  1. To get started with rigged mesh clothing, this is excellent: It explains how to import SL avatar mesh to Blender and how to rig mesh clothes.

There are legitimate uses of unicode characters -- for the native languages of about 90% of the planet, just for example. Right, that was not the question, I knew what the question was. I'm also aware that there are right uses for Unicode characters as the original ASCII character set is very limited. As the OP didn't use Unicode characters for "legitimate" use, but used them to "decorate" normal text I just wanted to make a joking reply. Sorry for being the little devil :matte-motes-evil-invert: :smileysurprised: :smileyembarrassed:

It's just very annoying and looks "noobish". :smileylol: Happy new year! :smileyhappy:
  4. LoveAngeL Lyre wrote: Hello Andromeda. If you try the last version of Viewer 3 (3.2.4), there is a known bug with screen resolution. You can't set it lower than 1034*740 pixels. You can roll back to 3.2.1 or download the beta 3.2.5. According to specification the native resolution of 13.3 inch MacBook Pro is 1280 x 800. So with this native resolution there should be no problem. On the other hand I wonder how one can manage to enjoy SL in such a small screen! :smileysurprised:

Keep going on learning, don't give up. There is a reward after the initial shock of 3D design. :matte-motes-smile: I have many years background as an industrial designer. We use parametric NURBS based 3D program to design things. I'm very fluent in it by now, it's like a second nature to use it. I got interested in mesh when it was implemented in Second Life. I learned that one needs to use polygonal modeller to create models for SL. First times when I opened Blender I was completely lost. How can one design anything with this thing? Shock and horror! Make things with polygons, cubes, surfaces, vertices, lines, and what not... :smileysurprised: I opened the program many times and just stared at it without understanding much of it. Finally I started to look at some excellent videos what the net is full of. Gradually polygon modelling world started look "not so terribly unfamiliar world" after all. :smileyhappy:
  6. In the avatar mesh there is actually no nipple at all. There is very low poly crude areola though. The areola is the cone shaped feature made with few triangles. There is no nipple as can be seen from the picture (front view and side view). With texturing and proper shading it is possible to fool the eye by painting nipple like feature on the areola. The very faint circle sometimes seen on some clothes is most likely the outer edges of the areola.

The mysterious symbol ǂ is explained here: http://jira.phoenixviewer.com/browse/FIRE-3060 [Quote, *quoted exactly as in the bove JIRA with one typo uncorrected*] :smileytongue: That icon depicts avatars that are at a height over 1020m and do not have a viewer object representation, usually meaning the are out of draw distance. You can also notice this if you read the hovertip when you move a mouse over somebody in the minimap. If other avatars are below 1020m or above 1020m and have actually been seen by the viewer, the dot or up and down arrow symbols are shown. [unquote] • dot means the avatar is on the same level as you are ^ up arrow means the avatar is higher than you are v down arrow means the avatar is lower than you are ǂ symbol meaning is as explained above (underlined text)
  8. Viewer: Firestorm 3.2.2 (24336) CPU: Intel® Core i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz (3411.18 MHz) Memory: 8169 MB OS Version: Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit Service Pack 1 (Build 7601) Graphics Card Vendor: NVIDIA Corporation Graphics Card: GeForce GTX 560 Ti/PCI/SSE2 Windows Graphics Driver Version: 8.17.0012.8562 OpenGL Version: 4.2.0 Graphics setting in viewer: Ultra Antialiasing: 2x Draw distance: 200 m Frame rates depend a lot where I am and what I'm looking at. Generally fps is very good, around 30 to 50 even in dense areas. With shadows on I get around 15 - 30 fps; again depending a lot what I'm looking at. Once I was in sim where I had very variable fps. When I looked out to the sea, only few things in sight on the shore and the sea with some scripted waves, I got insanely high framerate of 120 fps. I turned around 180 degrees and looked there, where there was a big stone textured building with lots of sculpties. The scenery had lots of trees, bushes and grass. The framerate dropped to a mere 5 fps. :smileysurprised: Then again looking back towards the sea framerate jumped immediately to 120 fps. I turned many times around, and it was always the same. Looking towards the building, the framerate went down to a slideshow and looking towards the sea it went high again. Never seen this dramatic change in looking different directions, standing in the same spot. Something must have been badly designed in the building and/or the scenery there. PS Linden Lab latest beta viewer gives very similar results as Firestorm does. Phoenix mesh enabled viewer gives very similar results. What I noticed is that in Firestorm and in Linden Lab viewer shadows are better than in Phoenix.

It seems that Firestorm is hardware dependent. In some systems it runs great, in some not. In my system I cannot see any difference between Firestorm and Linden Lab latest beta viewer. Both run great with Ultra graphics settings. Shadows work also well in both. Frame rates are good in both and graphics quality is good. Water, sky and clouds look good and very similar in both. 13. If you want full mesh avatar it might be wortwhile to contact Loki Eliot to see if he would be interested. See this this link about what he's done: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Mesh/example-of-mimicking-a-Cell-Shading-effect-using-Mesh/m-p/1238767

I cannot see much difference between this and the latest Linden Lab beta in regard to performance. Good frame rates in both. Shadows work well in both. Note on Firestorm: I can see lovely rippling water, and I can see the clouds too. It looks like there are still issues with some hardware as people are reporting problems.
  15. I prefer prim clothes. I'm very interested in mesh clothes too (after the mesh deformer has been implemented). I seldom wear clothing which is totally made of systems clothes. Mixed system / prim clothing is ok and can look really great. Oh, by the way, I never wear any outfit which has the system skirt. System skirt is plain horrible. One other "hate" thing what I never wear is miniskirt made of glitch pants plus the something in between the legs prim/sculpty. :matte-motes-agape: Luckily mesh will solve this problem as it will be great for miniskirts. :smileyhappy:
  16. Georg Stonewall wrote: I am not so sure anymore if customers really want a choice. We were selling only mod/trans outfits for more then 3 years. Personally I prefer mod/copy, no trans clothes. If the clothes in the store are no mod, I walk away. Mod is a must for prim clothing. Resize scripts cannot do all the adjusting needed. Transfer permission is not good. Often the clothes need adjusting. With copy permission you can make a copy and start adjusting it. With transfer persmission you have to adjust the original. If you make a mistake in adjusting then you're stuck with ruined clothing. When I buy clothes I buy them for me. I don't buy them in the purpose that some day I might transfer them to somebody else.

  18. Drongle McMahon wrote: On the plus side, Runitai's Mesh HQ 3 is back, complete with demo stuff. It was missing for ages. "Interesting" move from the Lab. On the minus side: Now non-premium members cannot go there to see Runitai's demo stuff. Nor can they anymore attend to Mesh Usergroup meetings which are held in one MeshHQ. This baffles me a bit. Aditi is never crowded, it lacks griefers too. Was this really necessary? Or is it so that only premium members can produce quality mesh? Or what is this? Is non-premium members' creations less valuable than premium members stuff? Well, anyway as all Aditi is mesh enabled naturally non-premium members can go to other sandboxes in Aditi. But yet, they are cut off from the Mesh Usergroup meetings and Runitai's demo stuff and also from the inspiration they might get from the work of others.
  19. It has been noticed that Mesh sandboxes in Aditi have been turned to be accessible only to premium members. So this means that non-premium members cannot attend the Mesh Usergroup meetings anymore. :smileysad:

It is badly created Firestorm bridge. Sometimes due to lag or some other issues the bridge is not created properly and it will show as in OP's picture. When it's properly created it will be very small and invisible. In Firestorm there is an easy fix for this. From the menu: Avatar, Avatar Health, Recreate LSL Bridge After that everything will be ok.
  22. Simerion wrote: Hmmm....a bug about height? So then how would I determine if my skin is in fact perfectly proportioned or needs adjustment? Just refer to the detailed post that uses counting heads as measurement, or is there some other reference note I should also look at? The uncorrect avatar height is in the Linden Lab viewer. It reports the avatar bounding box height, instead of the correct avatar prim height. The bounding box is shorter than the avatar body is. Avatar prim height is the avatar height from the bottom of soles to the top of the head. Firestorm and Phoenix viewers give pretty close the correct avatar prim height. There are lots material about avatar height and proper body proportions. If you are interested to dig into this further, here are some links: http://community.secondlife.com/t5/Your-Avatar/A-Matter-of-Proportion-A-Guide-to-Shape-Making-and-the/td-p/1027693 http://www.sluniverse.com/php/vb/tutorials/54131-creating-well-proportioned-shape.html#post1276966 http://pennycow.blogspot.com/2011/08/matter-of-proportion.html http://pennycow.blogspot.com/2011/07/matter-of-scale.html http://pennycow.blogspot.com/2011/07/matter-of-perspective.html
  23. Simerion wrote: on th subject of sliders...I always thought I was short, because my friends are taller than me and I don't look tall in comparison to furniture etc. I discovered yesterday that SL has me pegged at more than 6 feet tall. Is everyone in SL tall? No, everone in SL is not tall. For example I'm under 6 feet. One can see lots of realistically sized avatars too. It just depends on the place. Some places are filled with giants, some places have good number of petite realistically sized avatars. It's some kind of misconception with many people that being as tall as possible (and as muscular as possible for many guys) would be cool. :smileytongue: Well, this statement was a simplification, there are many reasons why there are lots of oversized avies. One is that for some mysterious reason in the begining Linden Lab decided to make the default avatar too tall. Then there is the default camera location "looking world from the top of the tree", giving totally wrong perspective; it makes people to think that their avatar is smaller than it actually is. Then there is the bug in the avatar appearance which reports wrong height for the avatar (if remember right, this isn't corrected even yet in Linden Lab viewer). So most people do not even know the real height of their avatar. Luckily the trend seems to be that more and more realistically sized avatars are being seen in the grid. :smileyhappy:
  24. Type in your map Mesh. It will list ten regions beginning with Mesh: seven mesh sandboxes and three mesh headquarters.. It appears that the whole Aditi is now mesh enabled. I tried in many places besides those and in all of them I was able to wear mesh clothes. [EDIT 2011-11-23] Today I noticed that all Mesh sandboxes in Aditi grid are available only for premium members. So non-premium members cannot go to those regions. However there are other sandboxes in Aditi where everybody can go. As all Aditi is mesh enabled, where ever one can build, one can naturally test mesh items too. In Aditi, type in your map Sandbox and it will list all.
