2024 - Will LL finally fully acknowledge the Adult side of SL?

No but it is capable of presenting your inventory in an external graphical interface which is significantly easier for finding and dressing oneself through. I'm always blown away with items I forgot I had when I open Caspers Redelivery webpage and I see pictures of all the items I have. With the Wardrobe app, I can then click the pictures and through the RLV, wear or remove those items. Much easier then having to use a textual listing.

its also easy to have an html document of pictures of your outfits on your computer.

I think you are reading too much into it. RLV was used as the general understood term and not a specific implementation.

Besides, isn't Marine Kelly the original creator of RLV, so one would assume she implements the reference version?

Another thing is how much functionality do you need if you are going to sit locked down in one spot gagged out (no sound and speech) staring at a black screen? 🤣

Something like that.

I'd love to hear how and can they then be added and removed from there?

Here is a sample page i made up using the same outfit over and over. If it was a real one, each link would be different. The first image is the html code, second image is what the html displays in your web browser, third image is the full size image of the thumbnail when you click on it.

You open your web browser, decide what you want to wear, then type the rlv command for the outfit.

in my case I'd type "bj wear dressblue" and whatever I was wearing would be replaced with that outfit.

It's Kind of hard to set up, but easy to add to it once it is.

In fact, there are three implementations...

In order of appearance: Marine's, mine (*) which is very close to Marine's,  and Kitty's RLVa.

(*) The Cool VL Viewer (or rather Cool SL Viewer as it was named back at that time), was the first TPV to implement RLV after Marine's; it was back in November 2007, and my fork started as v1.00a (a fork from Marine's RLV API v1.00) in the Cool SL Viewer v1.18.4.3. The fork diverged over time in the underlying code/implementation, but still implements/obeys Marine's API (with some additions of mine).

All the TPVs that use RLV have pretty much adapted it to their users wants/needs.

And I am sorry I had forgotten Cool was the first TPV to implement it. I didn't start using Cool until Emerald blew up. Then some things happened (through no fault of your own) and I ended up using Phoenix until FS was released.

I do still use Cool as a backup though. 😊

+1 for using RLV for non-sexual purposes. I can't remember the last time I used it for anything kink-related, but I use it daily for my wardrobe, and I know people in the family community use it to hold hands with their family or carry their kids around.

When it was first introduced, RLV was called restrained LIFE viewer, but LL put a stop to that. Not sure if it was over copyright, or terror at the possibility people might think LL was involved in some way with creating rlv.

As for adding rlv to the LL viewer, it will never happen. Adding it to the LL viewer suggests thst LL endorses it.

However if they did add it, there would be no forced option and they would bury it 10 layers deep so that it would be impossible to find if you didnt know where to look, and you would have to reactivate it every time you logged in, just in case multiple members of a RL household used the same computer.

Oh and every 10 minutes you would have to give consent again.

😂

Both the Cool SL Viewer and Marine's Restrained Life viewer existed for many months already, when LL came up with a new rule forbidding to use ”SL”, ”Second” or ”Life” in any brand/product/software name in use for Second Life...

We had to get inventive then, even though the anteriority rule could have been opposed by us to LL, but we are adult, responsible people and not here to impair SL or LL (but on the contrary to contribute in a constructive way). 😜

LL even went after Cristiano for SL in SLUniverse. Yes, LL can and does get that petty.

Well they added the last name Lovelace which was an adult porn star in the 70's. Maybe they are becoming a bit more progressive when it comes to adult stuff. lol

Ah you must be referring to Linda Lovelace (stage name) of Deep Throat fame. 🤭

Might not be totally on topic, but relevant to this, and Henri's viewer, and I don't know where else to say it: all I did was install CoolVL Viewer and use it once, and it fixed my SL voice issues permanently. I have spent literally years trying to get voice to work, just so I can hear my friends reading stories on story night, and installing his viewer fixed it, even for Firestorm. Huge props for that.

Also, I forgot until reading it here yesterday that the official LL viewer doesn't implement RLV, so thanks for that also, little thread. ^-^ I had totally spaced it. Now I know better than to send people my ground sit fix for shorties if I know they're on the LL viewer.

As for on-topic, I'm sure LL just doesn't want people to focus on the adult stuff to the exclusion of everything else, or think it's all just a bunch of adult stuff without stopping to find out otherwise.

For the record, despite my personal preferences for how I live my SL, I am all for people being able to have the life they want inworld. And even though it might bring a little more "skeeze" in the form of new people who think it's all just sex stuff, I don't really have a problem with LL being a little more open about that side of SL. It is a major draw, after all.

Just because not everyone is looking for that doesn't mean anyone (including LL) should be ashamed of it being a part of our world. Just don't do it on my front lawn (when I'm home), and we're all good.

so... its Valentines Day. has anyone heard of anything yet? I had thought the lab was going to do something for 2/14/2024 unless I totally missed the memo on that

They didn't post a specific date, they just said they would be acknowledging it on their Roadmap for 2024.
