you turn up with no picture or an empty info box or a scantily filled out profile and you haven't created your account in the last few days then people will take you as a alt and for some reason make it into a super big issue. It does seem to be aimed more at resident accounts but I think that has to do with the griefer and troll culture in SL, its too easy to make a throw away account and grief a sim. I know several sims that have been the victim of repeated grief attacks from some a-hole creating new accounts over and over.
  13. Seriously, guys come on. If your bringing back first names bring them back for all residents including new accounts. I get you want to milk more money out of the community but seriously. If your bringing them back then do it properly. Give them a choice on creating an account whether they want to pick a last name or stick with resident. I feel like you guys at linden labs go one step forward two steps back sometimes
  14. It will be available at account creation. At the linden Q&A last month it was stated by ebbe somewhere that new accounts will be able to create with a last name and current resident accounts will be able to change theirs, for a fee
  15. My question is, why do you care. I see you keep pushing this issue and these comments over and over in this thread but iv been around since 2007, been part of many different communities and for the most part I see people who have reasonable usernames. There is the occasional person that has something like "PeterPetter1991" or "myusernamesucks" but who honestly cares, most stupid names are just trolls and they will always be a part of SL no matter what. Number names and stupid usernames have been around since SL opened its doors, what would you rather...being forced to choose your first name from a pre built list also?. I welcome back last names, worst mistake linden labs ever made was removing them. Its been so long since I have seen another ling in world. It was once like being part of a larger family. If anything, removing last names caused an increase in number names and stupid names. At least with last names if you wanted say "Coby Fuzzlebutt" but annoyingly it was taken yet "Coby Fizzlebits" wasn't, there are at least other options to choose from. Having said that I have a few resident alts and I have yet to HAVE to use numbers or pick a stupid name, it just takes a bit of creativity.
  16. I have to ask, why did you pick the number then?. You could have chosen ANY name starting with Anna or containing Anna. Or picked a entirely different name, you didn't HAVE to pick one that had a number. I have a few alts in SL that i use for different stores, a building alt etc etc and i have yet to resort to picking a name that contains a number
  17. You realise the Jira is for Bug Reports AND Feature Requests right? and the Lindens react very well to suggestions. Perhaps you should actually look at the Jira once in a while and maybe attend the creator meetings each week where they actually discuss upcoming changes AND ask the residents who attend for their views, opinions and ideas on how to improve Second Life. http://wiki.secondlife.com/wiki/Content_Creation_User_Group
  18. I created a jira a few days ago suggesting to linden labs what they could do to improve premium. 1024sqm land was one of the things i suggested. The current status of the jira is accepted and 14 people have voted on it so far. If you want to give the jira a vote to show the lindens that we are serious about wanting these changes then you can vote it up and comment on it here https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-202551
  19. Hey so after reading through the different threads the other day on the latest premium perk being offered i created this Jira to give suggestions to linden labs on how they could ACTUALLY make premium more appealing as opposed to token gestures like "90 days of transaction history". So far 14 people have voted it and its status is currently accepted but if you could spare a minute to log in to the jira and vote it up i would greatly appreciate it. The link to my suggestions are here : https://jira.secondlife.com/browse/BUG-202551 thanks
  20. Nooo not gambling, sorry. As in arcade games, greedy, poker for fun, video gaming etc etc
  21. Hey, im not sure exaclty where to put this so im going to put it here and if the mods want to move it they can do. I have opened a new Anime and Gaming hangout zone if anyone is interested. There are chill out areas, games you can play, twitch screens you can stream your games in world on, a pool, stores to rent and alot of random other stuff scattered around. If your interested in having a new place to hangout you can find it here : http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Ancient%20Rune/128/6/1508 Look forward to seeing anyone who wishes to join us! :)
  22. I understand that they are trying to push mainland a little here by giving them an extra 2500 avaiable prims over a full region, but, do you really think thats going to encourage more people to buy a mainland sim. Looking at the facts : A. Mainland is a extremely laggy place, for me at least, always has been always will be B. Trying to find somewhere on mainland that is cheap and affordable to buy as it is, is near impossible with most avatars wanting to sell their land on at 7L Sqm if not more. I have seen several sims on mainland for sale in recent weeks with the prices ranging between 300k and 500k.....who is paying that?. Ok you save 100usd a month on tier i get that but you dont get access to region controls, as i stated above mainland is hella lag ridden, you barely get any terrain controls, its highly overpriced by the residents who own it and if you simply rented privately you can aquire your land by just simply paying your first weeks tier. Surely they should have just boosted private regions to 22500 alongside mainland. What do you guys think, do you consider mainland worth it?
