  1. I was wrong Klytyna, you can't jump. For some reason i thought i had read somewhere that they had added that capability but apparently not. I thought i would download it again and see if anything might have changed since i last used it. Well, you can throw a dice now instead of a ball. You can also press space and then click somewhere ahead of you to teleport there. Innovate stuff. Other than that its the same old slog. I tried modifying my outfit which resulted in me waiting nearly 7 minutes for the wardrobe avatar styling panel to load up. Limited amount of starter clothing where half of it doesn't even go together. A further 7 minutes nearly just to save the outfit. Still takes an aeon or two to load each experience. Most experiences are tiny and can be seen in seconds as there is literally NOTHING else to do bar go "Ohhhhhh......Ahhhhhh". Still no option to have your arrow keys turn the avatar instead of strafe, you have to use your right mouse button which is tiresome...especially when you can only turn so far as the mouse itself isnt locked to the program when you are doing this and thus hits the side of the desktop and you stop turning. Is this what LL thinks VR and normal users are wanting, to stand around being amazed by shiny material textures and 10 hour loading screens. I thought there would be more people at least, even if only a few as it was released on steam but nope....14 whole people right now. Its been a couple of years now since Sansar was released you would have thought there would at least be something more to do in that time than just go "Hmmm.....waiting.....waiting.....waiting.......Oh that looks pretty......what else is there.....waiting....waiting.....waiting.....". I am about to go and try out the experience designer again to see if thats improved.....you never know....
  2. Just a add-on thought. I think you are being very unfair to Sansar...have you forgotten we can now JUMP over there.....shame on you 🤾‍♀️
  3. Gratz Klytyna you have the great honour of being todays resident that managed to break me with a single sentence. 😂
  4. Thats pretty neat. I figured the private gun gatways would have something like this but I wasn't sure if anyone still did it at the official SL gateway. Good for them, the learning curve and possible pitfalls when starting SL can be huge and terrifying. Its good that there are still people there willing to guide them.
  5. I just received this. Obviously its not Linden Lab but just letting you all know to ignore this account. LL would never try to hire you by sending you a notecard in world and LL only operate on accounts with Linden as a last name. I know you all know this already but there are always those who do not realise and are caught out so posting it here
  6. The first bit I get, I knew the region itself had something to do with the hosting of the listen, but the last part however im experiencing the total opposite. I created a script, placed a listen in state_entry, added the listen event and left out everything else. No CHANGED_REGION, no re initialisation of the listen and yet the listen happily maintains itself between the regions I am teleporting to. I know you say that to maintain it you should monitor for CHANGED_REGION but could the "big gooey ball" that is unpacked not be re establishing previously called listens from the object the script is in?. Because it seems like thats whats happening for me. [10:08] Object: Got the message : test in region Infinity Gate [10:08] Object: Got the message : test in region W Real Estate [10:08] Object: Got the message : test in region Skidz Isle
  7. I have to disagree. I prefer to view it as there being more and less efficient ways of doing things as opposed to right and wrong. Using a sleep whilst less efficient as it will lock up the script if it has other tasks to perform is still a perfectly legitimate way to achieve what the OP was originally asking. I also never stated that using UNIX time was invalid I use it myself to create a faux multi timer as well as create delays on how often you can activate certain features in hud I create, as opposed to using more sections of a faux multi timer, and for plenty of other reasons. All I was stating was that in the case of having a script wait 10 minutes before simply dying, as the OP seemed to be originally trying to do, then going all out with unix time checks to do that is like using a hammer to pick a daffodil. Completely unnecessary. Calm yourself
  8. The point he's making is that he tested it in channel 0 and after crossing from one sim to another there was no output into channel 0 after clicking the dialog button. A dialog outputs the message as if the avatar has said the message onto the specified channel. What we take from this is that its the dialog that is discarded. Listens enabled in a script do not just automatically stop...per say...when you leave a region. An script in an object that has a listen activated on channel xxx will continue to pick up messages regardless of how many region changes you do. If that wasn't the case then half of the products on SL would flat out just break and never work again. So the logical deduction that Wulfie has made, given that we can't further test this due to the viewer discarding the dialog, is that the issue is with the dialog itself because if the dialog was still active when entering another region....the object that "is set" to listen would still be listening and would still pick up a message sent to its channel.
  9. There is not a right or wrong way to do it and I have yet to see any evidence anywhere that states you cant use a sleep for longer than a few seconds. As for UNIX time, your just over complicating the matter. llSetTimerEvent(600) would work perfectly fine. Simple solutions are the best answers, otherwise you end up giving yourself more work for the same result.
  10. It has to be done. If I could have five minutes alone with him I would.....never mind....😜 I can see your joking but at the same time thats definitely not something you ever admit to lmfao. Even taking it as a joke shows that the thought is on your mind. Get help We have mentors in SL?. I thought they died out years ago. I have often thought about doing this myself at times but it seems that most "new" players these days are just old players creating new alts. I haven't actually met someone who is genuinely new to the grid in quite some time. They used to have that program....I forget what it was called....but it was a mentor program back in the day sanctioned by the Lindens That Be. I know that program was shut down years ago but I didn't realise people were still doing it regardless.
  11. *Cocks her head to one side and gazes as the strange creature looks distraught about something* *Shouts* "Hey!" *She looks on disbelief as the creature takes off its pants and the rest of its clothes and throws them in the nearest bush, she watches the creature straighten up, its eyes staring at the sky in defiance!. She wonders what the creature is about to do. A look of bemusement crosses her face as the creature starts to do what she can only describe as '''The Dance Of Her People'''* "Y....Y....YO!!" *She shouts* "You realise your not wearing pants!!...o....o...or CLOTHES for that matter!!". *The creature seems to ignore her and starts shaking its rear violently. She backs off a little fearing the worst. Then suddenly without warning the creature rears back its head shakes it and roars...* "Wow!" *She wonders if its is calling to some powerful ancient deity, will lightning shoot down from the sky and blast her out of her socks?. The creature lowers its head. Thinking the worst is over she crouches down and listens intently, curious about what the creature would do next. The creature looks her straight in the eye, determination in its eye and whispers...* "I've already had one warning and a post removed so I'm just gonna keep my mouth shut LOL" and without warning leaps off into the overgrowth, the sound of its hooves fading into the distance. She sits there quietly and ponders what she has just seen. She feels that she is truly honoured to have witnessed an event such as this*
  12. Lets do this Klytana style I never said the most popular I said most stable. I rarely have any issues with anything when using it and it runs much better on my old MacBook than any other viewer does. My Windows PC is way more powerful but even that runs SL better using the Official Viewer than any other viewer. The reason I dislike this viewer and barely ever actually use it is because I hate and I meant HATE the UI. In fact if they sorted out their chat system, group chat and removed toasts, stopped group chats from spamming down the side and made it a bit more pleasing to the eye I would be happy and probably use it full time (Though having said that I do like the preprocessor in Firestorm as it lets me include scripts). To give you a comparison. If I set both the Firestorm Viewer and the Official Viewer to the same graphical settings and make sure to clear out all cache etc etc and go to my friends sim Liberty City, on Firestorm, on my MacBook. I can barely move around and its lag central due to the highly complex mesh on mesh on mesh with more mesh hiding behind even more mesh. I load up the LL viewer....and I can move around quite freely. A little graphical lag but nothing in comparison. In terms of my own experience...V3 is way more reliable....but it has too many irritating features to deal with it full time. I haven't used it in a long time. But, my friends who swear by it tell me its the best viewer that works for the on their older machines. Though you reminded me that.... I forgot about CoolViewer. I should have added that in. Yes CoolViewer is the best V1.0 viewer going. Sounds interesting though I might have to give it a go finally and test it out. Curious to see how materials look on that viewer compared to other viewers Hmm I learnt something from you and Whirly. Thank you. I didn't realise it was an issue from the main LL source code. I have never ever noticed this to be an issue when using the Official viewer and yet when it comes to Firestorm...its a whole other story. I figured the issue was primarily something in the firestorm code modifications. Oh as regards your Sansar comment. I didn't mean literally making the viewer like that. I just like the UI style and how its laid out, if anything like that was ever done for SL it would obviously have to be in a way that was beneficial to SL users
  13. My apologies, I will brush up more on my "old people" music in future 😜
  14. I find it interesting how people tend to pick on a single thing, such as this song, when there are so many examples of something that could be taken completely wrongly out there in the world that never seems to receive much attention. Lets look at a Johnny Cash song called I''m On Fire. The lyrics start as : "Hey little girl is your daddy homeDid he go away and leave you all aloneI got a bad desireI'm on fire" I mean....if you read ALL of the lyrics for that song....COULD be taken as being pretty rapey and even pedophile like. How do you decide which songs to hate and which to like. And why is it such an issue that a song from the 1940s has the content it does when you take it as being a product of its era. Up until very recently (and some cases still modern) tv shows were rife with racism, sexism, rape jokes, transphobia, homophobia...take your pick. Yet most of this gets ignored for a random ass song from the 1940s?.
  15. Official Viewer : Most stable IMO, has the least impact on resources, latest updates. Best for older computers Firestorm : Has the most options and customisation, heavy on resources, can eat up a s*** ton of memory at times. Has neat features such as the pre processor. Is my viewer of choice because of the extra scripting options which come in handy and chat bar, chat, group chat style and management which IMO beats the Official Viewers handling of these things hands down Alchemy : Closest to the official viewer as regards resources. Has a few bugs that need to be ironed out. Better for older machines. Looks decent though its like a hybrid of the Firestorm style and the Official Viewer style. Still retains the Official Viewer chat, group style which I find annoying Singularity : For those who miss the look and feel of the original SL Viewer 1.x. Fairly stable. Decent on older machines. I haven't used it much but my friends who do use it report it to be a better SL experience than using Firestorm Black Dragon : Have yet to try this one so I cant give you an opinion. @Whirly Fizzle Curious question and I understand that it would be a big undertaking and probably never going to happen BUTTT...has the Firestorm team ever considered making a Firestorm 2.0, something new coded from the ground up in the spirit of firestorm that could maybe try and tackle a lot of the issues with memory and resources that people report happening in with the viewer?. I was looking at the Sansar viewer the other day and I quite liked the feel of It or maybe something else entirely. Could call it Icestorm haha

  17. You could always use the search term operators to try and remove as many of the Gacha listings as possible. It won't remove everything but it does remove a substantial amount. Usage : black mesh hair NOT gacha NOT excludes results that contain the word that comes after it. So "hair NOT long" would at least try and remove all listing from your search that contain the word long somewhere in it. Its not a perfect solution but its a pretty good one
  18. Things of an adult nature have even begun to infect the pg areas of SL so I can see where they would get that impression. Also if you go to an adult area these days your guaranteed to have a sex crazed starved zombie in your IM box in seconds like "Hi...want f***". I was playing in the 3rd Rock Grid (Opensim) the other day and I fell in love with their new resident hub. You basically Rez into their world and walk straight ahead and there are avatars loaded as models with quite a few different mesh outfits that you can see worn and snap up if you want. Beyond that there are free ao's, hair, skins, shoes, fantasy outfits, motorbikes and other vehicles and all manner of other stuff right there for the new avatar to grab and start using. Along with a tutorial area that teaches you the basic points of their grid and finally a destination hub . I know SL has the resident created and official gateways that new avatars Rez into which I have tried but I gotta admit...what 3rdRG have done pretty neat. Now IF they had something like this included into the current welcome zones along with different pathways a new avatar could take that teaches them not only the basics of SL but also some building and some scripting then I think the initial opinion of SL would be slightly different. Especially if said welcome zone had a destination hub that showcased all of the main long standing popular sims from their respective different areas. For example : Anime : Annie May Heaven, Anime Universe, DBS Universe Roleplay : Star Wars, Vampire Islands etc Combat : Angels and Demons, XCS, TDT, SLMC Sandbox : Skidz, Mage etc Something like this would give people a taste in a safe environment of what SL is and then direct them to the most popular areas on the grid to start meeting people from those communities and might help these YouTubers to see the other side of SL that doesn't consist of "Hey want some f***" I agree with you on your opinion but in terms of it being similar to the Pacific Garbage Patch...I actually like that about second life. Sure the million and one eyesore skyboxes can be a bit lame sometimes but out of the sheer garbage created on Second Life have come some seriously creative and nifty creations. The fact you can literally create anything from garbage to designer looking clothes to a huge skyline city with working monorail is what I love about SL. Your world your imagination.
  19. Any Mac users know If the situation improved for SL on Mojave?. Have been holding off on upgrading as so many people seemed to be having issues regarding the viewer?.
  20. Yep. Im 100% with you on this. When it comes to wind light I usually turn it off after a few minutes by setting my SL time to midday. More power to the effect the region designer is trying to achieve but after 10 minutes of looking at either the SUPER DUPER AWESOME BLINDING WONDER LIGHT or the SUPER MURKY *squints* I CANT SEE SH*** light, I just want to switch back to midday and get on with whatever it is I am doing. If it was forced on me I would have to locate a more questionable way of accessing SL that allowed me to disable it xD. As for thinking that overriding an experience is not cool....they do realise that by accepting an experience your not bending straight over and presenting your rear and saying "Please oh sim owner....***** me as hard as you can". You are allowed to disable things and opt out entirely. I only keep experiences in my experience list whilst I am in the sim that is using them. After that I remove them and half the time I don't even accept them and If I want to teleport around il use the IT hud to locate where people are and port to them. Personal preference.
  21. Would be interesting if you could opt into the specific parts of the experience you want and ignore those that you don't. Case in point a teleport. If it pops saying "OMGAWWD WE WANT ALL YOUR PERMISSIONS" then you could just tick the teleport box and ignore the rest and click submit. Or maybe go into the experience itself and de select the permissions you do not wish it to have.
  22. I will admit and if you check the original post, I altered it ever so slightly. And left a note that I had actually missed a small part of what Phill said. More than happy to admit when I have f** up part of what im saying in response to something. What I was getting at mainly was "Your discussion with Callum is misleading, because he isn't a typical male. He's gay, and his FL is tailored by that.". More the assumptions contained in those lines than anything. Just because XYZ is true for you doesn't mean that its alway true for another. And the phrase "isn't a typical male"....I read that along the lines of "Well he's not really a typical male is he..hes gay..." and that got me thinking "well....how do you exactly define a typical male and what makes him not part of the typical male pack....just because he's gay". I am more than happy to hold my hands up and say that I may have got it wrong and if I have then I apologise.
  23. --Pre note : This is my own personal opinion-- I feel that unless you have solid verified data you should never state something to be a true fact. Where you write "A stereotype can be true as an overall trend", I feel that is incorrect also. I do agree with you that Sterotyping can become dangerous, misleading and potentially harmful though which is why we should never do it. Il give you an example, lets take the topic you seems to want to throw at me a second ago (And I quote you : "why are you ranting about gay men preferring the company of women?"...which I wasn't but okay). But lets take that topic and use it as a stereotype. Its easy enough to throw that stereotype out there and assume that to be the case, especially given how the media, tv shows, movies and that one gay friend you have in RL who happens to fit that stereotype would lead you to believe. I mean do you ever see the average gay Joe Bloggs being portrayed on a news coverage of a gay pride march? or do they more often focus on the hyper male dressed as a pink bunny throwing glittered unicorn poop because it makes for better viewing?. We have to ask ourselves the question...is that really the case?. No....not at all. Gay men or women are as varied in personality, interest and type as any other person alive on this earth today. To make those assumptions and throw those stereotypes is not only ridiculous but also unfairly categorising a group of people as a whole into one tiny little box. We should never really assume anything of anyone because we never truly know the who, what, when and where of that specific person and it leads us to make all kinds of judgements about them before they have even had a chance to show you who they actually are.
