Profiles have some form of keyword rating. If you search for someone who you know has an X rated profile from the words then they should only be visible when you have adult content enabled for searches. Whilst not ideal it is at least something.

Its a public profile visible to anyone anywhere, not just inside SL.

This is what mine shows on the web if you're not logged in...You can set who sees it in settings.  Everyone, Friends or SL.

LOL, actually, if you touch my ears, you get a notecard that does exactly that 😂

I love this idea, hadn't come across that before. Keeps the profile fairly clean, but still gives people who are curious a chance to learn more.

...and no one gets accidentally traumatized :D

As some have already mentioned picks are advertising tools. If you've been in SL long enough you might even remember when some merchants offered  rewards to people who listed the business in their picks. So, thinking it odd for people to read picks of "strangers" in SL doesn't make much sense, IMO.

As for me personally, I used to put "reading profiles" as one of my talents. We don't have that page in our profiles anymore though. I have run across some real eye openers through the years. I don't think I ever really paid attention to the fact that having adult content was against the TOS until very recently. There have been some that I might have ARd had I been aware.

I see that people only see what they want to see and didn't read the whole thing.

I said

"I don't know why people go snooping if someone has "warning, adult content" in their profile."

If they have that in their profile and you don't want to see the adult stuff, don't go to see the adult stuff. This is what I am saying.

They should honestly make it so that you can set your profile to adult, and have a confirmation to click through if going to an adult profile. Or you can opt out of seeing adult profiles like how you do with sims you search for. There's so much adult focused stuff on SL that this kind of ruling feels kind of outdated honestly.

I agree, this is a good idea. I said something along this line.

People can tell me "no one wants to see adult content all the time" or "You don't have to show your sexual size 24/7"

but the truth is is that it is the most popular thing to do. You can be against it all you want but it's in groups, it's in profiles, picks, sim photos, everywhere. You go into a sim on an adult sim, you're going to see photos of a sexual nature. Rather it's softcore or hardcore. You can be upset if you want to but the proof is all around.

If they go in and tell people "stop being adult" it's going to hurt several, rest assured.

You can hate porn all you want, you can dislike someone's profile as much as you want but you cannot hide the fact that adult content is the most prevailing everywhere.

~ People  already try to force people to look like what they want them to look like,  talk like what they want them to talk like, tell people what they can and can't do, what height to be, their gender, if everything gets too strict and too forced it's going to turn people down and turn people away. You can't have everything your way, people want to have some form of freedom, including the profile they make.

So I agree, this is a good opinion and should be implemented.

I've seen a few people complaining about "No one wants to meet people, people are bored, no one want to go meet people." Look at what's happening, why would you want to meet someone who wants to come into their space and change everything about them?

I don't know why people go snooping inside of picks, especially when I see several people put "Warning, adult content." in their profile. You'd have to be actively looking most of the time.

Several people might have that warning but the vast majority do not.

Makes me wonder how that affects the adult continent Zindra. Is it wrong for them to have adult profiles in the appropriate zone? Despite what the ToS says and how LL made that place for such like-minded people it leads to a conflict. Being that profiles are a place of information they really should make it toggable like you guys said. Imagine you have a guy who stays on Zindra but has his profile with adult content and some person sees that in search who is from another continent and gets offended. They report the guy and he gets reprimanded for it. This would stop some confusion and problems.

I know many people in SL strictly only use the adult side of it and so they tailor their profile accordingly to it. Some of them don't even realize the mainland exists and might be surprised by a sudden suspension for their profile's content.

Exactly, people already get offended by everything else! Should be able to have something.

It's a case of the information being kind of all over the place and not very detailed, at that.

From the Knowledge Base:

And the Wiki:

We can't really answer that. The Lab would have to elaborate.

If I reported every non-General image that I stumble across while browsing profiles (a hobby of mine) I'd spend half my SL time submitting ARs. And that doesn't include the very Adult text in some profiles. Even my Irish gran would blush.

The group profiles are worse though, there's some seriously Adult images in so many group descriptions. I actually report the most egregious ones.

Yes, because it's the biggest group, the lion's share of second life.

You know it, I know, everyone else should know it.

I wasn't talking about hardcore porn imagines in general, which obviously are against the ToS as pointed out above and shouldn't be there, I was talking about the illegal images I've run across and do report.

Yes and its just as worse for some of us who use both continents. I know for myself I'm having to keep the balance of PG and adult. So I have very basic information in my profile in regards to that such as gender, orientation and so on. If this were a feature then once the pop up hits  'Adult content, proceed?" then they would know what they're getting into ahead of time saving us trouble. Some people might say "Why not make a ALT?" for this purpose and some of us don't want that, we think its unnecessary and we want to keep it centralized and more true to ourselves in this way.

When I'm looking at the ToS, I start to think about things. Its a obvious fix and yet for some reason they choose to go through the difficult route for some reason. They already have it possible in search so this shouldn't be a problem for profiles.

That way if somebody wants the adult content and a little more than PG they have that option to do so. Otherwise, they could talk to us and ask us about PG related topics in local or IM. I think this is a perfect solution.

Yep and the thing is is that people are getting too comfortable.... with telling other people what to do.

How they should look, how they should dress, what aesthetic they should and shouldn't wear,

What avatars they should or should not use, what hairstyles they can and can't wear.

How tall they can or cannot be, how skinny someone can be.

If people keep trying to dictate what every adult can and cannot do, it'll chase off people from the platform. Continuous dictation of how one express themselves and how they want to interact, especially when they keep it all in the adult community, or Mature community, It's just going to drive people away and people already complain about "No one wants to get to know people anyone." "No one wants to come to sims and hang out, no one is trying to meet new people" Of course they don't.

You're out here telling them what to do every time they come around and if they are not to your liking you ban them. Now too many People come online and stand around in a circle because they CAN be sexy to someone, they can see sexy creative avatars but they don't want to talk to anyone. Then you have people who just say "f it, I'll just stay home and take photos" because they feel like they have nowhere else to go.

Cliques are the safest thing you can join because at least those people accept you for you.

You can be anything, a bimbo, himbo, anime character, Asian, business man, a furry, a green woman, a giant, a dwarf and people will chase you off and tell you it's not realistic then tell you "Second life is not real."

This just adds another thing to that large list of things that people are doing to tick people off and drive them away further, going after their profiles now. Just recently someone argued that women shouldn't be able to wear ponytails or pigtails.

Allow people to have something that make them feel like they belong, even if it's just their profile.

You're way better than I am. I don't report anything. Feels like a waste of time when some of the most horrific (and likely illegal in some places, yes) content in profiles and groups just sits there for ages. I don't really expect a whole lot of action on that, but that's just me. Seeing that usually just prompts a "welp, that's enough SL for one month" from me and off I go to another platform where I'm not subjected to such things. I actually stopped reading unfamiliar profiles and group descriptions a few years ago as a result of some of the garbage in there.

Exactly and at some point it starts to ruin what makes Second Life that Second Life. The beauty of how anything is possible in what is essentially an extension of our own real lives. As someone who has a interest in furry and otherwise non-human avatars this is a big concern as many places do not want us there. I especially feel bad for the anime community out there. They've made alot of cool and might I say hot avatars but because of their aesthetics some may say they're a child av when they really aren't and alot of these people get hurt over it just because of the unique style that anime possesses. I know I have a anime-esq av I use at times and I still get self-conscious even with her bust over this. Its also ironic in this way that even with them they have a divide over it, by not letting them which are obviously much more human looking into human sims. Its weird, same deal with elves. For some reason they have scrutiny eventhough they're humans with pointy ears.

I registered back in 2006 and I don't remember it being nearly as bad as this. SL had alot of beauty and charm to it and it still does just theres this conflict growing about.

Surprisingly yeah. I've had some experience with it.  I looked through the search listings sometime ago and discovered in their descriptions they had elves barred from some locations. When you get down to it it really is like the thought process of the Imperium of Man in Warhammer 40,000. A pro-human government.

One only has one chance to make a first impression.

That's why they go as far as they can right off the bat.

I've seen stuff in profiles that I've never even seen inworld. It can get pretty extreme.

I can see a large percentage of the populace being upset that not everyone considers SL a sex game, but at least there are some allowances made for them. They can go places where sex is allowed and encouraged. Which is more than most online platforms would give them. I can understand posting A-rated pics in a profile if one is after only the A-rated experiences. I don't even bother reporting it, I'm so used to it. And besides, even some of my friends are escorts. It's a thing.

But still, considering the fact that SL is trying to have more to it than just naked avatars bumping pixels, and a huge portion of the userbase isn't (at least exclusively, or even mostly) in it for the sexy time, I feel it's only fair that everyone make some allowances for the sake of the community as a whole. Let the G-rated regions stay G-rated, and just be glad you have something besides the OMFGrid or whatever to play on, I say.

At least you don't have to worry about renegade children showing up on adult land anymore. Take what you can get, and learn to compromise, people!

If they have that in their profile and you don't want to see the adult stuff, don't go to see the adult stuff. This is what I am saying.

The ones I have seen and referred to did not have any such warning. In the case where such a warning is displayed I close the profile, unfortunately, those warnings are quite rare. Let me be clear though, I do enjoy some adult content; however, violent content is an absolute NO for me.

A lot of sims that might be thrown into one's picks come with NSFW content from the get-go,

But any pick can be rewritten, So if you want to advertise your favorite strip club, and the pick you get when clicking is a bit too adult, you can write a g-rated version that just hints at what is going on rather than blatantly advertising it.

It is against TOS to have content in your profile which is not fit for a G sim.

However, this is probably the most flauted rule in all of SL and even if it was reported I doubt anything would ever be done. It's pretty easy to judge what sort of profile someone is going to have within the first few seconds of opening it. I just close it if there is anything adult.

So yeah, profiles don't really bother me. If what you're doing isn't going to threaten my existence in SL then we're cool, if, hoever, it is, then we will very suddenly not be cool at all.

One thing I would advise though - be careful about places that ask to show your profile picture if your profile picture is particularly adult and the place that is asking is on G sim.

Very valid. Until we get this feature I've always had my profile pic to be G rated. I'm part of multiple groups adult and G rated and the thought of it appearing in a G rated group is awkward.

We could always have the option to blurr the profile pic until you're viewing the profile itself for those who want saucy profile pics.
