  1. Did you even read my response. I never ranted about gay men preferring the company of women. I never assumed that a openly gay man is or is not sexually attracted to men rather than women or vice versa or however you want to put it. I never once stated it like that at all. Don't put words in my mouth please. Attracted doesn't just mean sexual it can be meant in terms of friendships also.
  2. That is such stereotyping horse crap. Not all gay people prefer the company of females or are more attracted towards females or vice versa. Not all gay people are camp and effeminate and gravitate solely towards women. Not all gay guys are macho and tailor their friendships towards men. Gay people are as varied in their preferences and interests as straight people are. You don't come out as being gay one day and suddenly its "OMG LIKE THAT LIKE TOTES AWESOME GIRLS LESSSSS GOOOO SHOPPPINNGGGG!!!!". Im sure Callum is as much a typical male as any other male, I mean how do you even define being "typically male". I know gay people who are fairly macho and masculine and prefer the company, in a non sexual way, of guys and others who are super camp and effeminate and prefer the company of women.
  3. tldr; version : Why do guys not socialise or befriend other guys in SL as often as you think they would. And why do they seem to have a greater number of opposite sex friendships. And what is the reason for all this. I can't say I have noticed this myself. In fact I notice the complete opposite. All of the males I know have lots of male friends and socialise with them on a frequent regular basis in SL, on Discord etc etc. Most of the males I know have one common theme that they bond over online and thats gaming. That goes for their female friends too. A lot of us in the communities we hang out in are gamers ourselves and have made male friends due to that. But, I wouldn't go as far as saying that males only really associate with females and barely with each other because I simply haven't noticed that to be the case in any of the communities I hang out in. Whether Combat, Anime, Hangouts, Gothic, Medieval or whatever. In my view and from what I notice its fairly even across the board at times. The only time I really do notice guys specifically hanging around with females more often is when they have either developed a deep and meaningful (non romantic) relationship with one or two OR....they after the "fun times".......or they are just flat out lonely for female company in general due to one or more factors that may link into their current situation in RL....or they are gay (Not saying all gay people are like this btw). In fact, I would go as far as saying that SL has helped break a lot of the (perceived) boundaries between males and females and helped them to find a more common ground and an understanding of the their similarities instead of the whole "Men are from mars, women are from Venus" condescending BS you see happening in RL. But to say that guys are lonely and don't really befriend or associate with other guys.....I would say thats incorrect. From my own perspective anyway. The males I know have lots of male friends and socialise with them on a daily basis and befriend more in to their group all the time.
  4. So, iv been playing around with the LL viewer and its settings and actually getting quite into it. Not coding anything, though im seriously debating learning C++ right now, just modifying xml's and adding new textures. Experimenting basically. My questions are as follows : 1. So, im trying to create a dark theme, as in darker than the current grey, and so far I have managed to get most things to go darker but one thing is eluding me. The toolbar at the bottom that contains the buttons Speak, Inventory.etc etc will not change colour at all. I looked inside default/textures/toolbar_icons and see the two texture files highlighting.png and highlighting_selection.png. These two match up to the colour of the default button backing and when its highlighted. I made these darker but they are not changing when I restart the viewer. Have I definitely got the right two files for this?. 2. Curious about fonts. It is possible to change the fonts and font colour?. If so where in the SLV files would I find this. Curious really to see just exactly what I can change without having to learn C++
  5. I do have a question for you actually whirly. Something iv always wondered. In Firestorm you can mute individual group IM's from showing up. Is that a feature added by the Firestorm team and requires coding or is that something that can be done by modding one of the viewer files.
  6. Thank you, I didn't actually know that. When I tried to do it I changed it in the actual XML files themselves and it did nothing. When I tried to research up if there was a debug setting I wasn't able to find any mention of one. Muchly appreciated for sharing that with me. I knew about zoom but couldn't obviously go that far as I couldn't get the draw distance up further
  7. *Shrugs* Your opinion. My preference. It already exists in Firestorm, if it didn't have SOME use then surely they would have dialled that down? or never implemented it in the first place?. I wasn't wanting to start a whole thing with this and I don't have any issue with people responding. But when someone tries and fails to be a troll toward you its hard to not respond in a quirky way yourself. Now go say four Hail Marys and five Our Fathers and il forgive you.
  8. On firestorm maybe....hence why use Firestorm. On the official LL viewer however there is a cam lock that occurs after a certain distance. Even with constraints removed you cant go beyond a certain point. It just will not do it. Also with the 512m max DD limit, nearby doesn't list all avatars in the region like FS does. The mini map is one thing but the camera just will not go there for me on the LL viewer. Also I just double checked on the LL viewer, whilst you may be able to cam from map in Firestorm, you cant in V3.0
  9. I always though sarcasm was supposed to be a witty response to something someone ACTUALLY said, not what you have perceived them to be saying....I guess I was wrong. There is a difference between complaining about something and stating your own experience and preferences when it comes to using the SL viewer vs Firestorm vs Alchemy. You act like I was complaining, I wasn't. On my gaming computer I have the draw distance up further, especially if i'm running my own sim to be able to cam in on avatars and situations up to 4096m away (firestorm max value). On my MacBook I have the draw distance at 96m. This isn't difficult to process but feel free to take your time while you let all that sink in. Don't respond too quickly though I don't want to tax what few braincells you actually have. Obviously I wouldn't have it up that high if I was on mainland or one of the Chung mega continents. However, If I'm running my own private sim I like to have a longer draw distance so I can cam in on avatars if there are any issues before teleporting to deal with it. Or, if im busy doing something else and someone Rez something they shouldn't. Then be able to cam in and see what it is before returning it, if it needs returning at all. 4096 is just the value firestorm gives you so is the value I threw out there. Now, yes the value is in meters.....however.....you forget the height of a sim not just the width. However on the main viewer the draw distance caps out at 512m and unlike Firestorm doesn't render a great deal beyond that and locks the cam to that max distance away. Even with constraints removed. Not very useful for seeing something going on at the top of the sim when your on the bottom.
  10. I do actually find the official SL viewer to be the fastest and most stable, especially when I'm on my macbook and not my gaming pc. But, I also find it a hassle to use so 99.9% of the time my viewer choices are Firestorm and Alchemy. The official viewer seems to render better and give me less visual lag in regions firestorm wants to up and die. Alchemy is the closest I have found to the official viewers stability. However alchemy still retains the stupid toast chat system. However, if they fixed the following issues I would commit to the official SL viewer full time : 1. Make the overall UI feel more intuitive to use than its current state where, even though we know where most things are, everything feels like a serious chore to do. 2. Remove the ridiculous pop out chat box moveable chat bar magic toast super duper wonder "we tried to fix what isn't broken with something worse" system. And replace it with the chat style system they had in V1.0. Simple, works, effective...etc.. 3. Stop every single message sent in a group from spamming down the side of the screen and allow us other ways to disable group chat instead of "flash button" which is not all that noticeable or turning ALL chat from ALL groups off which sorta defeats the purpose. 4. Allow us to truly unlock the camera instead of remove constraints only unlocking it to 100m or something silly away from the avatar, makes it a pain to sit your avatar somewhere in a sim and cam over to build in another part. 5. Greater draw distance values. I did try upping it to 4096 in the settings files as per the advice of a TPV developer but for some reason it didn't work. 6. Sort out the script window and its spacing issues. Small concern I know but as a coder it gets hella annoying after a while. 7. Smaller irks, purely because I'm used to them in other TPV's such as auto show inventory when you accept an item at the location of the item, hide look at without needing to go into the settings and XML files of the viewer But I doubt that will ever happen so Alchemy/Firestorm it is!
  11. Change your login location to debug1 and try logging in to that sim. That usually works for me when I cant login. SL was having SOME issues an hour or so ago. I couldn't save scripts, disconnected a few times, took unusually long for anything to attach. Maybe a grid blip?. But try logging into debug1
  12. Okay. As I only have a small amount of knowledge on this subject and I realise i'm probably opening a massive can of worms by asking this BUT....what is it that attracts you to that point in history so much. Not judging you or anything just being British its not often you get chance to ask a question like that over something you dont know a great deal about. I know bits and pieces from various things I have read over the years but has never really been a primary point of research.
  13. CSA?. Im British so I dont know what that stands for. I did try looking it up and came across Canada Space Agency and Child Services xDD
  14. Im legit curious as to the type of place you have Phorumities. Idk why but im imagining lots of flags
  15. Yeah...you tell them....how dare they not give you your own personal linden to attend to your every need 24 hours a day 7 days a week. On a holiday weekend too god dammit. Don't worry we will get a petition going for you. On a serious note though, relax yourself. Its one location in a world of many. Go somewhere else, relax, chill yourself out, stop getting so upset and enjoy yourself. Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year, Easter Weekend...etc etc are the worst times for needing help from LL. Its always been that way and will continue to be so. Give it a day or so and all will be well. 8 hours for a region is nothing compared to some of the hours and hours long grid wide crashes we have experienced in the past.
  16. Congrats Phorumities, you actually just broke me when I read this. That is the best phrase I have read today and so damn accurate.
  17. No. xD. The bot was supposedly meant to be an A.I that gives out inspiring quotes thats getting itself a bit muddled. Whether or not that true is something else but I just find the results it comes up quite funny.
  18. Okay lets do a fun thing. Go to this bot http://inspirobot.me and try to find the funniest quote you can and post results here. My fav so far Is this :
  19. Reading through this old thread has made me realise just how uppity people can get if you dare to call or refer to Second Life in a way that indicates its a game.
  20. So, trying to teach myself rigging and weighting. Figure I might as well given the release of Animesh. But im running into a problem and quite honestly youtube is no help as each video seems to be using its own unique version of Avastar. And the official websites video on weighting is in German and using yet another unique version of Avastar. Apparently part of the Avastar development is changing the layout and location of features quite often....which pretty much null and voids 99.9% of all youtube tutorials on this. So most of what I have found so far has been from a small snippet of information on the main website and generally figuring it out. So, if I rig an item. Lets say a T-Shirt and the T-Shirt is in the T pose by default. Then I bind to armature, I can edit with weight paint and get something of a decent weighted item. However, if the T-Shirt is not set to T pose and the sleeves are facing down at say a 45 degree angle instead of 90 degrees, I can't seem to get it to rig properly. I did try rotating the arms down to match the angle of the sleeves but when I bind to armature it resets the avatar to the T pose and the weighting goes all kinds of weird. How do I get around this?. What do I specifically need to do to solves this problem?.
  21. Converting a string to a integer is called typecasting. I.e converting one data type to another. Simple cheat sheet : ---Converting a string to a integer--- integer myChannel = (integer)llGetObjectDescription..... integer myChannel = (integer)"12345"; ---Converting a list entry to a integer--- integer myChannel = llList2Integer(myList , listIndex); ---Other types of conversion--- (string) : Convert a type to a string, so.... llOwnerSay((string)myChannel); (vector) : Convert a type to a vector, so.... vector myDirection = (vector)"<1.0,1.0,1.0>"; (rotation) : Convert a type to a rotation, so.... rotation myTurn = (rotation)"<1.0,1.0,1.0,1.0>"; (float) : Convert a type to a float, so.... float myDecimal = (float)myChannel.....so if your channel is 456, it will become 456.0 after conversion (list) : Convert a type to a list, so.... list myList = (list)"Entry 0"; llList2String : Convert a list entry to a string, so.... myString=llList2String(myList,listIndex); llList2Vector : Convert a list entry to a vector, so....myDirection=llList2Vector(myList,listIndex); llList2Rotation : Convert a list entry to a rotation, so....myTurn=llList2Rotation(myList,listIndex); llList2Float : Convert a list entry to a float, so....myDecimal=llList2Float(myList,listIndex); ---Other relevant snippets you might be interested in--- integer randomChannel = 1+(integer)llFrand(999); integer randomChannelFromUsersKey = (integer)("0x"+llGetSubString((string)llGetOwner(),-8,-1)); integer simplePositiveChannelFromServerTime = llGetUnixTime()/10; integer simpleNegativeChannelFromServerTime = -llGetUnixTime()/10;
  22. If Nicholas Cage was a cat?
  23. There are no rules against a prim baby being or not being allowed beyond what the individual sim owner decides what is or is not best for their own land. Personally I think prim babies are akin to devil creatures and should be purged from the grid. However, the only rules really are that underage players are not allowed on adult sims. Thats pretty much it. Even child avatars (those who play children) are actually allowed on adult sims so long as they do not engage in or solicit anything of an adult nature while in that avatar. Its all there in the TOS / policies / rules / whatever you want to call them.
