  1. I'll just leave this here: https://www.youtube.com/embed/3ppiohVRZ0s?feature=oembed
  2. @Klytyna 2FA does not have to be used on phones or via SMS. A time-based PC-based token generator will not care what country you are in and would take a second for you to click to copy and then paste it into the relevant field in the browser. Not a big pain at all. Of course, if your post was performance art then I applaud you, very amusing ?
  3. I have suggestion. Have two versions of the AO in the box, one with the contest meter inside and one without. Clearly mark which is which and when people wear the AO of choice they will either be automatically participating or not. Notecard problem solved.
  4. Time-based tokens are just fine and most adhere to the same standard algorithm (RFC6238, Time-base OTP), so pretty much any software that says it generates tokens to that standard will do. The worst a third-party token generator can do send the token it generates for you to somewhere else at the same time. However that is useless unless another party also has your other credentials and makes an attack during the token lifetime window. Even then it only makes it about as secure as sending tokens through email. So, of course you should choose a well-known, reputable generator for your operating system if you can. You still have to protect your master key but that is (hopefully) generated by the vendor (such as LL) to be long enough and random enough to be impossible to guess . However, it is also much easier to protect than a password because you never have to enter it online.
  5. I always have it on as well. If you have the equipment that supports it well, it's a no-brainer really.
  6. Security is a continuum with secure, hard, annoying at one end and insecure, easy, convenient at the other. In my opinion, everyone should be allowed to choose where they want to be on the continuum as long as they are prepared to deal with the consequences.
  7. The problem I have encountered with SMS and email is that delivery is not guaranteed and even when it is delivered, may not arrive in a timely fashion. More than once I have been left waiting for the code to arrive and for whatever reason the code just does not turn up until a long time later. People don't realize that these methods can take a long time to deliver and may not show up at all sometimes. So without even going into the lack of security around these things, I would not like SMS or email based tokens. I find the best way of obtaining tokens is the Google Authenticator (GA) way using a time-based key which you setup with a master key shown as a QRcode or text on the web page where you are setting up the 2FA itself. You don't have to use GA or even a phone, there are other apps that are compatible and available for most operating systems. As long as you have the master key (which Google does its best to hide but can even then still be obtained), you can always setup an alternative to GA and the phone. You cannot possibly be locked out of your account if you have the password and a master key for generating 2FA tokens. You just have to protect this information, which I do with an offline encrypted password vault. This has proven to be always available when I needed it and unfailing reliable for a good number of years.
  8. You probably haven't, I didn't stay on the LL forums after they changed the first time. It was only when they switched to this new type I came back to post for a while again. I go through long periods of occasionally dropping in to read and type the odd post but this week I have been much more active than usual. It is nice to be remembered with a smile
  9. I don't know the answer to that one but agree it is a good question. I have been away from the forums for a long time and have only recently started posting again. You can probably see that from my post count. However I can guarantee you that had I been around for a simillar topic in the past, I would have been agreeing with calls for transparency then too. ?
  10. I agree and this is pretty much what I said in my own way with the added explanation of why I might some people might think LL donated the premium upgrades. I don't see anyone giving anyone hell or making waves. I just see people asking questions, seeking clarification and discussing the topic. Well OK, I see disagreements between some people too but that happens in pretty much all topics. I think the issue is more about transparency than the favouritism itself. At least it is for me.
  11. BB can easily pay someone a L$ award directly, however only LL can upgrade someone elses account to premium or add an extra year of premium for them. That instantly puts the promotion in the area of getting help from LL. So it isn't much of a stretch to think that LL could also be supplying the upgrades as well. Of course for all I know, BB could have just paid those people USD 72 and said buy an upgrade (or don't, whatever...) but the wording on the promotion was definitely that premium upgrades were being awarded. This might lead one to believe that LL has to be on-board with the promotion to a degree.
  12. If LL decide that playing favourites is good for the platform then I don't really care or mind. I would prefer it to be transparent though. If I am looking at a sponsorship or an advert, I want to know that is what it is and have LL come right out and say that they are sponsoring something or they are advertising for that business (paid or not). LL are open about their Relay For Life endorsement for example. Now I don't know for sure that sponsorship or advertising is occurring with either of the two things mentioned. It could be unfortunate wording and choices but it sure looks odd to say the least. I also would welcome a statement from LL about things being discussed in this thread. I think it is a great thing that individual Lindens are engaged in the platform and we cannot expect them to understand our issues without that. However I do think that there are activities that are appropriate on their official Linden account and activities they should engage in on a non-Linden account, especially if they are not official business and personal stuff. Again, I am not saying anything inappropriate is happening but I do think that there should be a separation of concerns.
  13. I live on the mainland, and have always loved it. Where others see problems, I see interesting areas to explore, many areas of beauty and a fantastic cornucopia of chaotic builds. I love being able to drive, sail or fly vehicles over vast areas. The contiguousness of it adds to its charm. Is it perfect? no but then nothing ever is. I do agree with the sentiments to perhaps change some of the ghastly rock textures on empty sims or turn them into openspace-style water sims for example. I don't expect detractors to get this, nor do I care - let them look after their own needs. It is enough that this is what I get out of mainland and that LL continue to offer this option. My needs do not stretch as far as needing to sink ungodly amounts of money for a private island each month. I just want a modest plot of land (or two) from LL with a reasonable allowance for rezzing my stuff and to do what I want with it (within the TOS) and I don't want a Linden home. Fact is that without mainland, I would not have have any land in SL at all and probably not be as invested as I have been for so long. For me, the middlemen that are SL land-barons don't add any value when I can go straight to LL for my land.
  14. The bodies have several layers to them (referred to as onion skins) and there is a call to get rid of these to reduce complexity. If that happens then existing appliers for a body that has a on/off switch for BoM would still not work properly due to the missing layers. Of course that could be catered for if there was a converter that could be worn to make appliers work with the BoM layers instead but that doesn't look likely either because it has been said that BoM isn't going to have script support initially at least. So this seems to leave three possibilities for full backwards compatibility (for bodies at least): 1. The bodies keep their onion skins and are compatible with appliers and BoM via a BoM on/off switch. 2. The vendor has to ship both BoM and layered versions of the body in the same pack to cater to both types of people. This option will likely end up with badly fitting mesh eventually as clothing vendors make their clothes more snug to the (onion skin-less) BoM body which will cause clothes to poke in the onion skin versions. 3. People keep their existing bodies and use them for appliers and use the newer BoM version for the system layers. Also see #2 for possible breakage. LL have taken great care in the past not to break compatibility where possible and so I am somewhat hopeful that existing appliers on existing bodies will still work. For my part, if there is no ability for BoM and appliers to sit side-by-side on an update of the same body or if I cannot buy new appliers or mesh that fits after a while then I will simply stop buying new content and use the existing content I have with the current body I have. Worst case scenario, I can become a cube avatar ?
  15. Some of us were here before the spampire concept, some of us still remain and maybe, just perhaps we will outlive the spampires as well. Softly, softly we go into the night, With silent tread and deadly bite. Fearing nothing, we hold sway, Until the coming of the day. To play and fight in pale moonlight, Without a care is a sheer delight. Wandering far though not by car, Returning home by shining star. Laying down far under ground, Expecting never to be found. Laying down with sleepy head, On cold stone just like the dead. -- Gabriele
  16. I have done the same thing a number of times, the longest was for a few years. I think it is healthy to take breaks just because you can get jaded from it after a while. Mostly I come and go a fair bit and sometimes for weeks at a time. In fact I am like that inworld and on the forums, a bit of a drifter at times. I see this as reasonably normal though, real life should come first after all and sometimes it demands all of my spare time. I still very much enjoy my inworld experiences and have been enjoying the new forums as well.
  17. They may have set their AFK/Busy message to look like the message you get when they are offline too.
  18. I totally agree, I mean it can possibly only take minutes to create the classic versions and pop them in the box. If it were me, I would be as inclusive as possible where it didn't place a great burden to do so.
  19. I have to say, I am loving seeing all the peeps pictures *hugs thread*
  20. After about 6 years of living in the shadow of the massive quakes that hit us here in NZ, I can honestly say that I am over china. The main takeaway I learned was always use what you love as often as you can because tomorrow it can all be gone in an instant. Of course, when I say gone, I mean still there...on the floor, everywhere in billions of tiny pieces. *sighs*
  21. Hi Zena, Welcome back! A big wave to Aeble too! and...A welcome to Zennessa too, I saw those eyes peeking in ?
  22. That is very good colour matching and I think it probably it comes down to each individual's tolerance for these things. When I had to use colour matching for my popular brand original skin with the Slink feet at the beginning, even though I used the recommend setting for colour matching, I was not happy with the visible join so it can be very variable.
  23. Many skin makers have already dropped providing new skins for classic avatars. At best they have their old classic skins in a back room. This is based shopping around on when I went to a mesh body and then again to a mesh head. The skins I took demos for or eventually bought only came with mesh appliers.
