This is a topic I thought up in response to another recent topic.

The short version: Someone asked for a "list", and of course I failed to provide a satisfying list.

I think the "Easy Answer" is:  Men Friends "do" exactly the same things Women Friends "do" in Second Life.

When I spent more time with Second Life friends, both males and females together (my Second Life "Family") - not in any "dating context", we would do many different things:

- Shop for homes, skins, etc.

- Stand at our birth place / main hangout talking for hours

- Explore Second Life - this covers a lot of different activities

- Build together and for each other

- Test gadgets, weapons with and on each other

- Support each other at Clubs (male friend tipping male friend who is dancing, etc.)

- Visit each other's homes

- Weigh in on each other's SL drama, give SL relationship advice, etc.

I personally never was into much RP with my male friends. Neither, was I personally into "combat".

So, as you can see from my "short" but "deep" list above, I've hit a mental block.  I did not include things that I "could" do but haven't done with friends or "Male Friends" such as gambling at the Social Casino, etc.

What kind of things do you know that "Men Friends" do together in Second Life?

I like to think they skip around the regions, arm in arm, painting each others muscles and bro scaping each others beards before settling in to a three course meal of steak....but then....im probably wrong.

Men friends go on motorbike rides together, or race giant snails, or play dress up dolly like the rest of the population of Second Life, or fight zombies, or ...

What do I know, I am after all just a mere woman.

The male friends I have had in Second Life have tended to be builders who shop for textures and work out scripts for things, or design motorbikes, and then in their Sleisure time they go to male friends' clubs and dance with the ladies.

We work on stuff, or find ourselves saying "This would be more fun in [other game]." then going and doing that instead.

SL combat just can't compete with Arma, driving can't compete with SnowRunner, functional builds can't compete with Space Engineers, etc.

1. Explore sims

2. Go to live music venues

3. Go to each other's houses

4. Do show and tell of various rare gatchas, pets, things they've bought

5. Discuss LL politics and SL gossip although not as much "SL relationships" of their own.

6. SL "car talk" e.g. how to make a door hinge or solve a texture problem.

7. RL "car talk" about how one's computer can be fixed or improved.

8. Discuss RL politics and RL gossip

I think "shop" is not among the things, although vary rarely I'll see two men helping each other shop.

I guess "live music" didn't stand out for you.

I think part of the problem with the original question is the underlying assumption that "men friends" and "women friends" like to do different things together, based on socialization: girls have dolls, boys have guns, etc.

Whereas, in Second Life there is a lot of commonality:

- Both men and women "shop" for avatars / accessories, etc.

- Both men and women get (choose, buy, build, Rez, etc.) houses and land

- Both men and women race, fly, sail..

- Both build, go to clubs, enjoy live music, "date", etc.

Honestly, I challenge the assertion that men in Second Life are more likely to do things "alone" vs. as part of a "group". Claptrap! Humbug!

And, I don't need to "defend" my challenge to these assumptions; the gender-based Second Life assumptions were never backed up by any evidence in the first place!

We hang out with our female friends, tbh. We might go shopping once in a blue moon, but in my experience more for things like vehicles, maybe the occasional piece of furniture if we really need a second opnion (which we rarely do) . And if we do, it's always planned way ahead.

We drive, go on rideouts etc. On very rare occassions we might actually stay up until the wee hours and talk about the "big things" in life. But not that often. I'm fortunate enough to have a couple of guys in SL where that might actually happen. It usually involves fluids of the intoxicating kind, though.

To be honest, SL would be boring as f... without women. :)

Men are solitary creatures. They don't hang around one another for the same reason stallions don't hang around one another.

That's some quasi "alpha male" BS right there... Don't be "that guy", it will lead nowhere... Been there, done that. Then I grew up.

Two mares in the herd aren't in direct competition with each other. They can both be impregnated by the same stallion. It even helps if they cooperate. They can watch out for, and provide care for each other's foals.

But two stallions? Different rules apply. There are few win-win scenarios. It's mostly winner take all. A herd only needs one stallion.
