I said this, and I was right, Internet Cenorship aka SOPA will not just be about Blocking Internet Piracy, but it is about Blocking Privacy of other people who wish to use proxies such as HMA,TOR, and many other services to hide their identity from being exposed to malicious people as well. I said this just as a Guess that this would happen, and now it has.

So even you griefers in Second Life, or any other service now have a common enemy, and lets come together and take out SOPA...

Dear *CENSORED*,

On Tuesday, January 24th, congress is likely to pass a new bill called 'SOPA' (the Stop Online Piracy Act) that will allow the US government to block Americans from visiting certain websites. Similar to 'The Great Firewall of China' and countries such as Iran and Syria, SOPA will allow the government the ability to control and censor the internet by forcing internet service providers to firewall websites and IP addresses.

Unfortunately SOPA states that websites and services that enable people to bypass censorship will themselves be censored. Therefore if SOPA passes, online anonymity services such as HMA! will be at high risk of being banned in the US altogether.

Although the likes of Google, Facebook, Twitter, Yahoo, Mozilla, Wikipedia, and other influential companies are strongly opposing the bill, SOPA still has a lot of support and financial backing. Please take a moment out of your day to learn more about SOPA and help protect the future of your internet; here are some links and videos to get you started:

Kind regards, HMA! Team

P.S. if this bill does come into place, don't worry HMA! VPN will still work as normal.

America under the Obama administration is abandoning the ideals of freedom. Many of us feel he is following in the footsteps of Chavez in Venezuela. But, it is not just the Democrat Party that is for strong central government. SOPA was originated by a Republican. One cannot trust any of them.

Citizens and businesses are rebelling around the world. They are in many ways able to do that because there is no, or wasn't, any censorship on the Internet. Anonymity allowed people to start rebellions and to discuss political differences and ideas. Dictators lost control because the Internet was kept free and generally controlled by an America non-partisan and non-political ICANN. That is not changing as American politicians and the UN attempt to control and exert political and partisan control over the Internet.

There is no doubt that a free Internet that allow anonymity has its problems. But, the benefits have been more freedom for individuals. It has give the 99% the opportunity to take power from the 1%. And take a close look at who is in the 1%. Dictators, monarchs, and politicians make up a large part of the 1%.

Losing the free Internet and allowing it to be controlled by politicians and bureaucrats will be a disaster.

If you are concerned about these issues, visit http://www.contactingthecongress.org/ find your representative and call them if you are a US citizen. If you are not a US citizen, email them. Emails from foreign nationals have an affect.

Understand this is not just a national issue in the USA. Giving control of the Internet to politicians will affect the planet. The US administration has not helped Iranian citizens when they started to rebel. They are not protecting freedom. Politicians from both parties are hurt by the internet and they are working to control that problem.

Resist. Be politically active.

No, it's not just the Democrats, it's all of them.  And it's not just under Obama.   This downhill slide started long ago, but became a run away train under Theodore Roosevelt.   That's when we started the transition from a country that honored Individual Freedom, Liberty and the Rights of Man to one that espoused the Rights of Men and the Common Good.

It's been a long slide, but with each step away from a Federalist Republic to a large Centralized government, we've moved closer and closer to the Socialist dream of the progressives.  Now we are on the precipice and the power mongers in Washington, on both sides, are intent on pushing us over. This is just one more nail for the coffin.

Without individual rights, there is no common good, nor Freedom or Liberty.

“Government big enough to supply everything you need is big enough to take everything you have. The course of history shows us that as a government grows, liberty decreases.”
~Thomas Jefferson

Jeeze USA becoming like China or former USSR....personal freedoms eroding.

I guess it will happen here in Europe too at some point.

SOPA is -nothing- compared to another bill currently getting a lot less attention that will allow 'national security threats' to be detained without trial under military jurisdiction rather than criminal - and enable the US military to engage in domestic policing. Something the US has not seen since 1776...

I think that bill about national security treats has passed, or did in at  least the House or Senate.  And someone else said it, it is not anyone party making these laws...it is both.

We have become a nation where individual responsibility is no more. Something doesn't go our way, we blame someone else and slap a law suit on them.   We want to be taken care of so nothing bad happens to us so we give up our rights to the government and say take care of us...then we have the audacity to scream and shout when the government makes laws to take care of us.  We have become a nation filled with people thinking they are "owed" for simply being alive. You owe me a job, you owe me an education, you owe me healthcare, you owe me this or that!  Whatever happened to EARNING what a person has? Whatever happened to taking responsibility for our actions rather than blaming someone else?

These bills the Congress are passing will make what is being done in other countries impossible to do. "Occupies" will become crimes.  People will be held as security threats. You will have no privacy because "you asked us to take care of you and we are doing that"  All this may not happen right away, but it will be slow erosure so say 10 or 20 years from now folks will look back and say how the hell did this happen.

Very interesting that apparently Comcast, who supports SOPA, uses the very technology that SOPA would ban in order to run their service.

I am not an expert so i do personally take this particular article with a grain of salt.

The US government is a travesty.  A bunch of traitors, like many other governments around the world.

It has nothing to do with any ordinary political group, like "socializing liberal progressives" (for goodness sake).  It has everything to do with the fact that the US government is entirely alienated from the will and service of its people.  It's not about coddling people and making laws to protect them at all.  It's purile nonsense to suggest that this is about protecting anything but centralized power.
